As described by Ojibwe teacher, Basil Johnston: The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody [....] Unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption. Yes we all have our own looks for the wendigo. i love watching Wendigo stories no matter what it looked like, but its original appearance is what Mr. Johnston gave us

They also are said to have the head of a deer (I know the word deer is plural I just can't be bothered to put even 2 seconds of thought into it) and are around 15 feet tall

CloverW don’t worry, deer is both plural and singular. ;) Yep, it depends on which tribes tells the legend. So the creatures vary on their deception. But all are said to be gaunt or bony.

I prefer the original Algonquin depiction, it's VERY similar to the Ojibwe, the modern or deer like interpretation doesn't make sense to me as a wendigo is supposed to be a human possessed after resorting to greed and cannibalism in desperate situations, a cannibalistic deer/stag doesnt make sense and seems to come from a Inuit folklore legend, I forgot the name, but it seems the modern wendigo is more based on that, not the Wendigo it's self

@@harveystew Not his old stuff... He revolutionized music at the time along with Nine Inch Nails. I don't like them at all, but they are classic artists for sure. They inspired genres from metal, rock, pop all the way up to electronic.

@@harveystew You can have the opinion to dislike his music, but no one can argue against him being a great artist. He has millions of fans for a reason, and his lyrical content is absolutely amazing. He is not NEARLY as bad as the media demonized him to be. Most of his lyrics give hope in a admittedly macabre way

Few different versions, the older ones are a emaciated giant human, some others have animal parts to them, often rotting or greyish. The bigfoot-like versions are more recent.

he's a cannibal? like what does it not have to do with him? if they were real or he was he'd for sure be a wendigo as that's how you become one. the fact he does it willingly and not out of desperation would for sure land him the the wendigo boat.

CloverW. Do you also like the wendigo depicted with a deer/ elk skull? I get that there are many legends and varying depictions of wendigo, and I like them all a little bit, but I prefer the depiction of a skull headed beast. It seems more true to the native american legends and it's also a refreshing change from all the humanoid monsters out there.
