Harbor Freight 5 ton electric log splitter ran by 2 Harbor freight predator 2000 generators using the parallel kit. To far for an extension cord so I used 2 predator 2000 generators to power the 5 ton log splitter. After attempting to use 1 generator the log splitter would trip the circuit quick. Purchased the parallel kit along with 30 amp to 15 amp pigtail, then had no issues with power.

I was waiting for you to put that big piece on it and you never did! Glad I fast forwarded and did not waste my time watchin you split dinky wood!

Thanks for watching. This was for my elderly parents that only split the dinky wood. The large chunks were too large to lift and had to use the splitting maul.

I saw your reply to me, thanks, and I understand about too big! I got an old house site where the house was torn down and they cut all the trees down, then later cut them up and put up signs, free wood! I went there twice, got all that I could lift, but heck, I am 74 years old and not gonna throw my back out with huge rounds, so most of it is still waiting there. I keep looking to see if they come back and cut some of it up into shorter, and lighter, rounds! HA HA

Bought one last year, and love it !! Be sure and snug up the bolts, some were loose and vibrated out, stripping their seats, and wouldn't re-seat. Took it back to HF and they gave me a new one. This year, I'll add a foot switch to the control box, so I don't have to hold the button.

Thank you for watching. HF is pretty good to work with on replacement. I had a solar panel that wasn't working out of the box and they replaced, no questions asked. The foot switch is a great addition.

Picked up one of these at HF for about $250 a couple of years ago. No generator; I split near the home woodpile and just use a long extension cord. First thing I did was to mount the thing on a 2x12 and attach large wheels to it--I don't care to work crouching in the mud. Remember to open the vent before using it--otherwise you could blow out the seals. Always work from one side, not from directly behind--get the wrong piece of wood and it will shoot out. It's not fast, but at my age, neither am I. Beats the hell out of wrestling a big gas-powered model around. I consider it to be a good deal. But I'm not throwing away my mauls and wedges, either.

Thank you for watching. Yes, there are a few things I would change such as the wheels. It is pretty easy to roll around but if you are on uneven ground it wants to tip over side to side. I plan on making a platform in my normal wood shed with electricity. I am with you, I still have my maul for the larger pieces.

@@starlightsunsets Thanks for the tip about a foot pedal--I've ordered one and it will make work a lot easier. Good-quality cast-aluminum 250V/15A rated ones can be had off of that auction site shipped for about $25. If you're interested in a good maul, I really like the Fiskars 8 lb splitting maul. Very long handle and interesting head design--much easier to use than my old-school mauls. Happy splitting!

I have one of theese called Grass Hopper, it has additional legs and wheels so it's a bit higher and you can stand next to it and operate. Definetly better then an axe especially when dealing with not seasoned wood. Logs can really shoot out of it when you are not careful, unit should be operated from rear left so you're not in the line of sight. May seem slow but worth every buck. If you get the idea how to operate it, it's realy quite fast (returning piston management)

Yes, after I figured out the movement of the wedge it was pretty quick. I am making a stand and foot pedal for it where I normally split wood to make it easier and safer. This pile happen to be where the company that dropped the tree in the yard was piled. First experience with electric because I won't split a lot each year so I could not justify the cost of a gas at the time. Thank you for watching.

@@CountryboyCale Thank you for watching. I am sure that 30 ton is a log splitting beast. I will never split anything that would justify going that large.

@@starlightsunsets I own a fire wood business and sometimes 30 tons won’t cut it. Literally and figuratively. We have had log 40” across that we have to pick up with the tractor and it’ll cut through them like butter but we had a log a couple years back that was 13” in diameter with a knot the size of a football. The knot stopped the blade and shut the engine off. The log was splitt the next go around though
@starlightsunsets
@starlightsunsets Жыл бұрын
@@CountryboyCale Yes I have had a couple nasty knots in the smaller would that will stop this splitter as well. I had to turn them around and kind of getting a running split on it. I still have some of this wood left unsplit and will be interested in see difference in splitting the seasoned wood compared to that green wood. Good luck on your wood business, seems like good business when you see bundles of 6-7 sticks in front of gas station for $7-$10.

It depends on how the log is set up on the electric log splitter I had one leaked oil everywhere and kept locking up its not ment for huge stumps but as he said for camp fire wood it works wonderful but I used it and did like 6 cords and I had all kinda of issues I even set up on a table
@starlightsunsets
@starlightsunsets Жыл бұрын
Yes, for the smaller wood it worked great. Sorry to hear you had issues with you splitter. The larger logs wood split but the wedge was not large enough and would have to run through then flip the log. But 90% of what I split is smaller diameter and only takes one pass. Thank you for watching.

How did it do on that big wood?
@starlightsunsets
@starlightsunsets Жыл бұрын
I was doing this by myself and could not lift them onto the splitter so I used a splitting maul to split in half then used the electric splitter. It worked well on the halves. I don't believe it would have split them in half on one pass because the blade would not have been tall enough. You would just have to work it around and split the other side to get it in half.

Thank you for watching. I have a tractor now that I can lift that size and will show another video this fall.

6 tons or pressure is why it split that wood log

These e-splitter can kick a log up that hits you right in the mouth. It happened to me. The ramrod slipped off just as it was splitting. The wedge shot the log back into operator's face. (Me). It split my lip bad but I didnt lose any teeth. Beware...they set you up for it with the damned safety switch arrangement. In a word...OUCH.
@starlightsunsets
@starlightsunsets Жыл бұрын
You are correct the safety switches makes it hard to get away from the bounce. Someone in this thread placed a link to another channel showing how to install a foot pedal to run the power switch. I show in this video how to place the log on the machine if the end is uneven cut. But even that still seems sketchy with your face close to the splitter. Thank you for watching.

Why not buy a gas powered splitter? the cost of two gens and the electric splitter have got to be high. not to mention the fuel cost....
@starlightsunsets
@starlightsunsets Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. There is electric in the woodshed. I had not moved the pile to the splitting area and just wanted to see if the generators would run the splitter. I did find out one Predator 2000 will not run the splitter and had to use 2 with parallel kit. You are correct though, all the equipment came up to about $1,000.

The only logs you split are little twigs we all know it can do, that would easily be split with a splitting axe... why didn't you grab something bigger? B.S. review here...
