Hi everyone. Check out the method we use to hang our jigsaw puzzles on the wall :)
Since we have a lot of large puzzles and we don't have too much space for storing big wooden boards, we were thinking about something that would allow us to quickly change our exposition and easily store unused images in their original boxes.
We used to buy 0.7mm magnetic foil with the force of attraction 30-36g/cm2 and magnetic induction 285-320Gs, but a high quality 0.4mm foil (force of attraction ~18g/cm2 and magnetic induction ~220Gs) also does the job :)
I recommend using a foam roller for painting the wall with magnetic paint. Number of needed layers depends on the quality of paint, but with the one we choose 2-3 layers are enough. Make sure to thoroughly mix the paint before use and then do it every once in a while during painting - it may take even few minutes to do it right because the metal filings tend to embed at the bottom of the bucket.

Great idea and I have not seen puzzles hung this way until I was led here from the "Puzzle 24 h challenge - we did it!" video. Glad they had a link there to this video on how their wall mounting was done. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think the puzzle would hang okay if you/we left a small (e.g., 1/2") gap with no magnetic sheet backing around the edge of each section of puzzle pieces. For reference, @4:02 you added skinny strips and I wonder if "not" adding the skinny strips would make any noticeable difference in how well the puzzle hangs on the wall. I suggest that you/we may be able to apply the magnetic sheets to each section making sure that no interconnections are covered and just do not bother cutting little strips to fill those gaps. If it works, it will save you/us a lot of time and work on all that trimming. A test could be done on any size puzzle mounted to the wall. If leaving the skinny strips off does have a significant effect on the ability of the section to hang on the wall, then, at that point, the strips could be added to fill the gaps. As an example of the validity of doing that, you left the section of wall painted with magnetic paint about 1/4" to 1/2" smaller than the puzzle all the way around and the puzzle still hangs fine, including those outside sections that have the magnetic gap. It looks like you and/or the people you are associated with do these magnetically wall mounted puzzles a lot, so I am looking forward to your feedback as to whether skipping the time and trouble of the fine-tuned trimming will keep the puzzle from hanging. I am looking forward to testing hanging my puzzles using the magnetic montage but won't be able to do so until at least January 2024 due to a customer project leaving me little free time. Thanks again for the great instruction video.

Hi, thank you very much for your comment :) The challenge you are referring to was organized by my husband at his place of work and he was also responsible for the montage, hence the same method was used :) Regarding those thin stripes - actually both the 60000-piece and the 48000-piece puzzles at the office were mounted without them, but the front side of each section had to be covered with glue to add more stiffness and avoid dents/recesses between adjacent parts (so the border pieces won't collapse when putting everything together on the wall). It was a lot quicker way to deal with such a big puzzles and another advantage of that solution was having a thin layer of protection against coffee spills or fingertips - quite important if you are exhibiting puzzles at the busy office. You can see how it looks from the back right in the beginning of my video with 'Grafika 48000 Travel Around the World' hanging on the wall. On the other hand - at home I'm not using glue because I don't have to worry about possible damage and I prefer to keep the more satin and less reflective look, so we are going the extra mile to have a better support and to keep the whole image flat :) Regarding the gap without paint at the edges - don't worry about that, if you have good and stiff foil you can easily leave 1 inch or more and you won't see any lift - it was done on purpose to allow small mistakes with alignment ;) Good luck with your attempt and please come back and let me know how it worked out for you once you are done🤞

I use painters tape and tape the back of the puzzle. Then use small pieces of alien tape to hang them.

Where did you purchase the magnetic sheets from?? I love this idea and would like to do the same with my Keith Herring 32,000 piece puzzle!

We've bought it in the local store specialised with magnetic articles so it's hard to advise where to look. Maybe hardware stores or a places with advertisement materials? That kind of foil is often used for making gadgets. Keep in mind that you may find a product with weak power of attraction so it's a good idea to buy a small batch and test it on a minor puzzle first. Good luck! :)

Zależy od wprawy, teraz idzie szybciej niż kiedyś ;) Jeśli ktoś zdecyduje się na pokrycie klejem frontu puzzli, co usztywni całą sekcję, to można pominąć ten krok z podklejeniem brzegów :)
