Elden Ring, a veritable golden shower of video game splendour. It was 2022's Game Of The Year according to almost every panel - and is to date one of the biggest games ever made in terms of both scope and sales. How could we possibly intend to tackle such a big helping of game in just 25 minutes?
The answer? With a big mouth. Here in the Hard Drive Review, of ELDEN RING.
Hard Drive Reviews is a review series in which we are attempting to review a game whilst also never once using the words "good", "bad", or any of either words' countless synonyms. Should we make such a catastrophic mistake, a lifetime of shame shall befall our families and our children shall be cursed.
"Worst", "worse", "better" and other terms are relative terms by the way! And do not mean "good" or "bad" on their own and are thus fair game. Words with good or bad connotations do not equal words that *mean* good or bad.

When I bought Elden Ring, I was intent on beating every boss with no summons, no magic or any non-melee weapon, and no help from online guides. I got through the game without too much trouble, but after hour 7 of grinding the Melania, I took a break from playing. This video has given me the motivation to re-memorize dodging waterfall dance and return to the cycle of getting really excited after making it through most of the second phase with flasks to spare, only to get killed by an unreadable 0 to death combo.

18:00 Yes, not to mention when and npc says “Go North-East to find the guy who stole my necklace!” AND THE GUY IS NORTH-WEST TO THE LOCATION OF THE NPC! THIS EVEN HAPPENS IN A QUEST THAT HINTS HOW TO UNLOCK 2 ENTIRE PARTS OF THE MAP AND ONE OF THE MAIN BOSSES! HOW IN THE HELL DID ANYONE EXPECT A PERSON TO FIND THIS OUT WITHOUT A GUIDE?!

That problem of youtube thumbnails spoiling a game is getting real annoying. I like watching ragegaming’s pro and noob series, but like 3 days after a new monster hunter game comes out: boom video with drawing of final boss in the thumbnail

Congratulations, you have made me click on an elden ring video for the first time ever. This is the power of fudj. The discussion about spoilers does make me wonder why we put so much weight on the surprise aspect of a story, rather than just evaluating the execution of the story in retrospect. Also great pick with the dragon ball Budokai music

While I agree that there were issues with exploration and tracking certain events, your mindset with Malenia could've just as easily applied to those elements. I also struggle with wanting to comb over everything and miss as little as possible, but I know I could just choose not to. Just finding Malenia requires completing two optional and hidden areas, and then learning her fight, and that's a lot more dedication and effort needed than tracking down an NPC or something.

20:40 This same roll attack he can animation cancel to throw a fireball or do a thrusting attack with his sword and then immediately go back to rolling like nothing happened. So in a sense it's not even animation cancelling, it's animation pausing.

They actually fixed some of the npcs standing in random places by putting map markers for them. Doesn't help if you played the game early though lol

amazing video, man. cool point about zoologist / speedrunner dichotomy. i propose a middle ground: kinda-roleplaying mode™: - pick a character - define their vibe - think of their story - think of the build that suits them specifically - play whatever parts of the game you feel like - think of a kinda-reason why your gaming style fits them. e.g.: ★ "Asterius would never betray Sellen. in remembrance of her final sacrifice he uses That One Cool Spiral Spell to slay the Elden Beast" ◉ "and thus The Truth showed Herself to Antiochus and he saw The Flame. The Flame that will erase all that divides and distinguishes" ♡ "she is a samurai with many regrets, she is a demigod that is kinda to blame for the whole shitstorm. anything can happen" i vacuumed the whole game the first time around, and now i kinda know what's the deal with those people and where to find them. so now I can be more mindful about what my guy would do. like do i sneak ever or am i too noble / proud for that? do i fight dragons or do i love them so much it is painfully sad to kill them? do i even want to become a monarch by slaying so hard a God dies or something?

Fudj, you should really check out Pokémon Arceus yeah, its not gorgeous, but traveling around is so fun, especially the flying/gliding. It clearly had a breath of the Wild.

I agree with all of the points Fudj was making here in this video. I felt the game was starting to run out of gas around the mountaintops area too, but it felt like it still had a lot more good stuff to offer (it did for me). Also, yes, some bosses are just super bullshit. I went back to ds2 a bit for the new servers and the difference is incredible! all of the beginning bosses felt like a cakewalk compared to MARGIT. I can probably solo Fume Knight now. Also, Fudj, I'll help you with Malenia, you just gotta summon me bro

Malenia is severely overhyped. Get a good shield and a weapon with and good stagger and she's a cakewalk. Maliketh on the other hand is the hardest boss in FromSouls history.

I beat malenia. I think you just have a skill issue. And yes i did use the tools the game gave me to beat said boss. there is no reason not to unless you really hate yourself.
