I WENT UP THE CRAZIEST LIFT IN THE WORLD | Battersea Power Station

I finally got tickets the crazy and super scary 109 LIFT at the iconic Battersea Power station here in London. It's 109 meters, or about 34 stories high, up one of the old functioning lifts at the refurbished station. This was a WEIRD experience, but was it really worth £22?

I used to work in marketing in the tourism sector and when you've seen heritage sites stories fantastically shown to their full historic value it's quite weird how badly Battersea lift has been done. D-Day Museum Portsmouth is fantastic! Quite an emotional visit. And your review made me smile. Thanks for being honest!

Even though the lift experience is overpriced like you say, it's still remarkable what they've done with the building as a whole. Will definitely try and visit when next in London 😊

I LOVE how you're so honest! I wish more people were as honest. So many people at press events get drawn into the free booze before the actual experience, so are really floating before anything happens - although it would have been fun to see them trying to walk in a circle. I know it is really time consuming to create vlogs, but I for one absolutely devour yours. They are fun and slightly quirky (in the most amazing way), and incredibly informative. Pretty please don't take January off. I know it is only a week in, but your skin looks amazing! Hope you have a really brilliant week!

I went at night and raining a few days before NYE 2023, not ideal but I made the most of my experience. I’m from the USA, I’m more critical of attractions in my home town, so I can appreciate Hannah’s perspective. She is also right, there are so many amazing and free attractions in London that are much more satisfying. Great review as always, Hannah’s channel inspired some of my visits while I was in town.

Thank you Hannah for the honest review! This is exactly why I subscribe to your videos. You hit the nail on the head with the 'value for the money' statement. Nobody wants to walk away from an experience thinking they had been taken advantage of just because of the 'hype' around it.

The reason for your success is that you are the real thing and you tell it exactly as it is. You use no tactics like the intensely nauseating clickbait. Your excellent narrative always flows and it isn't repetive. This experience excludes folk who need step free access, so I will never endorse it - thank you for highlighting this Hannah. Keep doing what you're doing💕

Thank you for bringing up accessibility issues! There were a number of sections during the tour when I was thinking, "Oh! I wouldn't be able to do that!" You are 100% right: if you can't make a paid, public attraction fully accessible, don't do it at all. And for that price! Yikes. Love your honest review and very professional audit of the experience, especially the pre-show. Happy new year, Hannah!

But there is a lift that bypasses the stairs. It does need booking in advance. Also the carer/wheelchair companion gets a complimentary ticket.

Hi Hannah, thanks again for a great vlog. My hubby and I did lift 109 on 12th December (we paid £15 each). We only waited 15 minutes though after going through security which took less than a minute. The guy we had was brilliant. He explained more about the history and what the power station was used for and how the graphics represented the energy used. We weren't made to walk in circles either. 🤣 I agree with you about it not being a fully inclusive experience. We were in the lift 10 minutes which we didn't think was too bad. We both enjoyed it. We were lucky because it was snowing and London looked beautiful all covered in white.

So I'm guessing that going way off peak is the best option. It seems that you had to wait less and were given more time to enjoy the views because there weren't as many people. I'm jealous you got to see London in snow like that, it must have been stunning!

@dee7380 we did a morning slot which worked out great as it wasn't too busy. I'd go again but at night. It would be lovely to see London all lit up especially in December when they have Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. Like Hannah, I wouldn't pay over £15 though. That's pushing it!

Thanks so much Hannah, this was very enlightening and appreciate your being so candid. I would have loved to go to Battersea power station but my legs dont work so well and stairs would be a problem. Walking round in a circle would also cause unnecessary discomfort. I love our heritage and being an engineer, Battersea is an iconic building and so pleased it has been put to use after so long being derelict.

