*Worked perfectly right out of the box **MyBest.Tools** a nice compact bench bandsaw, that will work with 1/4 to 1/2 inch blades! First use was a joy, better quality than I expected for the price ! ! !*

About it being heavy to move around, try this. I just bought this saw after my old saw broke. It is heavy to move with the bow in the down position. Lock the bow up at appx. 45° and grab the handle on the bow with one hand and the lower handle with the other hand. It is much easier to pick up and move this way as it shifts the weight to the back more and makes it easier to lift and control.🙂

The lower the tooth count per inch the bigger solid metal you can cut without the metal curling up and clogging the blade before it comes across the entire piece. I cut at work 16" solid rods all day long with blades that have 2-3 teeth per inch, and they cut beautifully.
@070basemetal
@070basemetal 4 жыл бұрын
Correct. Also, feed speed can be lowered so cutting small stock with a low tooth count is no problem when only cutting a few pieces and not worth changing to a higher TPI blade. Of course, cutting aluminum with a "wood blade" should be perfectly acceptable too, pretty sure this guy decided his intuition was good enough to go ahead and put an educational video on the internet.

I purchased this saw last year and it is great for the money. Get the extended warranty and they say you can return it in 2 years and get it replaced, no questions asked. So I set a calendar reminder. As far as the blade it came with, 6tpi, it's good for solid metal stock. I purchased a Lenox 4/6 bi-metal with a Raker Tooth Set and I cut through 4 pieces of 1-1/2" round hot roll bar at a time in less than 3 minutes. I have a 14tpi blade that I use for .060 tubing. The thicker the metal, the fewer tpi. My 2c worth.

I picked one up yesterday, and have mixed feelings. Mine was built to the green machine specs but was painted in the new color scheme. I really wanted that magnetic switch, metal tank, built in handle and flex nozzle... but nowhere local has the new new one in stock. It's still a good value compared to buying another brand, but damn. I didn't know this variant was an option. I only poked a hole through the box at the store to make sure it wasn't the green one. Now that the hired help is gone, and the rented truck returned, I'm kind of stuck with it without a hefty reinvestment.

Both saws are gravity feed. The hydraulic cylinder is simply a gauge to control the arm descent . The low tpi blade works fine due to the fact that the hydraulic cylinder gauges descent, keeping the low tpi blade from plunging into the metal. Great saw for the money.

All of these China horizontal bandsaws are the same. I've owned a Turn-Pro and Enco 7x12 in my metal shop for smaller cuts. I have different TPI blades on each for quickly cutting different material. The Turn-Pro is 18 years old and the Enco is 15 years old. Both have cut, literally, tons upon tons of metal. Good machines for the $.

correction to my earlier comment: I just bought one of these. The local HF team had a few, and they were nice enough to peek in the box and make sure it was a gray one. So I got that one, as the other ones they had were green. I now have it home, and it is *the old style*, even though it's grey. So, you can't go just by color. :(

More Tools Than Talent - This is what I was saying in my comment as well. They are really using trickery to get rid of the last of the old ones. Probably under a contract with their supplier to purchase a certain amount of the green/changed color units. They have to move those first.

Isn't the new one still just a gravity feed with a hydraulic limiter? There's no pump creating pressure from what I can see, it's just a ball valve in line between the intake/output of the cylinder. So gravity is still doing all the work.

Your material that you are cutting determines the pitch of your blade, I use a 6-10 to cut aluminum all the time!! Make sure you have as many teeth in contact with the material as possible. Thin material like tube needs to be cut with fine tooth pitch blades. Get yourself some cutting wax that will help with the aluminum clogging the blade.

For what you paid for that saw, you got a lot of features that are to be appreciated. Complaining about the packing crate it came in and the saw blade is the question. What did you expect? With a little bit of effort you could remove those jaws and flatten/square them on sandpaper 3M tacked to a piece of glass. It would be simple to make a jig to hold them square for the sanding process. I do this with old Stanley hand planes to clean and square up the bodies. Or, if you don't want to mess with that, have a machinist flatten and square them up on a mill (if you have a mill yourself, well...)

6 TPI blade is not "stupid". You should not have more than 10 teeth in the material you are cutting. If you are cutting 2" solid stock, 6 TPI is still pushing too many teeth.

so what blade would you recommend for a guy who will be cutting automotive materials i.e. stainless exhaust tubing, aluminum intake tubing, maybe titanium tubing from time to time?

I actually haven't used any yet, I'm just lazy and squirt some WD-40. I rarely cut steel and it's usually pretty small. It chows right throw aluminum with a small squirt of the good stuff.

It's not even remotely tippy when vertical. It would take quite a bit to knock it over when it's vertical. It's quite solid.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but you can skip past parts that aren't relevant to you. At the time of this comment, the video has 62K views. Maybe you're not the only one watching and someone else wants to know what's involved in getting in unboxed (in case they don't have any help in the shop, have a hard time lifting something, or want to know how easily damaged it could get in shipping).

Hello. My advice is always the same. Go to a couple events and see what it's like in person. Then find a local event that you can attend and build something small. Start with an antweight or beetleweight. Starting with a 100lb robot is a VERY bad idea, you will waste a lot of time and money. Just start small.

That bandsaw looks OK, but --- I have a very low opinion of anything sold by H.F. Very poor quality products all made in China. Some products made in China can be very high quality, but the good stuff is not sold by Harbor Freight, they sell crap.
@RobertCowanDIY
@RobertCowanDIY 6 жыл бұрын
I challenge you to find a product that's made entirely NOT in China. Do you have a phone, TV, microwave, etc? All of these are made in China, and if they aren't, they are only assembled elsewhere and the raw materials are from China. China is NOT the problem, properly communicating and documenting quality control procedures are the problem. The iPhone and many other higher end electronics (or at the very least, the chips that power them) are made in China. Harbor Freight has earned a bad reputation for poor quality in the past. HOWEVER, lately they have made great strides in increasing their quality. This is not across the board, but on certain lines and products. The US General tool cabinets come to mind. Some of their hand tools are actually VERY high quality for the price. Having a blanket opinion about everything a specific store carries can be problematic because there are always exceptions. I much prefer my HF tool cabinets over the others I have owned and have since replaced them all with HF, because they were MUCH nicer. You say that some products made in China are quality, but others aren't, but apply a blanket statement to everything at HF. At least give them the benefit of the doubt that at least some of their products are really decent. The upgrades that have been made to this version of the bandsaw aren't found on the other variants and all feel very quality and make it at least feel better engineered than some of the others that sell for quite a bit more. There are several products at HF that are far from crap, and are actually some of the best values on the market right now. I work heavily in supply chain and manufacturing, and the hardest part is setting up a reliable supplier and the processes needed to create a consistent product. Once you accomplish that, it's quite easy for a company with a large market share to produce a product that's high quality and consistent, while keeping costs the same. Raw materials are usually very cheap, it's the factory oversight that's tricky. Once you get big enough and move enough units, it's much easier to dial it in. At the very least, give some of their well-rated hand tools a try, you may or may not change your opinion. But the stuff you can get from them has changed drastically in the last 5 years or so.

Obviously your opinion... I need one of these band saws and was trying to assess which one would meet my requirements and if the more expensive one was worth paying so much more. Personally, I found this video to be extremely helpful in making that decision.
