I suspect that every piano roll collector has a "top 5" list of rolls they'd love to have. This is one of those rolls for me. For years, I have looked for this roll. It would, of course, be old and used and who knows in what condition. Thanks to some modern technology (or help in this case), a digital file of that original roll was made and then picked up/obtained by EUTERPEROLLS in the Netherlands. They can now special make single rolls upon order. They are wonderful people and a huge shout out to them for being able to cut and make piano rolls in this day and age! Yes, the paper is purple, and it's fantastic!

Niiiiccccceeeee.... Yes, the Dutch street 'orgels' have such a happy, clear and buoyant sound to them, also with rolls and tons and tons of all sorts of songs from way back when, to lots of pop hits and traditional Dutch folk songs, too ! They can be found in open-air markets every week - also, a mainstay on busy city streets, such as in Amsterdam - and, also in the small villages, like Zaltbommel - every Saturday rolling through the cobblestone streets amongst the cozy, little Dutch houses - piping and tooting away with their merry sounds, too !! They add such a wonderful, positive energy to wherever they pop up... and this player piano is a beautiful example of their cultural richness and expertise in continuing to bring this music to the people and keep the traditions alive and pumping !!! They're decorated sooooooo authentically with their colours and figures, etc... really, such a warm and welcoming feeling of celebration, making the days sunny and bright - smiles and happy tunes to all :))

Thank you for your comment. The Dutch culture you described sounds like a lot of fun with richness and musical appreciation. While the roll itself was made in the Netherlands, this piano was made in Chicago and has been in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States for over 100 years, where it still remains to this day. KZfaq provides this great platform to share music like this on a worldwide basis.

Hello. Hang on to that original roll! They are hard to find. There was a MIDI file created of this song sometime ago. A company in the Netherlands picked it up, they have a roll punch machine and can use the file to make these rolls special order. That is where this roll came from. They are not being reissued by anyone I know of. As for the Victor Arden (John Lewis Fuiks) question, I don't honestly know if that was a pseudonyms for Arden. Arden worked for the American Piano company which later merged with Aeolian and of course, worked for QRS. I'm not aware if he ever produced or arranged for Atlas. Interestingly, I have recently obtained a Phil Lynch roll, Piccolo Pete. I'll be posting it soon. It, too, is Atlas. Thanks

Now this is a piece of Music that I could hear several times after eachother first the original then the recut of Euterperolls on my player and then this one to hear the little differences between them and still love them all 👍🏻❣️

I listened to the Aeolian Hall recording probably 200 times over the last 4 years or so, finally I got the nerve to scan the roll, then I reconstructed it and made the mistake of posting it for free without cleaning up the master and then Euterpe comes along and breaks the first rule of thumb when making new rolls: don't use unfinished piano roll reconstructions to recut rolls xDDDD I'm going to finish the mastering process and make better recuts at some point soon, and for cheaper too!

Is it just me or is the paper purple? (yeah I wrote this before I read the description haha!) I have to get to work making a presentable piano roll master of this roll, then we'll be able to hear what Phil's work really sounds like :D I wonder if there are any more Atlas rolls arranged by him?

@@SevenPlus65 Ooo, do you have that roll per chance or know where I could find a recording? I'm curious to hear if it's similar to this bombastic arrangement 🤔If I can find a scan then I could probably recut it just as easily as anything else. I finally cracked the problem of converting midis to Gcode, any midis, so now I think all I need is the machine and a player piano to do test cuts until everything works :D

The "Holy Grail" of rolls. Atlas rolls for sure. I know this to be a very sought-after roll. I saw it for sale online a few years back (could have been 6 months with my memory) but sadly, it went for only about $60. I didn't even bid because I figured it'd be well over $100. Would I take an original? Absolutely. Will I go out of my way to get one.... not so much. Enough of me...... this old piano sounds wonderful playing it! And she's topless again!

This is an excellent, excellent arrangement. I do not even like the song - I find it slow moving melodically and harmonically, but Phil Lynch (not a familiar name to me) does such a good job that he makes me enjoy it. Quite a bit :) Thanks for putting this out here!

There's just something "cool" about being able to watch the bass hammers playing those scales that are plentiful and picking up the 1 & 3 quarter notes during syncopated areas in this version.

I'm a little embarrassed to what extent I sometimes go to get something I think I need... and in excess. I learned that about me during the days of covid and the toilet paper shortage. 😅 At any rate, it's here, would be a waste to stick it on a shelf and not share. I've come to appreciate so many rare, unique and amazing rolls from your channel. Songs and rolls I never knew existed. You've brought history back to life...guess I'm trying to do my little part too.

@rowanbelt3612 😁😁 We should all have a thing about toilet paper rolls! In that arena, quality, 2 ply thickness dynamics and price per linear foot. ..Costco always wins.

Everyone has their niche or what they like. I'm speaking specifically to roll collecting when I say all this. But like for me, I like the pop songs of the 20s and early 30s. But I have also learned about many artists, composers, rare rolls, rags, etc. I'm glad my specific area of knowledge has been able to help others in this fun hobby!

I cant quite tell, but is there bridging in the holes of this roll? Because I'm thinking about having some rolls cut by them but some of the notes are very long.

I haven't played this roll for a while....I need to play it and take a closer look for the bridging. What rolls are you looking to have recut? (If it's OK to say.....) if they'll cut 2 and make the price less expensive...I might be interested if you're thinking about that

@@SevenPlus65 its some new piano arrangments that are a litte "crazier" then what you might think. ;) I just need the composer to give me a mdi file to send to be cut.

Yeah, they took my scan and yes they did punch it but they DIDN'T clean up the messy midi and TRANSPOSED THE TUNE UP A STEP HIGHER MAKING NOTES GO OFF THE SCALE.

I'm just happy to get this much of the song as opposed to nothing at all! 😊 I love it. One of my new favorite rolls for sure.

@@SevenPlus65 Yeah it is a good roll and it's better than nothing but I really hope that a bunch of these faulty recuts don't end up in circulation making archival even more difficult down the line than it is already.

@@SevenPlus65 Yeah, which I of course haven't had the time to actually go through and reconstruct the piano roll punch for punch but I would've certainly made the time if the guy that sent Euterpe my midi had asked for it to be cleaned up more!
