The key to crossing streets in vietnam is to so at a steady pace without stoping or delaying. The riders will gauge your speed and avoid you. It's refreshing to see a young lady who is confident in herself that she doesn't have to paint a mask onto her face. You're a lovely natural young lady.

honking in Vietnam has two ways of understanding when participating in traffic. When the bug makes 1, 2 beeps, it signals you to pay attention to move to avoid collision. When honking continuously beep beep beep.. they ask you to go immediately or give way for them to go first. Everyone when coming to Vietnam, please cross the road, pay attention to the speed and distance of the vehicle, they will avoid you (when the first car slows down, you should pass right away and if the second car accelerates, move slowly. The first car won't hit you, don't worry, keep moving and don't stop suddenly)
@ProbablyLost
@ProbablyLost Жыл бұрын
This is excellent advice! We figured there was some type of code to all the honking. We learned very quickly to just cross the road in a consistent pace. That seemed to help us & everyone trying to drive around us too. Thank you so much for your comment & for watching our video!

It's got this wild west feel to it for sure!!! We've seen videos of the train but it didn't really hit us (pun not intended) until we sat at our table with the beer & the waiter said to stay behind the yellow line, which was a few feet from the tracks. That's when it got real🤣 Thank you so much for watching Matt!!! We miss the heck out of you!!!❤️

@@ProbablyLost Tim and Fin did the motorbike across Vietnam years ago and Tim made Fin learn to ride a bike halfway through their trip because the bike they had couldn't hold two big and heavy (compared to Vietnamese) Americans. One Pack Wanderers also did something similar. Just be aware that you are technically not supposed to ride motorbikes there due to a certain treaty, but plenty of people still do it. Try to avoid the cops or have a 2nd wallet to pay "coffee money" when caught.

One of the best part of my visit in Hanoi were learning how to walk in traffic and to cross the streets. After some adjustment time it felt safe to walk at the roads and crossing areas without or with traffic signals (note: most traffic starts to cross the street a couple of seconds before the light turns green and many mopeds cross with or without it being green or red). This made it much easier moving around when in Ho Chi Minh City and other places we were staying at.. and once returning to Hanoi it felt as easy as riding a bike.. But yeah.. at first its intimidating, then you start to see how it flows. I can best describe it that the bikes are like a pack of fishes moving around in the water of traffic.. they move around you as you walk (but do still keep your eyes open).. the cars and larger vehicles are moving (most of the times) in straight lines so you need to wait for them to pass if they are close to you.

Thank you so much Michelle!! As far as where we stay, it kiiiinda depends. In expensive cities, we tend to stay a bit outside since prices are a bit cheaper the further out you go. From there we just rely on public transportation. However in the more affordable cities like Hanoi, we try to stay as centrally as possible (without being to close to the late night party noises LOL). We've talked a lot about including more of our prices in the videos, so maybe we could also start including a small bit of where we're staying & how much accommodations cost?? The rule to win this fear is keep routin slowly walking when you across the streams of motobike! motor-bykers knows how to avoid you themself in chaos-order! remmember do not run and stop suddently , accident immidiatly ! @ProbablyLost
@ProbablyLost Жыл бұрын
Hi!!! I'm so glad you've been able to use our videos!!! GREAT question btw. So the first time we went to train street, it was guarded & we were not allowed to go down it without an escort. The escort will be someone working at one of the coffeeshops or cafes that are on the tracks. Normally you just have to buy a drink or something there & you're good to go. You'll be able to take pictures & all that cool stuff. However in this video when we visited at night, we didn't have any problem at all visiting. Nobody was there to stop us or try & escort us to a cafe or anything. I wish I knew 100% as to why, but my only guess would be that during the day it will be guarded but at night it's opened to walk through. But I'm really not totally sure. Either way, it's still very easy to visit even if you need the escort. The escorts are SO friendly and eager to bring you down the street, so you'll be good to go either way. I hope this helps you a bit, & thank you so much again for taking the time to watch our videos!! Have a great trip!!!!:)

Oh man I just googled that & I hate that we missed it!!! We tried a ton of different Vietnamese dishes though in our next video so hopefully some of the other great options will be apart of that video. And of course, if we leave anything out then please let us know so that nobody else misses them! Thank you so much for watching!!!

Hi Tien!!! We really loved our visit & we're hoping to do EXACTLY that!! We'd LOVE to do a roadtrip through the countryside since we unfortunately missed that part of Northern Vietnam (but it gives us a chance to come back!). As for where we're from, we're from Nashville, Tennessee in the USA. A pretty long way from Vietnam!! Thank you so much for watching our video!!! It means the world to us😊

Going to Ho Chi Minh city or Hanoi is like going to New York. Imagine if these Vietnamese travel to New York. You would ask why they chose that city as their vacation.

@ProbablyLost Жыл бұрын
Hi Anita!! We stayed in a place called Hanoi House Hostel & Hotel. It has some pretty cheap dorms and rooms but we ended up booking one of the better rooms due to us really needing strong WiFi (which they were able to confirm with us before booking/checkin). I can’t remember EXACTLY how much we spent per night but I believe it was $40 per night. I hope this helps and thank you so much for subscribing/watching our video!!❤️

I want to go to Vietnam so bad. There are so many things to see. I'm a little older(early 60's) and I'd be going with my daughter who is 30. I don't mind booking all our own trips and hotels.. my biggest concern is travel and how to get around. Any tips to help me with that?
@ProbablyLost
@ProbablyLost Жыл бұрын
Hi!!! So as far as getting around, we would definitely recommend flying from city to city & once you're in the city, we recommend using the app Grab in order to get local transportation. Grab is basically the same as Uber so you know what you're paying, & don't have to worry about getting scammed by a taxi driver or anyone else. The reason we recommend flying from city to city is because the country of Vietnam is VERY spread out so the bus routes are VERY long (6 hours minimum a lot of the time). Vietnam's going to be very different from anywhere you've ever experienced & you'll feel the culture shock when you arrive, but I PROMISE you'll get the hang of it. It's such a beautiful place!! I hope this helps you a bit, & thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video. It seriously means the world to us!!!😊

@@ProbablyLost You guys should check out JoshBeTravelin as he's from TN...but from a very small town so he hightailed it out of there and ran away to the West coast. He visited Vietnam last year and fell in love when he motorbiked from north to south. He made a recent video about Vietnam where he spoke of his experience and how much it moved him (he's been to 70 countries, so that says something about Vietnam). Also check out MomDuty as the only country they visited twice last year was Vietnam and the hubby keeps talking about wanting to move to Hanoi as they all loved it there.

Vietnam still have many motorbikes which make the country looked poor and underveloped. In several hundreds of year, I hope they could drive all cars and look more modern and richer.
@ProbablyLost

I think all the motorbikes just adds to the charm! The more the motorbikes transition to cars, the worse the traffic congestion will get so I think the use of motorbikes is a GREAT idea! Hopefully one day we’ll be brave enough to try it out for ourselves😂 thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video!!😊
