One more handle modification method that enables the Harbor Freight 500 lb. Lift Cart to accommodate pinball machines.
In saying "hinged boat coupling", I meant to say "hinged boat rail coupling". Sorry for any confusion that may have caused!
Lift cart can be found at:

I'm amazed at how many people move pinball machines around.

I just purchased mine to move a few slot machines while flooring my game room. Caught your vid while seeing if anyone else has used this for those larger upright (350lb?) machines? I also have a Blacknight 2000 pinball. I used the large Teflon sliders under each leg. Worked well for my needs. This is a great idea. Thanks!

This has pushed me over the edge. I am buying this cart now.. Been thinking about it for years, but never liked the advice of "just bend the handle.. Thanks! Great solution!

Get the warranty. I've had multiple issues with the hydraulics as have many others. Use the crap out of it early and be aware of thentime you have to return it. These carts are awesome..... when they work correctly.

@@badsirivan Hmm.. yeah - OK thats good advice.. HF pretty good about taking returns / Warranty claims in store? I've never tried to return anything to them..

@@SteveJones172pilot I have no experience with that myself..... but I'm about to. I didnt get the warranty with this cart, so when the cylinder failed I was left with a useless hunk of metal. I was so happy with it while it was working correctly that I bought another with the warranty. The one I most recently bought doesn't stay in an up position with a load on it. I discovered this problem earlier in the week and just haven't been able to get over there to make a swap. I anticipate being able to do that early this week and will share my experience accordingly. Problems with these carts are very common but I've also seen accounts of many a satisfied customer.

Brilliant idea and great use of something never intended for that purpose.

The only cautionary tale is when making the cut, measure EVERY game at it’s lowest point they can vary. I just picked up a new Beatles and it was quite short buy (2) cuts did the trick. Great hack.

Thanks for the idea, worked like a charm! 21" is too hight for newer pins. I made my cut at 15" from floor.

I will see about editing in a lower height recommendation. I only collect EMs so wasn't aware of the cabinet differences. Thanks for the feedback!

Awesome idea! But how does it handle pulling those heavy machines with the handle only being held in by those little Allen key set screws? I feel like if you pulled hard enough the top part would just pull out.
@badsirivan
@badsirivan 4 жыл бұрын
I don't typically ever touch the cart when moving a pin. I simply guide the machine holding the outside edges of the lockdown bar.

You knee cap yourself by cutting the handle at all. try taking the legs off and while using the cart and then set it down so you can tilt it up on it's back. Those stubby cut offs will not let you. Try moving the pinball over a door threshhold, you will have to lift and tug on the bar, not the sides of the lockbar as you will just move the pinball around on the cart but not over any obstacles or up and down any incline. simply pull the handle out and drill a couple holes in the handle and attach heavy duty hinges. That will allow you to rotate the handle flat and also allow you to pull on the handle without fear of it slipping out from the set screws.

Thresholds certainly were among my first issues to contend with. I've found it quite easy to get over them by pulling with the pump lever. I do have to crouch pretty low to pull that off and some may find that uncomfortable or even not be able if they have physical limitations..... but I have yet to shove any machine off the cart. Good that you mentioned that, though. Thanks!

@@badsirivan How do you deal with lowering the pinball down once you remove the legs so that you can get it off the cart when you have those cutoff handles under there?
@badsirivan
@badsirivan 2 жыл бұрын
@@softsavvy I slide the machine back back as far as it will go. It sits just fine and there is just enough clearance to drop it all the way down. A few times I have also had to make minor sideways adjustments for plungers and other protrusions. As I mentioned elsewhere, I only collect EMs. Might be a different story with the different sizes of solid state machines.

@@badsirivan yep, a standard pinball will flip backward if you have the lift pulled that far forward
@badsirivan

@@softsavvy Respectfully, Rick.... I've moved over 35 machines this way since I cut the handle and, as I said, never flipped a machine. There were some that gave me the urge keep slight pressure on the near end of the machine as they did reach a point where they would rock if I did it intentionally.... but always solid enough for the seconds that it takes to lower it and stand it up.

Sorry.... not sure what you want a link to. I have just added in the description to both the lift cart and the boat rail couplings that I used. Is either of these what you were seeking?
