Gill, you can't compare eras, but you can compare the greats with what they have achieved in relative to their contemporaries, and then compare them again with each other using this yardstick. I admit this would be hard with football. Though to be fair, this was in 2011... despite the fact that I have a feeling you still have not changed your position today. And since you mentioned Lee Chong Wei, I'd rate him maybe 4th or 5th on the greatest list. I agree that Chong Wei is technically on par with the greatest of them all. Put him in an imaginative one-off match any day with anyone across the eras and he could probably beat them all save Lin Dan, but put him again in an imaginative World Championship final or Olympic gold-medal match with the greatest across the eras... then I'm not so sure. No. 2 is a close fight between Chen Long, Taufik and Yang Yang. Then you have other greats like Hoyer Larsen, Zhao Jianhua, Heryanto Arbi, Frost, Chong Wei etc. Now we have Momota Kento coming up. You don't like Lin Dan, but he IS the greatest in history so far.
