The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom review/first thoughts is an upcoming 2023 action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), Tears of the Kingdom retains many aspects of its predecessor, including the open world environment of Hyrule, which has been expanded to allow for more vertical exploration.the protagonist of Tears of the Kingdom, is joined by Zelda and is opposed by a malevolent force that seeks to destroy Hyrule.
Tears of the Kingdom was conceived after ideas for Breath of the Wild downloadable content (DLC) had exceeded its scope. Its development was led by Nintendo's Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) division, with Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and producer Eiji Aonuma reprising their roles. A teaser for the game was shown at E3 2019 with a full reveal at E3 2021. Tears of the Kingdom was initially planned for release in 2022 before being delayed to May 2023.

Next gen visuals really do a lot of the heavy lifting for the majority of developers in capturing your imagination. This games scope, scale, style, creativity and attention to detail are in another league from everyone else. Quite possibly the best game ever made.

Agreed. I do agree that the graphics feel lacking due to the switch hardware but even with a few moments of slowdown (I must be lucky idk I know others have had issues with framerate but it’s only happened to me a few times so far) but as you say the gameplay and world itself just gives me a feeling I miss about games. Like I told my older brother (who got me into Zelda when I was little) I will mess up on a puzzle with the physics and usually I would get frustrated but here in totk it just feels so natural have so many possibilities. I can’t say it feels like the best game of all time but I do agree it should be considered one of the best. I just love the freedom in the game. Honestly I’m one who tries to do the story before side quests and I just can’t do it I keep seeing things I want to check out lol. The ultra hand. Fuse with the weapons and ascend just add so much to how you play the game compared to breath of the wild love ya.

@exvalos6402 That’s my issue with Nintendo at this point. They’re 2.5 console generations behind already. I was hoping that there’d be an upgraded Switch released with TotK, but no. Nintendo has really lost me over the past 3-4 years. They’re just as lazy as EA at this point. I’ll play this game but there’s no way it’s competing with any modern open world RPG. 5 or so hours into it and it's simply mind blowing. BOTW was and still is my favorite game of all time, I can't wait to finish TOTK and see where it stands! I think we've indeed reached the apex of graphics for the system and yes they recycled the sound bits from BOTW but it all feels right and organic as this is a direct sequel to it. The gameplay and physics are off the charts and so is the world-building.

It's BOTW second quest. It's the same game. Just everything again with different abilities. The Ultrahand makes 99% of the game design obsolete, you can cheat any dungeon, puzzle, everything. No chest is worst anything. The main quest is ok, but the World gets old fast.

Love all your videos, Johnny! I look forward to them every Sunday. Binging your channel and watching my fav episodes over and over last year got me through a very rough year. Especially the episodes with Rob and friends. I loved the one where Andrew's brother told the origin story of Phantasy Star and the epic camping road trip to get it. Man those were simpler times, weren't they? Anyway, I can't get into zelds on switch. Too puzzle heavy for this guy. I like a little puzzle but not that much. I was definitely looking forward to your review of it though because I love hearing your passion and excitement. Also, your story of your rough year helped me a lot as well because of your honesty and willingness to he open and show weakness. I needed all the help I could get last year. I'm glad things got better for you and they're slowly getting better for me too. A grateful fan,

The beauty of this game is that every direction is the right direction. I've played over 10 hours so far and I have done nothing except get lost in Hyrule (in a good way). No doubt in my mind this will wind up becoming solidified as one of the greatest games of the decade! Also, want to mention that this game took botws idea of "if you can think it you can do it" to a whole new level. The fuse ability is singlehanded the most impressive thing about this game so far. The fact that everything meshes together so nicely is unbelievable from a technical perspective. I would've loved this game to be on hardware with more horsepower but I'm genuinely impressed with how well the switch is doing. This game is the perfect sequel so far because it's familiar enough coming into it but also the formula has been expanded on in many good ways. Excited to see what else this game has in store!

