Hans Muth returns to Harleysville, PA for the 40th Anniversary rally of the BMW R80/GS and R65LS. George "Schorsch" Martin came along, they unveiled an amazing collaboration of the R80/GS, fulfilling what this bike would have looked like, had Hans not left BMW. Todd Trumbore once again hosted this gathering, the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Bavarian Bike Barn was quite special, seeing Todd's collection displayed simply makes one drool a bit. Bob Henig, Dr. Greg Frasier, Udo Gietl, Tom Cutter, Karl Meyers and Armond Ensanian also gave presentations during this event. So many great folks and bikes attended - can't wait for the next one.

My wife and I rode a red R65LS up the remote west coast of Australia on our honeymoon in 1987. It was a magical experience. Camping on beaches, catching lobsters from the ocean. Carpets of wildflowers. Very fond memories of that trip and that sturdy versatile little bike.

It was a great event, wasn't it? Did you by chance make it up to the 100th BMW Motorrad Anniversary this past month? Glad your bike is in the video, thanks for watching!

Did this bring back memories. Back in the seventies, I bought my used 1970 R60/5 and 1974 R90/6 from Stan's in Doylestown, and my new 1976 R75/6 and Red Smoke R100S from Bob. Halcyon days they were. I miss them all, but my "Big Red Who Smokes" R100S was epic!

Red Smoke to me was the best paint scheme ever! And yes, an R100S truly is epic!

It's poetic that the BMW air-heads have reappeared on everybody's radar. They were respected back in the day but were also considered weird. After all these years, we realize now the reliability and the longevity of the design and the really astounding thing is the fact that many are still running and looked to have hardly aged. For me personally, one of the most iconic motorcycles from the 70's was the BMW R90S in Daytona Orange. Maybe in a way, it explains that now being old, I drive a BMW M2 in charcoal grey.

Yeah the R90S is iconic for sure. Hans came over for that models' anniversary too, sadly I had no idea that was happening so missed out. Personally I didn't care for the Daytona Orange as much, it's too "flashy" for me.

Owned an R65LS in the early nineties. Sold it cos it had a vibration at certain revs with the 1000cc BMs did not have. It was annoying. Other than that, it was a good bike for driving across the city.

A few of my friends that own the R65LS swear by it. I never owned or rode one, so couldn't speak to it.

Glad you enjoyed it. These are so much fun to "produce", and a lot of work. But so worth it in the end!
