The Plastic Surgeon is one of those items that makes you wonder how it got past the safety stage. I mean, I know knives are sharp and dangerous too, but that thing hits a snag and you push a bit harder right into your hand... ugh.. ive yet to buy the stuff hes highlighted, BUT, some of it has gone on /a list/ the thing about the infomercial space is that the products that exist there do so for a reason. theres always a quirk, or a trick, or some kind of angle they're attacking to break into an established market by hyperspecializing. most times its gimicky junk, but when its not, its often the best god damn thing that exists for solving one very specific problem. so certain things are always in the back of my head, waiting for the day i need to put in that next day delivery.

I figured that one company put their opener in the hard to open plastic to remind you that it’s the last time you ever need to open a package with difficulty.

With these packages, You're better off with pulling than pushing. I know you're always supposed to use sharp objects away from you, but the fact of the matter is, these packages are extemely sharp themselves. If you use a pushing tool and you slip, you will have a nasty cut. Pushing also gives a lot less control than pulling, making slipping in the first place more likely.
@jacobmiller8631
@jacobmiller8631 3 жыл бұрын
But slipping while pushing makes the tool move away from you, not at your body which you were pulling towards
@theBabyDead
@theBabyDead 3 жыл бұрын
@@jacobmiller8631 yes, which is why the electric one (which doesn't seem to require any force) is the superior tool. And although technically you are right, when you're doing something precise, you tend to cut towards yourself instead of away from yourself. When you're cutting towards yourself, you're already using caution so the chances of of actually stabbing yourself are seriously slim. You're not going to tell me you peel potatoes with the knife away from yourself... You can't do precise cutting that way. And, as I stated in my comment; pushing severely increases the risk of cutting your hands on the packaging. So it's a cut either way in this scenario. -- Note that this is a low-effort thing to cut. It's not like you're using force to cut it so the chances of actually slipping towards yourself are rather slim. Then again, most of these tools are stupid and dangerous anyway. Better off with scissors.
@jacobmiller8631
@jacobmiller8631 3 жыл бұрын
@@theBabyDead with that, either way you could cut yourself. The tool has a safety anyway. But me personally would rather have a small package slip and hit me gently then a tool with sharp blades, even with the safety. And doing precise cuts away from you is easy, if you’ve grown up doing it like that. I do peel potatoes away from myself, with a peeler. The right tool makes anything easier
@theBabyDead
@theBabyDead 3 жыл бұрын
@@jacobmiller8631 interesting. I don't know anybody who peels potatoes away from them haha. But I get your point and it's fair. I guess it's a point of priority. I've had cuts from those plastic packages on my hands and I'm very dependant on my hands, so having gigantic cuts on them (because they do get gigantic) can really hurt me. For example, I lost mobility in a finger because of it while I'm a musician. I guess I'm saying I'd much rather have a 1cm deep jab in my stomach than a 0.2cm big cut all over my fingers/hands... hahaha. But you do make a good point.

I've been opening up this kind of packaging for years and you don't need any of this new crap that's comming out. Save your money. All you need are a good pair of scissors. A lot of the people who open up these kind of packages get too excited to get them open and that's how they hurt themself by getting cut on the sharp plastic.