Hannah - I think they need you to be their Director of Experience Events - your critique was absolutely spot on and if they had tried to make me walk round in that circle I would have sat on the floor in the middle in protest at being treated like a seven year old on a school trip and I laughed out loud when you called them out on it. Don't ever change as you say it how it is and that's what we love about you and why we keep watching your videos. Hope you get some international travel in this year - would love a Paris versus London vlog on which one is the best shopping experience. Hope you have a wonderful 2023 and congrats on the subscribers - nearly 100k wow - I started watching you when you had 1500 - wow success indeed and richly deserved.

Happy New Year Hannah!!! What a cool choice for your 1st vlog of the year. Battersea Power Station has a very nice architecture. I can imagine how challenging it was for all those skillful workers in the past to have such a huge power station build. Certainly the altitude and its height was one of the main difficulties. It is really an amazing construction and a very important landmark of London. Hannah. you made an excellent job showing us the Battersea Power Station. Thanks again!

One thing I love about London is the architecture and its mix of old and new. I walk my dog daily and had to buy heated gloves. They work, however it's hard to do anything with them on...can barely hold onto the leash! 100% agree w/you about the accessibility of the lift - inexcusable in 2023. As a person w/vertigo, that pre-show would have sent me over!

Hi Hannah, I love your honest review, I also don't think that it's worth that much. Glad the weather was good and there were good views. It really is great to see they kept some of the old features, looks great with the new. Yes that vehicle hanging on cables is a bit disconcerting, would give you a fright if you realized how it was hanging when you were standing under it. Thank you, really enjoyed the experience. I would love to go up the lift at Battersea station. I was rather surprised at the high cost. But as a tourist, I would probably do it once. It's disappointing that you're only up there for about 15 minutes, and then you have to go back down. I would much prefer if I could be left up there and I could spend as much time as I want... Very good video, and I really appreciate your candor... keep up the great work!

Went to Battersea a week before Christmas and the decorations were pretty nice they have so much roof space so they can go all out with them and it was so much better loads quieter than when it opened, I feel like £15 to £20 for the lift is pretty expensive because you can go further down the river and go to Sky Garden and The Garden at 120 for free and get good views, the only thing about this one is that it's way down the west side of the river

Thanks for taking us along! When you commented about walking in circles with strangers I nearly split out my tea. 🤣 I'm with you, for being so far removed from the main architectural landmarks of the city, I can't believe they can charge so much for 7 minutes (with a few flights of stairs!). This reminds me I haven't done the London eye since 2011, so will plan to do that again my next trip. For upcoming content, would you ever be inclined to have a go at Greenwich? It's also been ages since I've been there, but we went on a gorgeous spring day and fully enjoyed the ride down the Thames as well as the observatory and the lush park areas around it. Would love to find a proper vlog of it so I can refer my colleagues; they never seem to take me seriously that's a very solid spot to visit and wander as a tourist.

One of the reasons why I like watching your vlogs is that you don't beat around the bush about the experience and the value for money. Like everywhere the cost of living is ridiculous enough but to charge 20 pounds to go in a lift yes is a bit excessive. And if I do get to the UK I won't be on my list.

At that price, by the time a group of 4 get there go up and buy anything from the shop you would be well north of £150. Westminster Cathedral charges a mere six pounds to go up the the bell tower. Lovely architecture at the Cathedral and great views from that tower. Check the days it opens though. Look forward to your videos

Thank you so much for your honest review. Hilarious when you said "I paid 20 pounds to walk in a circle with a bunch of strangers". Spot on. Cheers from Toronto 🇨🇦😊

Agree with you about the pre show. I kept wondering if that is what the trip to the afterlife is like if you haven’t lived a good life. Much prefer the other lift video where people were dropping their drinks and could stay up there for a long time. Cheers!

A proper honest review. We were going to go to London to do this but now will do something else instead. We recently did the view from the Shard..on a red letter day voucher and that was very good and worth doing.

HNY, really informative. Looks expensive so I think the London Eye is better value. We did it a few years ago and it was a great experience. I think just go there for the architecture and shopping and eating😂. Looking forward to your 2023 videos👍
