I'm 44 and got to this music only 3 years back, and I do not regret anything that didn't happen before, cause now I realize and enjoy what's good, and I'm gonna give it over to my sons, and I'm not gonna let loose of this, the Roses, the Inspirals, the Soup Dragons, the Charlatans, Primal Scream, New Order, Joy Division, Northside, Kitchens of Distinction, Sea Urchins, Pastels or any other cool buggers! so enjoy your next 50 years as a youngster, it's only beauty that fades, hahaha!

Yes, Its all the same area, usually catorgorised as Moss Side, it's split into many areas, which you mentioned, except wythenshaw! But every huge city has it's downfalls... but luckily Manchester doesn't have that many. However its credentials are endless; Bowdon, Hale Barns, Flixton, Urmston, Wilmslow, Hale, Bramhall, Didsbury, Knutsford, Alderley Edge, Lymm, Milnron and Gatley... to name some... one incredibly amazing place to live...

Hayes Carll and Ryan Bingham are good if you want some country or Americana. Wild Flag is pretty good. Scott Walker's been around forever but I think he has a new album coming out sometime in the next year or two. I saw Best Coast at a music festival recently and they were pretty decent. Again, you have the world in your pocket, start paying attention to music sites, give everything a listen, maybe look around your local music scene. There's a massive, wonderful world of music to be discovered.

Throw in the 'Freaky Dancing' 12" EP, the '24 Hour Party People' 12" EP and the 'Squirrel and G-man...' LP and you have their best period, me thinks!

There's a ton of great music being made today. It's just not part of the big music industrial complex. I could list a dozen bands off the top of my head that are making music today and are at least as good as the Happy Mondays. If the music you are listening to is mediocre, then listen to better music. In the '80s, we had to look for good music - we might get lucky and have a local radio station that played some, but mostly we had to hunt for it.

All of those bands have had at least one new album or EP of new music released in the last 12 months or so (except Portishead, which was a whopping five years ago, so sorry about that one, and Rapeman, which I mistakenly included because I meant to include Manorexia - don't ask me how I confused them - and they released Dinoflagellate Blooms in 2011, so again sorry to include something so old as two years; I still think of both as current bands because they currently play live).

That depends entirely upon your taste in music. If you like hip hop, check out Danny Brown, Death Grips or Shabazz Palaces. If you like hardcore, maybe something like Ceremony or Fucked Up. If you're at all into the indie, multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter thing, Andrew Bird and Sufjan Stevens are good. With Punk/Indie rock bands, Titus Andronicus, Ted Leo and Male Bonding are good. Jack White's been putting out good solo material. Black Joe Lewis is good for some high energy Soul/R&B.

Vini Reilly - "And that guitarist, what do they call him, Moose, the most useless guitarist I've ever met, had absolutely no idea what he was doing which is particularly interesting since what he is actually doing is the most wonderful, bizarre and creative guitar playing that I've heard for fifteen years"
@FaoladhTV10 жыл бұрын
And I don't think I said "new", I said "making music today". However, if you want only "new", there's Bat Country (sadly already disbanded after the bass player was killed in a tragic shooting) and First Aid Kit (six years is still new enough, I'd say). Or CHVRCHES and True Widow. Or Lanterns on the Lake and Teeth of the Sea.

@hypercatjohn: I see where you're coming from, and I understand. Different times, different ways, per se? I just hate it when people rag on modern music, especially since I know there are great, hardworking bands out there, y'know? I'm sure there was a great vibe with this music, along with other bands of the scene, and just good music in general at the time; I'm not denying that.
