Great video I use the exact same water system. The only difference being is I’m in north east Pennsylvania and we freeze so I put a tank heater in the barrel and a fountain pump in line and took the other pipe to return into the top of the barrel, so that it recirculates warm water all the timeand keep water from freezing

I think it looks good, but I wondered how heavy that water barrel will be. The shear point on screws is much lower than with nails. I found that out the hard way, myself. To anyone building a water support that will hold a significant weight, nails are a better choice for heavy loads. I use screws for almost everything, but not load-bearing.

Those feeders are also good because the screens let tiny things (feed)fall threw and if you have something under it to catch it treats can be made for the bunnies if there is anyone there that likes to cook.They can add baby food in then like carrot baby food. For those of us that spoil our bunnies😊. Its a great thing for them and since it comes from there pellets its safe for them. 😊

If you want to try a different baby saver system, try plastic wall panels, cut to 3" strips, and attached to the cages with cheap Zip Ties. It will be a solid baby saver, white in color, and of a flexible plastic material. It will take away some visibility, but it will add some wind protection to the little babies if they happen to fall out of the nest.

8:07 I'm not a pro, just an amateur who likes building stuff. Looks a good enough job leveling the boards. You might consider either putting one or two nails into those horizontal boards, or perhaps adding another vertical board on the post just underneath those horizontal ones (with nails), that way the vertical board is holding the weight of the horizontal ones. Screws are meant mainly to prevent two pieces of wood spreading apart. Nails are meant to resist shear forces (sliding past each other). Depending on how many rabbits and how much equipment you have, you might be asking those couple screws to do more work than they are designed to do. Worst case scenario, that would end up with all your rabbits crashing to the ground. Keep an eye out to see if those start dropping lower over time. Also keep an eye out for the 3 new posts to see if they start leaning away from plumb. You might end up needing to add some diagonal bracing along the back of those posts (next to the metal siding). I wouldn't worry about the bracing though, unless you see them start moving.
@NicholsCounty
@NicholsCounty 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I used the screws so I can take them out easily while getting it leveled. But yeah I did use screws in the whole project. I haven't seen any issues yet with leaning or coming apart. I have 10 cages on there with 10 full size rabbits and maybe 18 kits at any given time. Thanks again.

Yes nice job . But I think it really is "the right way" if you are raising meat rabbits. Raising angoras for example, needs to have the cages hung separately for easy removal for cleaning the cage . There is always build up of fiber that needs removal and not easy to do with joined cages. So the bars through all the cages just does not work . But for hanging something like a log rod with hooks for each cage is an option I would use instead of chains . The other thing is they tend to jump round and move cages so hanging doesn't always work I found and have since found a better set up are pvc stands so the droppings still go through to the dirt ground and are easy to rake up. . The cages and stands are easily washed and moved. I use this system for summer but then have an indoor insulated rabbitry for our cold winter .

They should be okay if it's 16 guage wire or especially 14 guage, if you use 14 guage they will be absolutely great. The myth of wire hurting rabbits' feet comes from people using the wrong gauge, or letting hay accumulate on the floor and collect urine.

As far as your building, you did fine. The only thing is that even pressure treated lumber will rot after a while (about 10 yr life). Looks like you were trying to be quick and fast. The only to make the stuff in the ground last longer would be to put the 4X4's in cement but that takes longer (waiting for cement to dry). You did a great job awesome!

I don't get attached to animals. I don't handle my rabbits as much as a show breeder would. Don't get me wrong, I put hands on them everyday to check for any issues. But I don't play with them.
