You should make a video about cases (at least the most useful ones), the same way you did with the verbs Some other stuff could be about Plurals Family Adjectives to describe people

I really like this video... very informative and well done as always. You're a natural! I've always had questions about name days in Finland but I always forgot about it whenever the opportunity came about to ask. In Finland is a person's name day sometimes the equivalent of a birthday with a cake and gifts, and, if so, is someone's birthday as big a deal as it is here in North America? Thank you.
@KatChatsFinnish
@KatChatsFinnish 5 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the family, for some when they're kids they have something small but never to the extent of a birthday - and usually it would only involve family eg. grandparents (at least from my experience). For me, it was always just something people wished and that was the extent of it haha. So birthdays are the main celebration in Finland too :D

Hyvää nimipäivää Katjalle! *is that ,,lle" the proper way to write/say for this occasion as well? We just add it to the person's name, cause it's ,,towards" the person? Lovely video as always! Is there something special you do for your Name's Day?

So, in Hungary we also celebrate namedays. It is fun. But on the 25th of november the name in our calendar is Katalin. Noooo. It doesn't creepy at all. :D Anyway.... I started to to learn counting to 1000 in finnish on my own. Might be easy but I feel a little awful when I say kuusisadanviisikymmentanélja :D

i want to know how to call my girlfriend's family. like is there any specific word to call the mother or father of my Finnish girlfriend?
@KatChatsFinnish
@KatChatsFinnish 5 жыл бұрын
Um, I guess mother in law = anoppi, and father in law = appi(ukko) is closest for a "word", you could use herra (mr) rouva (mrs) "insert last name" - but everyone has preferences - you could maybe ask your girlfriend to see what she thinks they'd prefer? :)

Yeah, some people with more rare names don't have a name day. But name days are also updated, so if some names become more popular, they will get a name day.

Hei Katja! I've been watching your videos and they're great ! They've helped me learn different things. I have a question, though. In this video you explain that hyvä is good and päivä name, so far so good. But.... Why do you double The ä and said hyvää päivää ? Does the meaning change ? 😓Kiitos paljon 😊🇫🇮
@KatChatsFinnish
@KatChatsFinnish 5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you so much! :D The double aa/ää at the end of the word signifies the partitive case, so the word is the same just has a case ending added to the end xD It's kinda confusing I agree hah!!
@Alex-bp6jy
@Alex-bp6jy 5 жыл бұрын
That's a question I'm also looking foward to clarify, and not only in this context. Many other contexts demands "doubling" the last vowel, and that's something I just can't understand.

@@KatChatsFinnish thanks for answering... Still confused 😥 I was wondering if you could make a video explaining this .. please ?? ☹️ I've checked the last one about separating double letters, like kisa and kissa and stuff, but I would like to learn more Finnish. Kiitos Katja 😊

@@gabrielacarlon3953 Usually partitive cases is formed by adding "a" or "ä" at the end of the noun and in this case, partitive is used when sending wishes ex. "hyvää syntymäpäivää" (happy birthday" or "hyvää joulua" (Merry Christmas). "Hyvä" happens to already end with an "ä" so the partitive is formed by adding another "ä"
