Cranes of India: There are 5 types of Cranes in India, and the state-wise details are as follows,
Jammu & Kashmir - Black Necked Crane
Ladakh - Black Necked Crane
Tibetan Plateau - Black Necked Crane
Indian Subcontinent - Common Crane, Sarus Crane
North India - Siberian Crane
North West India - Demoiselle Crane, Siberian Crane
South India - Demoiselle Crane
Five elegant species of cranes are found in India. Black Necked Crane is pale-bodied with a black neck, a dark drooping ‘bustle’ of elongated feathers above the tail, and a patch of bare red skin on the crown. They are found in the Tibetan plateau, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir.
Common Crane is very large and tall, with distinctive "bustle" on lower back. Adult has black-and-white head pattern, and small red crown patch.
Demoiselle Crane is a small gray crane with a black neck, fiery eyes, and pure white plumes extending out from behind the eyes found in South and North West India.
Sarus Crane is the tallest flying bird in the world, and also the State bird of Uttar Pradesh.
Siberian Crane, also known as the Siberian white crane or the snow crane is all snowy white, identifiable by their red mask from behind eye to bill, white cap and black wingtips. They are found in the North and North West of India.
