So incredibly helpful. It’s a hefty price point for us but I really do want this.

It looks like it has some great "accessories" that I use with other curriculums. This was a great review. Thank you :-)

A pro I found is that it helps with kiddos with letter reversals! I love that the b and d are lightly outlined already in the spelling portion, at least in the first several books. My con is I couldn't tell if I was seeing progress or not because my son would memorize the stories after the first read... although separately he couldn't decipher the words. My sons are profoundly dyslexic and we've struggled finding anything that works but I do like this program!
@EverydayHomeschooler

I completely agree with that pro/con!

I am starting Happy Cheetah with my son who has severe developmental delays (almost 10 at K level)! He is excited and I am excited. I hope this is the key we need to get him reading.

Thank you for this review! I am trying to teach my kindergartener to read but it’s hard. TGATB Pre-K and Primer were/are to difficult for her. We are now doing explode the code which is better but a lot of the pictures are too old, my child wouldn’t necessarily recognize the items. Do you know how happy cheetah compares to explode the code?
@EverydayHomeschooler
@EverydayHomeschooler 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I have used explode the code workbooks as a supplement to full reading programs when teaching my kids to read. I like to use them for extra phonics practice. Happy cheetah is a full language arts for k-2. Hope this helps!

I taught my oldest to read using AAR, but it didn't work for my second child who I think is mildly dyslexic. I used Logic of English with her and I absolutely LOVE this program. She will finish the program this year. I am hoping LOE works with my youngest two children. My third has apraxia of speech, so I keep my eyes open to any kind of LA curriculum/reviews that pop up as I know his learning to read journey will probably be even more challenging than my youngest daughter's was. So I enjoyed watching this review & how it has worked for Mariah.

Yes! One of the most difficult lessons I’ve had to learn as a homeschooler is to be flexible. Just because a curriculum worked well for one of my children, doesn’t mean it will work for another. Your comments always encourage me Elaine!!! Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. I would love to see a video comparing what is covered in the different levels you have. I couldn't find a sample and I'm not sure where to place my son. Are there sight words in book 1 and 2? Are the word card games in both 1 and 2?
@EverydayHomeschooler
@EverydayHomeschooler 3 жыл бұрын
There is an placement test on happy cheetah’s website that should help. The game cards/sight words pair with book 1 cub starting workbook.

We’re having great success with All About Reading. I stretch things out ant add some different games and activities but it’s working well with my struggling reader.

Thanks for the clarification about kindergarten lessons vs your daughter's actual grade. I'm interested in this, although we don't have any need for yet another set of letter flashcards or play letters. That's what annoys me about some of these all-in-one sets.

Gotcha. So far I like that we use everything that comes with this curriculum every single lesson. No extra frills or unnecessary products or extras. Also I know they sell some of their products a la cart.

Thanks for the great review! Are you using a spelling program with this or do you feel like it has enough spelling within it?
@EverydayHomeschooler
@EverydayHomeschooler 3 жыл бұрын
I actually asked Dr Karen if she would pair Spelling You See with this and she said no. She recommends just using Happy Cheetah for K-2 and then starting with Spelling You See C around 3rd grade. So no we are not doing any spelling, just happy cheetah!

Everyday Homeschooler I am interested in the program but I guess I am trying to figure out how they actually learn to read. Do they just memorize the words? I am used to teaching reading with phonics. Do they eventually learn vowels pairs, diagraphs, etc. What does she suggest they use for reading after they complete the program?

I am a busy mom of five soon six kids. I need something very simple with little prep work and not too stressful for me to use to teach my upcoming first grader. We started All About Reading but it’s too stressful and overwhelming for me to keep using with a lot going on at once right now. Very worried I am going to fail and mess up teaching my child to read. Would appreciate any advice you have please!
