♥ The Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary website: www.wildspiritwolfsanctuary.or... ♥
This is (mostly) Dakota, a Wolf from the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in Ramah, New Mexico. ♥ VISIT wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org/v... TO LEARN HOW YOU CAN MEET DAKOTA, TOO! :) ♥
He loves people, and he especially loves beards... that's why he attacks John so much. xD
He greets people by jumping on them and licking their face... this is why the camera goes crazy in the beginning. I'm only 5 feet tall, so he was definitely bigger than me, and he knocked my glasses off. xD
***EDIT: Thank you, everyone, for over 5 million views!! :D
ಠ_ಠ A lot of questions in the comments can be answered by simply browsing & reading the website that I linked. But since this is too difficult for a lot of people, I've copied and pasted a block of text from their "About" section:
♥ "Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary has been incorporated since 1994, received its 501(c)3 IRS status and USDA licensure in 1995 and is now recognized as one of the most experienced sanctuaries for wolves and wolf-dogs in the country.
♥ The Sanctuary houses over sixty captive-bred wolves and wolf-dogs, most of who were rescued from abusive or neglectful situations. Since the animals were raised in a captive situation, they do not possess the skills necessary to survive in the wild and cannot be released. We offer lifelong care to all of our residents.
♥ We strive to create the best environment possible for our animals. The Sanctuary is located in the high-desert mountains of western New Mexico providing plenty of trees and hills for our animals to explore in enclosures ranging from 5000 square feet to one acre. All of our wolves and wolf-dogs are offered only the best diet, vitamin supplementation, and medical care available.
♥ We understand the importance of education and strive to teach the public the truth about wolves. We travel around the state and nearby areas with our Ambassador Wolf to meet people at events and classrooms. On-site tours allow people to better understand our mission and why sanctuaries like ours are necessary.
♥ Wild Spirit is a non-profit organization who is almost entirely supported by private donations. Through animal sponsorships, memberships, and other donations, our members are the backbone to the Sanctuary's survival. Any contribution to our cause is an extraordinary gift to our animals."
♥♥♥♥♥ If you can help these wonderful people and wolves out, please donate HERE: www.wildspiritwolfsanctuary.or... ♥♥♥♥♥ THANK YOU!!! :)

Well if they don’t get enough exercise as well will make them aggressive and they do need a pack as well. Human will simply not be able to give it what a pack can. They need a minimum of an acre to roam in.

At least until they decide to turn feral and actually eat your face off. Until then, their overgrown puppy dogs. It's too bad wild wolves can't be so easily tamed; then they wouldn't be an endangered species, they'd be living side by side with dogs.

Heard a story about a wolf sanctuary that did tours like this and they would start out the tour by asking the women "if you're pregnant do you want to know today?" Because apparently wolves can sense the hormonal changes in pregnant women and will generally be more cautious and careful around them all the while jumping and playing with everyone else. They started asking that question at the start of the tour because one tour a keeper approached a woman and ask when she was due and it started a fight with the boyfriend...

You might not be giving yourself enough credit. I don't know anything about you but if you're reasonably fit and not tiny, you should be able to take a wolf in a fight to the death. I know I could take the wolf in this video. Sure it would injure me but I would dominate it. All it has is a mouth. I have 2 hands, 2 arms, 2 legs. I can easily prevent it from fighting, hold it in place and choke it out, but it wouldn't be likely to go that far. Canines know when they're beaten and prefer to surrender.

@@Jagar_Tharn weird flex but ok. Also, no, you cant take on that wolf. You say that all it has is its mouth but you are forgetting that it has a very strong bite force and it also has CLAWS. Not to mention that wolves are bigger than you think they are. They are 6 feet long from snout to tail and males on average can weigh up to 180 pounds of pure solid muscle. Maybe you can put a normal street dog in a chokehold but if you try that with a wolf it will bite your arm off, and then your face. Oh not to mention that a lot of them could be rabid, and their bite would be 15x more potent than other rabid animals. Trust me a wolf can and will kick your ass, especially if its hungry

X The reason they are misunderstood is because humans project our hunting practices onto them. Animals attack because they are threatened or are looking for food. They don't attack for no reason. So if a bear/wolf attacks you in the wild, you can guarantee it is because you trespassed in its territory, or because you have food and it is hungry.

