Hi Nathan! Generally, right out of the box you won't need to store your meter for hours. The meters are shipped with the electrode hydrated. But you definitely want to get storage solution. This meter is handy because it can use Quick Cal to calibrate the pH. This video demonstrates a two point calibration using pH 4.01 and 7.01 buffers. The calibration solution your meter comes with will work just fine, but be sure you're in Quick Cal mode. You can check out how to get into Quick Cal Mode at 1:31

@@HannaInc I had the same problem. No storage solution provided. And unlike what you suggested, the electrode was bone dry right out of the box

The line on the caps gives you a reference for how much solution you need. Fill it to that line, and secure the cap. The tops of these caps tighten when turned to the left. This should cover your bulb and reference junction.

Thank you but i dont see any line on the cap of 98118 also this cap doesn't turn to the left to lock as you said. I guess your info is for another product. Thanks

Hey Boss, You're correct! I gave you info for a different product. My apologies. The HI98118 Cap does need to be filled about half way to keep the probe submerged. Sorry for the confusion.

Hanna Instruments, Inc. This pen really dissapoint me, not as good as it looks. First off the cap doesn't seal tight, if its not vertical the solution will pour out the cap drying the probe. Second i need to use too much storage sol about 10ml per week instead 5-10 drops of what i usually use with most testers. The cap should be redesigned and sealed. I wont return it because i like how fast it works but not buying another one after the year unless its changed.

Sorry to hear that. These meters will last a real long time when stored properly. putting the solution in the cap and placing the meter in its case allows you to keep the meter standing up right. Hope this helps!
