Becket Cook, author of "A Change of Affection," gives me the pleasure of a long conversation on New Year's Eve. We discuss Jesus, homosexuality, speaking in tongues, Paris, Hollywood, Mariska Hargitay, and much more.

Victoria, being a young Christian girl I also sat on the benches at church camp wondering why the people who did a lot of sins were the ones who got to get up on stage and give their testimony. What about boring ol’ girls like me who are trying to follow Jesus at 12, 13,14 years old? But I will say this, some people DO learn from the mistakes of others and don’t want to “learn the hard way”. I’m thankful God helped me to be a person who wanted to listen and learn! (Not that when confronted with true temptation I didn’t give in a few times.) So, let’s all keep sharing our redemption stories!!

When I was 18, I remember talking to a friend and sharing some of the things I’d done while being a Christian but really living apart from God. I told her about some of the sexual sins I’d done, the partying and drinking during the past couple years, and how I came out of that because I felt convicted about What I was doing, and I knew I needed to go back to God. I remember her saying she wished she had a testimony like mine, and I gently but firmly rebuked her, and told her that she should never feel ashamed or have regret for walking with God and not committing the same acts or sins someone else did, because her testimony was equally as important to others, if not more. And that having the testimony of trusting in God fully, and remaining faithful was powerful.

Victoria, you said something so profound to me. "How do you fix something that was ingrained into you as a child?" This is why we must be born again. God is the only way to heal the human mind.

Good Answer. However, I am born again and still wrestle with childhood trauma....I guess it's the struggle of flesh and spirit that will end when we see Him.

This show was such a blessing! Love your love for each other!!! I’ve had much the same experience praying in the Spirit as Becket has although only as intense maybe one time. The way I would communicate it is that God knows us more intimately and completely than we know ourselves, so the Spirit can pray for us more effectively because it’s God praying THROUGH us for what WE or whomever we are praying for need. How much more effectively can God pray for us than we can pray for ourselves? So when we pray in the Spirit, we are allowing the Holy Spirit to pray for and through us. It’s AMAZING!!!! If I am praying about a specific situation, God sees completely and knows the end and the beginning of that situation, so He can pray by His Spirit much more completely and effectively than I could pray on my own. I may not know what I’m saying/ what the Spirit is saying, but He does 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Sexual violation in childhood can cause sexual confusion. I work with Christians who have been violated, and lead them to encounter Jesus personally where He heals them. It’s a profound ministry. Sometimes the memory of the violation can be repressed, but Holy Spirit will reveal when it’s time for the wound to be cleansed and healed. Love your show…🙏🏼❤️

The gift of tongues is multifaceted. It is a prayer language, everyone should have…but it can also be a gift of prophecy. If it is a gift of prophecy it has to be interpreted. It can also be used as intercession for yourself or someone else. I have the gift and sometimes when I pray in tongues, for someone, I can literally hear their prayers. I’ve had the gift since 1996 and I was in ministry for many years. It’s a beautiful gift that’s why Paul said he was thankful that he had it more than anyone.

Your comment reminded me of something that happened quite a few years ago but that I've always remembered. There was an area here in the U.S. where churches were being set on fire and some people realized that one of their family members was in those locations for business purposes and correctly suspected he was setting the fires. The man who was committing those acts of arson had been sexually abused as a child. The father had talked to the abuser but apparently nothing else had been done. I still remember the son who was an arsonist talking with a policeman when in custody, saying in a friendly, hearty voice something like, 'You don't think I'm a bady guy, do you?" but there was a strange flatness to his demeanor. I was thinking he might be a sociopath and I wonder how much of that came from sexual abuse that was not effectively dealt with.
@ChrisieCouncil
@ChrisieCouncil 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewbrendan1579 he definitely could have dissociated to cope with the sexual trauma and it might have been a “part” of him setting the fires. Each part has to be healed, delivered and integrated by Holy Spirit. Once this happens, unexplainable compulsive or destructive behaviors can miraculously stop.
@sallymay9574
@sallymay9574 2 жыл бұрын
Becket, I completely respect and understand what you are saying about how we shouldn’t get too wrapped up in trying to figure out the origins of SSA because the behaviors are still sinful and the bottom line is we need to turn away from sinful behavior. The only thing I would say is that on one level it does matter because, especially for parents, it helps to guide us with how to better parent and develop our relationships with our children (dads being more involved, less detached, moms being less domineering, etc). It’s also helpful for parents to know to be extra vigilant with exposure to pornography, etc. I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

Dear Victoria, I want to encourage you that you don't want Beckett's or anyone else's testimony but your own. The Truth is that by being saved young, you were protected from so much hurt and damage. My testimony is much like yours. I don't think it's right for people to share their testimony in a way that sounds like they still love their sin. It would have been better, I think, if they had told you the ways they had been hurt or had hurt others as a result of their sin, the lasting far reaching scars, because those things are what you were protected from. I love Beckett's testimony and I love yours and I love mine, and I don't think anyone could handle anyone else's, but he Lord will use each one how He chooses. God bless you!

Yes, yes, it was Gilda "It's always something" Radner: She was in the Toronto cast of the musical "Godspell" when she got a spot in the original round of SNL. Her big number from that show was-"Learn Your Lessons Well". In 1986, she went on Late Night with Letterman, and sang that song; right around the time, Victoria, when you were winning a spot on SNL. Becket, Victoria, all believers here, what do you think: "Learn Your Lessons Well". Not just a good song, but a very good New Year's resolution. Amen.

I Cor 14 is an excellent chapter for teaching about tongues. Specifically in v.5 Paul says, “Now I want you all to speak in tongues...” Why would he say that if it were not possible for everyone. Also, v.18 “I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.” Finally, part of the full armor of God describes in Eph 6 is v.18 “praying at all times in the Spirit...” We do warfare by praying in tongues whenever we can, i.e. driving, cleaning the house or mowing the lawn. Don’t waste the time with idle thoughts but think about God and let Him pray through you whenever possible. Eph 5:16 “Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

I love watching you both so much! 💕🙏 Thank you. Please keep the conversations going! Victoria, I love your humour. The predictions that happened in the church sound a bit dodgy though. I thought that prophecy always brings us back to the Word and God, and just using it to make random predictions sounds more like the occult. I was in the new age for twenty years, so while I believe I’m the gift of prophecy, I would only do it if God actually gave me a message, without me ‘asking’ for it, rather than doing an exercise in the church where you are actively seeking the gift, just for fun it seems.

Love this interview! Always love the sharing of these two! In the Bible, God is always the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob because that's the line of the Chosen People, as the Muslim god is the God of Abraham, Ishmael and Esau (Edom); also the covenant and salvation was promised to Jacob and line of Judah... However, whenever the Bible talks about the children of God, it's always "Children of Abraham" only, because God also loves Muslims and wants the Muslims to be saved too. (My personal take). Anyway, really hope to see more shows from Victoria and Becket!
