The SA50 in War Thunder is a French Sherman with a long 75mm cannon that can easily punch through 200mm of armour!
The M4A4 SA50 is basically an up gunned Sherman. However, what it has in penetration, it lacks with only having solid shot. That means you'll have to rely purely on the initial shrapnel or the path of the round to do the bulk of the damage.
As the French SA50 is a Sherman it its core, it shares the same mobility as earlier Shermans at a higher battle rating. It also has the same armour, making it really vulnerable to well placed shots on the hull. However, the SA50 has a really unique mantlet that doesn't reliably bounce incoming rounds, but it can!
Overall, the M4A4 isn't that special. Its reload rate lets it down compared to other M4's and the 200mm pen can be completely overkill for most things you'll shoot at. It's a great tank though, and pretty deadly in the right hands!

Im thinking of grinding UK ground for the Churchills and Firefly but it seems so tedious because early solid shots are doodoo, is it worth it? Im tired from grinding rank IV-V Germany so I play anything

I played it on Poland today and with my 190mm of pen I managed to set up on the way out of their spawn before they even left and killed ALL OF THEM (dirty I know, please forgive me) but needless to say it was a shitshow

I believe the French SA50 was derived from French examination of the Panther's 75L70. It's only a little bit longer (4 caliber-lengths or so) than the US 76mm, but seems to hit harder.

Honestly I don't mind because the matchmaking wan't historical anyways. You call American and Japanese prototype tanks fighting Swedish and Italian tanks tanks in Karelia while American and German planes fight overhead historical? Honestly gaijin. The only change was that now Americans can fight brits.

Personally I love the SA50 on long range maps, the zoom is incredible and the round makes it really easy to pen enemies at range, the reload doesnt matter too much since its long range.

It's better than a Firefly. The gun depression is inexplicably low at 10 deg down. And that solid shell is the best of all the French 75mm solid shots. The gun is based on the Panther 75mm so you know its gotta be good.

Don't worry dude. I take the tank out at 5.3 all the time and it still handles most enemies like a beast. Only regularly tricky one is Tigers.

Yeah, shell impacts are being really weird this update, sometimes those red direction indicators never show up, and even the smoke from the impact doesn’t show up, yet some other times it will. Its so strange
