in case anyone's wondering. when you use different batteries for tools they have a pin for temperature of the battery. the temp is measured with a thermistor and I BELIEVE its different for all tools. a thermistor basically just changes resistance based on the temp. I figured this out when trying to hook a Dewalt battery to a Bauer tool. anyways the Dewalt battery had a different resistance than the Bauer battery so what you can do is just solder a resistor in the tool (or battery) between negative and TH terminal. what resistor you use varies but for Bauer TOOLS I found that it has to be 12kohms exactly. not sure about Dewalt batteries but I tested it with a high resistance rating on a multimeter and it didn't show up.

Interesting enough to note, these are 3.7V cells x 10 giving them 37 volts total in series. Each row of 5 are connected in series to make 18.5v @ 2.5 Ah. When both "packs" of 5 are connected in parallel, the voltage stays the same, but the amperage is doubled to make 5 Ah. Now if they slightly changed the design of the casing to be 10mm wider, they could fit 12 25500 3.2 volt 5000 mAh cells and have 19.2v at 10 Ah in nearly the same footprint. In a previous video, you said you were waiting for the class action lawsuit on the battery voltage, but it seems HFT isn't the only ones using 18.5 volt batteries if the Dewalt has 10 18650 cells too.

Thanks for your video. I too had shorted a Dewalt Battery. Based on your video, and the discovery at 3:40, I was able to solder in a piece of metal and fix the battery. Works perfectly now.
@jimover81275 жыл бұрын
What kind of solder did you use? I had a bad tool that shorted out 2 of my Dewalt batteries. Are there any precautions that should be taken doing this?
@BDMBPeter5 жыл бұрын
I used lead-free solder that I purchased from I Fix It Dot Com, but you could probably get it anywhere that sells solder. It was pretty thin and easy to work with. I cut the end off of a male spade wire connector, and used it as a jumper, soldering the piece of metal to both of the metal plates that had been separated. It has been holding up very well. The batteries charge and work perfectly. I didn't really take any precautions. My batteries were pretty much bricks without me attempting to fix them, so I wasn't too worried about something going wrong. Obviously be careful with the soldering iron, near combustibles and batteries, but other than that, it is a pretty simple thing to do.

abs + pc ..ABS / PC plastic sheet is a sheet of composite material on the basis of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) with a perfect blend of mechanical, thermal and rheological properties.and I think it's the perfect blend, for the battery case, because it's heat resistant and quite resilient.

@LabRat Knatz - Was thinking same but my Baure batteries are still providing long run times. Please let us know if you ever rebuild one of your Bauer packs with higher mAh cells.Side note... will be interesting to see if the Bauer control board will need to be fed low voltage before the main battery +/- are cut, in order to keep from bricking the control boards. SAMSUNG 25R cells In the Dewalt pack are able to dump 20amps. even more if they parallel them. 2500mah on capacity per cell. the bauer cells are 1500mah per cell but they have a discharge rating of 23amps, slightly beating the 25R in performance(on paper) to use the bauer tools with dewalt pack, you just need to file down a tiny nub on the pack, and they will work. most all makes of battery pack use a BMS built into the pack to balance the cells and cutoff low/high voltage.
@videopipeline64193 жыл бұрын
re: "most all makes of battery pack use a BMS built into the pack to balance the cells and cutoff low/high voltage." Most newer tools (i.e.: those that were never available with NiCad battery packs) have the overcurrent and over-discharge protection built into the tools, rather than the packs, leaving only the cell balance board in the pack. Ridgid & Ryobi 18v packs are the only mainstream brands with all those functions in the packs rather than the tools, and that's because they haven't changed their pack design since the NiCad days.
@northernlits4253 жыл бұрын
@@videopipeline6419 interesting, good too know. I based my previous statement speculatively after opening up a few packs, (Rigid, Ryobi and I thought a craftsman?) all of which had the mosfets ect for balancing+cutting power to-from the cells-tool
@videopipeline64193 жыл бұрын
@@northernlits425 One advantage to having the battery protection in the tool is that the overcurrent protection circuitry is cheaper for low-drain tools, but when everything is in the battery, it has to be sized for the largest tools. Also, the in-tool circuitry can be downstream of the main trigger switch, meaning there is no constant low-level drain from an always-on PCB (although in-pack PCBs probably go into a time-based sleep mode to help compensate). Lastly, I assume they figure that pro users will likely have more than one battery for each tool, whereas homeowners might be the opposite.
@northernlits4253 жыл бұрын
@@videopipeline6419 yea, now that i think about it, that makes sense. I'd consider Ryobi and craftsman home jobbers for sure. Rigid ain't a whole lot better

@@northernlits425 re: "Rigid ain't a whole lot better" That used to be true. Not anymore. Overall, Ridgid cordless tools are pretty close to Dewalt or Bosch. Only Milwaukee is consistently better. He should simply not wear a ring. The practice is motivated by superstition or style, neither of which makes sense to a scientifically minded person. And yes, sure, wrapping with electrically-insulating tape will protect the wearer from some dangers, but not from mechanical ones. The ring (unlikely though it may be) may catch on something and consequently rip the finger off. Plus, rings to a degree, inhibit movement that may be needed. Just don't wear them. Even if you are a female, don't wear them. The practice is not sensible. BTW, I've been in situations where, if I were wearing a gold ring, I would get an amputation. It happens.

My question is: why has NO ONE made a plug and play adapter that slides on a TOOL, and simply adapts the connections to a DIFFERENT BRAND BATTERY TO JUST PLUG IN? Simply a piece of plastic with both plug in formats (tool at top, battery at bottom) for any brand of tool, any common brand of battery. For example, after market 5 Ah B&D compatible 20v batteries are $44 on Amazon today - why not an off the shelf adapter that lets you just PLUG THEM IN to a DeWalt or other tool??? Basically all batteries just have a temp sensor besides the power connections... ---- "PC-ABS is a high-impact engineering thermoplastic ideal for functional prototyping, tooling and low-volume manufacturing. Get the best of two FDM materials, the strength and heat resistance of PC and the flexibility of ABS. PC-ABS also delivers excellent feature definition and surface finish."
