Physio here. Definitely ask for a second opinion from a doctor or actually go see a physiotherapist for a full assessment including neurological screening. The milage you’re putting on your body has to pay its toll eventually, however, with a full assessment we could figure out what’s going on to help you get back to doing those 1s and 2s. If on the scan there is no serious pathology, ie disc bulge with canal stenosis, if I were make an educated guess (not medical advice in the slightest) of chronic lower back pain with radicular pain/radiculopathy (only if you’re feeling numbness or weaknesses in your legs). You need appropriate treatment but more so a thorough examination. Best of luck Adam

I've had a herniated disc about 10 times in my life and i'm 27. It started from a back injury when i was younger. This sounds like a partial herniated disc. It can happen after the amount of running you do. Always rest up and do not stretch. Give it 3-5 days and you'll be back in shape.
@TheNails3

@jxeh1442

You’d need an MRI scan to confirm the presence of a disc pathology. It sounds a lot like you have a radiculopathy (impingement of a nerve root by a disc). You are probably going to need to take a decent rest, significantly reduce the mileage and use painkillers for some time. Most of these issues take 3-12 weeks to resolve, but you need to modify the load to facilitate that. Things like stretching, massage and even exercises etc probably don’t make a huge difference in the scheme of things, but you can do them if they feel good.

could be a Sciatica nerve pain that won't show on x rays, can vary widely. It may feel like a mild tingling, dull ache, or burning sensation. In some cases, the pain is severe enough to make a person unable to move. The pain most often occurs on one side. Some people have sharp pain in one part of the leg or hip and numbness in other parts. Everything starts at your feet, and invest in good running shoes. It's up to you.

@@adamcathcart8519So people aren't allowed to hypothesize the cause of Russ' back pain to help Russ just because he isn't diagnosed by a professional? A hypothesis isn't a "diagnosis" as you put it but can be very valuable to narrow things down once he does see a professional. Just because you're a physio doesn't excuse yourself for being a butt for people trying to help in any way they can.

Stop eating foods like pizza, bread, and any other foods that cause inflammation as it's terrible for back pain (got rid of my hay fever like this as well).
