Met him, shook his hand and was politely greeted with a broad, happy friendly and genuine smile. He's a real artist, not a reincarnation of his grampa but his own man. His musical tastes are varied and he can perform each sincerely and well. His Dad doesnt bankroll him, he earns his own keep and I hope he gets the chance to do his own thing, his own way and finds success.

Bill Anderson wrote Connie Smith's hit, "Once A Day". They needed some sweetening on the tracks & called in a guy named Weldon Myrick to play pedal steel. The next day after the song's release, Weldon got flooded with calls to record. He got a lot of gigs from that one song. Almost overnight, the pedal steel became the must-have sound on country records, the lap steel all but vanished from the country scene, and Myrick went on to become the Grand Ol Opry's house pedal steel player for something like the next 40 years. He's heard on the late great Gary Stewart's song, "She's Acting Single" (along with the Jordanaires on backing vocals), and in my mind it's some of the most fantastic, soulful pedal steel that's ever been recorded. The instrument's popularity is rightly deserved, and has been used on recordings from Pink Floyd to Meatloaf to Jackson Browne to Gerry Rafferty to Elton John. I have a ZB Custom of my own, but it needs a little maintenance lately. I played it in professional theater in the early 90's, the theater owners even fronted me the money to get it. I still like the old lap steel players, too, like Pete Kirby, Leon McAuliffe, Don Helms, & Big Joe Talbot.

@paulsavage50574 жыл бұрын
@@ivgotballsofsteel4048 What's wrong with country rap? That's what the blues is but rap is crap and it is not urban folk music. People can argue this point forever but it makes no difference because no body listens to folk music anyways. It's out of touch with the young people since all they want to do is fuck and complain about the environment while doing nothing.

Kayton was such a genuine Man there is no doubt his musical talents will inspire many for even more many years to come. He was definitely one of the richest men I've ever known. And that isn't from money, but pure class. I'll never forget his playing "I'm moving on" possibly several hundreds of times.