Yeah... bears are kinda just too big for humans though. A human can kinda go toe-to-toe physically with a wolf if absolutely needed. And that helps to establish dominance, which is important in the pack mentality of dogs. Bears just straight-up out-class most humans in terms of physical force. If a bear is having a bad day and decides to take it out on a human, there’s not much the human can do about it except try to run, and that doesn’t help the relationship much. Still, I’ve seen people living with both. So it isn’t impossible. Just more difficult in the case of the bear.

@timsomethin6730
@timsomethin6730 10 жыл бұрын
JuliusAkavirius Good combination. Two legged travel is more energy-efficient than four leg travel and humans have a number of sweat glands in their skin that most animals can't compete with, so a human can keep walking-jogging until a deer would build up too much body heat and collapse and risk coma and possibly death. The main method for a four legged prey to survive the human that it cannot match in endurance is to run faster than us and get lost out of sight before it needs to hide and rest. Humans have the stamina to make the prey an easy catch if the wolves can use their great noses to make it not possible for the prey to lay down somewhere and hide.

+Mercedesbergerking They do so as a caution. Back when humans themselves were pretty feral and wild, they had no trouble establishing personal dominance over some wolves who ventured near camps for scavenging bits of the hunt. These were the ancestors of dogs. And even then most packs of wild wolves posed a threat just like any predatory animal. A hungry wild wolf pack would hunt and kill a lone human or two without hesitation. As humans became more civilization bound, this difference only widened. The risks of trying to "tame" wolves, became more vivid in the minds of the relatively civilized human. And for good reason. A wolf born and brought up in the wilds with no prior human contact is a wild predator, an animal with killing instincts. Going near such a creature is risky business. These wolves in the video seem a little habituated to humans, so it isn't much of an issue.

+Mercedesbergerking Wolves in the wild are little different than the ones in this video. Those legends and myths are actually based on truth. One things wolves have been known to do is lure domestic dogs out their area by having one of the pack members walk into the yard like he wants to play, and then run and let the dog chase him to where the rest of the pack is waiting.

+Sultan AlHori To be honest some places it is illegal to own a wolf. If you happen to live in the US, some states is it illegal to do so. Others though you require a permit, A large fenced in area similar in size to a field for plenty of space to roam, You must be around them almost all the time. If you actually read into the life of a wolf you will find they are pack animals, and if you own a wolf it will come to see you as a member of the pack. now, a wolf hybrid, or wolfdog are similar, but are more legal to own here in the US. First thing is first, you need to learn more about them, then check the laws of your country or State(If you live in the US) to see if it is legal for you to get a license to own one. Getting a license to own one isn't as easy as a driver's license. If you have already done all this, check online. I found one site a while back that sold wolf pups for hundreds of dollars to thousands depending on age and other factors. Hope this helps

No, if you ever encounter a wolf in the wild, do not let them lick your teeth, keep your distance and more appropriately, leave. The wolf in this video was most likely bred in captivity. And I'm aware that just because it's bred in captivity it doesn't make it domesticated and it's still in fact a wild animal. Just do not take Konstantinos advice is all I'm saying. Terrible advice.

kaelyn addison Yeah, that's the thing I've heard about wolves. If you gain their trust, especially when they're still a little pup, you essentially become part of their pack, and they are incredibly loyal and protective. That's something about wolves I really admire. However if you're a stranger, or "outside the pack" they innately distrust you and will tear you to pieces if you get too close to their territory. I know someone who had a wolf hybrid who was 98% timberwolf and 2% German Shepherd or something, and he was just a giant lap dog for her, but one time one of her old neighbors went into the backyard where the wolf dog was and the man was lucky to get out alive. That's why when she got pregnant, she had to find a new home for her Wolfy as she was afraid he'd be dangerous towards the new family member.

Why is anyone even complaining about this? I am highly against certain animals being kept in captivity, but this is good for these wolves/wolf-dogs in particular. This sanctuary is doing an amazing job, and no one really has the right to complain or argue against that. The animals are healthy, and from what I've seen in the video they are happy and content. Please, use your time on actually arguing against bad places. In the description it states that most of these animals were rescued. If they were born captive, or taken as young by whoever had them at first, they are not fit to survive in the wild, and these people are doing the best that they possibly can to make their lives good.
