이번에는 저희가 좋아하는 "Eat Your Kimchi"라는 유투버들이랑 홍어 도전 했어요!!
이번에 Eat Your Kimchi랑 같이 하니까 특별한 이벤트나 도전해보고싶었는데, 친구의 추천으로 홍어 한마리 하는 홍어집으로 갔어요!! 근데 그 홍어집 가니까... 진짜 우리 상상도 못했던일이 나타났어요. 재미있게 보세요~ ^^
Eat Your Kimchi는 한국에서 사는 캐나다 부부인데, 외국인들을 위해서 한국에대해서 영상 만든데, 엄청 유명해요! ^^ 영상으로 볼때 웃긴데, 실제로 만나서 아주 재미있고 정말 착한 사람들이에요!

Today we did the Fermented Stingray Challenge with Simon and Martina from Eat Your Kimchi!!
We wanted to film something particularly interesting and challenging for this collaboration, and so we came to this Fermented Stingray specialty restaurant on my friend's recommendation. But we got a lot more than we bargained for...

I love how in both this and in the "Spiciest Beef Ribs of DEATH" Video Martina is the one seemingly unaffected. Its like most people I know would think, because she's a girl (and not that I agree), she shouldn't be able to handle spice or eat slimy creepy gross food.

와우 Even I have NOT eaten that! It's hard to eat because it's got smell as you said. In like this case, someone is gonna try it and then who is even korean normally wouldn't say 맛있다 (like delicious or yummy) after that. Just a few of us can enjoy to eat it. So you don't need to eat all! We can understand if you don't say 맛있다. 이때만 해도 잇유어 김치 인기가 많았는데 한국에 뒤통수 때리고 가면서 전세가 역전 되었죠 그냥 가면 되지 한국 사람이 싫어하는말 남기면서 아마 한국으로 복귀는 힘들듯... 본인들도 한국보다 일본이 좋다고 하고 한때는 좋아했는데 아쉽네요

I have so much respect for Josh for trying the food and saying he enjoyed it for the owners at the restaurant even if he really didn't. I understand that it is very difficult to eat something that you aren't familiar with, and even a lot of Koreans can't bring themselves to eat the fish either, but honestly if you know that you aren't the kind of person to not enjoy exotic food with strong smell and flavour, don't push yourself to eat it, cuz no one is forcing it down your throat. Even though people probably expect that foreigners would not be able to handle the food that well, it still offends them a little to see people spit it out and throw up. If you don't like the food, that's fine, but don't be like "omg this is so disgusting... how can anyone eat this.. ewww. I need to spit it out. I feel like throwing up" or "haha i dare you to eat this, omg ewww wowww he actually ate it." There are other ways to express disapproval people.

It is an acquired taste. You hate it first, but if you repeat several times, you get used to it then begin enjoying it. Some become so addicted to it they would consider any banquet without this dish incomplete/below standard.

TheFlightsofFantasy Why does it make eyk any less if they're making money? If they're making profit while doing what they love, then so be it. It's pretty challenging to do that nowadays so i applaud them! And if you already don't know: living isn't free, everyone has to make money somehow... If anything, they kind of give exposure to places they visit, so it's mutually beneficial. Don't forget either: as a viewer, you have the choice whether to watch their videos or not. And just as you have that choice, their followers have the choice to support them, whether it comes to watching their videos or purchasing their merchandise. If you don't like them or their videos, you are more than welcome to go watch something else.

In truth though, the information and interactions we see are limited to what their videos show. Perhaps they don't interact with people around them as much because other information take priority. In fact, I don't think the amount of interaction (or lack there of) devalues the information they give us. Personally I never even noticed that, but to each his own i suppose. Certain tones and attitudes don't always sit well with everyone... just agree to disagree! :/ On a side note: for them to live in a foreign country and speak the language is impressive. From a foreigner's perspective, English is so different from Korean, it takes effort and dedication to learn it! Besides it's probably safe to assume they have plenty of interactions off camera as well. :P

It is their take on what is happeneing in Korea. And having living here too I can say that alot of the things they are talking about are spot on.

Guys, if it's incorrect, just write it on your diary!! If they're tv broadcasters, they'd apologize to viewers or they'll fired. Why they making video is because youtube give them money, but they don't have eager to supervise the details. They just care about other big company's copyrights. But, it's not always correct just because they're doing OK. If you don't understand this, consider someone from other culture talks about your country or culture on web. And it's often biased or incorrect. Not only Asians are famous for nationalists, every country on earth would do same to those people.

TheFlightsofFantasy They have never ever claimed themselves as experts, and in fact if you actually payed attention to them in their videos, they always said "this is OUR experience in Korea" or "this is what WE think about this topic" or "This is from what WE see in our daily lives here", not once have they claimed to be experts and said "all of Korea is like this" or "All Koreans do this". NEVER. And they do have a Korean co-worker, SooZee, who is always referred to when they are unsure of something. So they are never there to show off like "We know everything about Korea", they HAVE been times when they really don't know something and ask their co-worker to verify.

TheFlightsofFantasy Okay first of all, like almost every known youtuber out there makes money off of their videos...that's not a reason to dislike them. Also, they started out only doing it for fun (they were teachers who taught English at a middle school and a high school) but later decided to quit those jobs to make a living off youtube, therefore renting out the EYK studio. (Before they just made videos in their tiny ass apartment). In case you didn't know, their co-worker SooZee is shown on camera a lot. But the thing is, EYK is owned and founded by Simon and Martina. Why would they show SooZee instead? It's not her youtube channel. That's like watching a movie where the side/supporting characters show up more than the actual main characters. That doesn't make sense. *"Wouldn't it make more sense to learn about Korea from an actual Korean?" if this is the question you are proposing, then you totally missed the purpose of EYK's channel by like 500 million light years. No, that is not the point of Eat Your Kimchi. In fact, them being North American/foreigners/westerners is what's the most important. Because it allows them to tell people who dont live in Korea the cultural differences. They will inform people based off their own experiences the difference between Korea and North America. They tell us the difference in food, traditions, holidays, mannerisms etc. And because they are Canadian themselves, they can give us more insight of things North Americans will find hard to adjust to or have no knowledge of whatsoever. What we NEED and WANT is the knowledge of a foreigner because a native Korean won't be able to relate to our western/foreign life styles. A native Korean wouldn't be able to say "Although in North America, we do things so and so but it is different in Korea" whereas Simon and Martina CAN.*