You can cheat 99% of the game with Ultrahand and zonai capsules. It's almost ridiculous. You can also skip 99% of the game. Nothing is really worth to get. It's absolutely better than BotW so far. I loved BotW, but it had a good amount of things that I didn't like. The enemy variety was atrocious. I'm only like 10 hours in TotK and I've seen almost as many new enemies that I saw in all of BotW. Even just small things like being able to drop an item out of your menu when you open a chest is an upgrade. I wish you could fuse more than one arrow at once, and I wish you could fuse weapons in the menu. Besides those very small nitpicks, the game absolutely rules.

I have a weird approach to the BOTW/TOTK style of gameplay. Once I'm out of the main area, I literally run around the whole world and hit every tower to unlock the map, while unlocking fast travel on shrines during and after the process. Basically, I'm making it so that I dont get lost and so that fast travel to various points is always accessible. Then I'll do as many shrines as I can to beef myself up, as I love doing all the puzzles one after another. Then I usually resource hunt for a bit, then start tackling the main story/main dungeons. Then I clean up with any shrines and side missions I've missed before finishing the game. I wonder if anyone else plays in a similar way, or if it's just me 😅
@needlesandsonics5819
@needlesandsonics5819 Жыл бұрын
Lol that’s what I’ve been doing. Getting every tower I can see unless it’s in too inhospitable weather, find the stables, shrines (not doing them just setting the fast travel), and towns. Then go out and get as many materials as I can for use and sale. I don’t know where I’ll go next I’m having a lot of fun fighting in this game because it’s not as easy as it was in BOTW. Probably start some quests if I don’t get distracted.

Coupled with the comprehensive physics system it makes this world so believable. I've never felt so immersed in a video game, amazing attention to detail. I'm going to be the antagonist here, sadly. Well, not really. I don't hate the franchise, it's just that it moved on without me 30 years ago ever since OoT. I tried and couldn't get into BotW either. 3D Zelda as a whole never worked for me. Of course, I respect the franchise and I'm glad it's still delivering what people want. That fusion mechanic is impressive, to say the least. My GOTY will likely be Diablo IV or FFXVI but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be Diablo. Time will tell. Hope you enjoy Tears of the Kingdom, people!

I'll admit I didn't have the highest expectations going into it. I didn't think they could make a game as good as BotW. This game is an absolute masterpiece. It is mind blowing. There is no other game ever that can match the puzzle solving in this one. This is easily game of the year. I thought BotW was the best game ever made. I haven't played it long enough, but I'm getting the feeling that TotK may actually be better.

It remind me on how I felt when Baldur’s Gate 2 was released (yeah I am that old). It was an improvement, and better in all parts, but the first feeling of WOW wasn’t there. This is the same. Baldur’s Gate saga is my nr 1 gaming experience of all time and BotW is a close second. With TotK released, it may become my favorite saga. The new one is massive and so far, about 15 hours in, it is increadible. The one thing I do need to say that gets overlooked of all the things you can do, the story is just magnificent. The scenes just blows me away. The reviews are correct.

For one reason and another (too long and complicated for here), I did not get that far into BOTW… would you say that it would spoil things to play TOTK without having finished or at least out a great deal of time I to BOTW? I want to crack on with TOTK but don’t want to miss out or spoil a BOTW experience at some stage in the future… thoughts?

I could not pick my jaw up off the floor through the first few hours. The opening sequence gave me chills, and the constant introduction of new elements blew my mind. It's crazy to think that Nintendo just released a game that makes Breath of the Wild look like a proof of concept, or tech demo. Now I just need to remember that ascend exists.

Happy for all the Zelda fans out there. But as I thought with BOTW, I think this is one for the Nintendo fan boys. It's not as good as the hype unfortunately and all this stuffs been done elsewhere but better. Its slow, your weapons break too easily and it just becomes a bore.
