That looks so fun . I so want a glider , being a pilot has been a life long dream . Gliders seem to be the least expensive way to get into flying .

take paramotor Air trike training not this , At least you will not end up in a wheel chair , Both have almost same training cost, may slightly high for Air trike( difference is less than $2000) but you're safe inside a metal frame and wheels take the impact in case of free fall but in hang glider you will break your ribs or both legs
@ericoschmitt
@ericoschmitt Жыл бұрын
@@ElonHusky Is this a bad joke? Plenty of bad and fatal accidents in paramotor and paratrikes. A wing with a rigid frame is by far much safer. A HG trike is much safer than paratrikes by a huge margin. And no engine is much safer than both. HG only has a bad name from the early days, modern gliders are pieces of art and very very safe. Stable in all 3 axis, easy to land, don't collapse. You come to a HG video to say that those death bags are better in any way? They are only better on the ground.

@@ericoschmitt paramotor wings are very safe, yes they can take collapses, some will recover fast and with no pilot input, but only if you fly in bad conditions or do something really stupid on purpose. is a hang glider more safe and harder to overpilot than a paramotor wing? can someone roll the hang glider upside down by mistake?
@ericoschmitt
@ericoschmitt 11 ай бұрын
@@Rickardo22li there are plenty of stupid pilots doing just what you described: flying paragliders in bad conditions, taking collapses, acting wrong, then getting hurt or dead. Sometimes happens on HG too but way less often. HG's won't turn upside down by mistake... lol. Not even on purpose unless you are really trying to loop it, which is almost impossible in beginner gliders. Beginner modern wings are ridiculously easy to fly tbh

So what is the string dangling off the “handle bar” I see in all the hang gliding videos? In flight, it is to the right of the pilot and streaming back, kinda parallel to the pilots body?
@donindri

@@danny-li6io More advanced wings have a variable geometry system. You pull on the rope for better speed and longer glide, loosen for less speed and better handling in rough air or landings.

The best kept secret within the best kept secret is that once you reach an intermediate level, you can stay up in the air for many hours by harnessing the power of thermals and ridge lift. My longest flight was here at lookout mountain 5.5 hours from a foot launch.

I'm not from that school, but could suggest you to search local or near your country school. On KZfaq you can learn only theory and I doubt that you'll find video all in one, but you can search books to buy which will prepare you at least on theoretical part.

Yes. I always do and most people do. Have not needed to deploy it (yet anyway) in 300 hours of flight time including aggressive turbulence, high wind flight, and mid day thermals. Paraglider pilots tend to need to deploy reserves far more frequently than hang glider pilots.

@@fredread9216 Fred, I took lessons at LMFP in 1980. I've been flying hang gliders ever since. I will be 68 in 2 weeks. Go and take a lesson. If you can run a bit you will be fine. Once you are flying the mountain launches you will not need to run very far. There is a great beginner glider called the Alpha that almost launches itself. Go for it.
