Mar.18 -- David Harding was a pioneer in quantitative investing. He built some of the first algorithms and started two hedge funds that generated double-digit returns for decades. Today, Harding is as certain as ever that he’ll find profitable new trades by using computers to identify and exploit patterns in financial data. The Winton Capital Management founder and chief executive officer speaks with Bloomberg's Erik Schatzker about the challenge for quants, competition and the search for new strategies.

Rise in Computation and clouds allowed to take the short term trades . Leverage is bring used for long and short call Quantitative investing will evolve as it is very competitive. Much of work is been done in agriculture futures markets using mathematical modelling and time series Future Trend following or momentum strategy still used which are systematic in nature Trending following using futures has been making money but cannot be reliable in futures .It needs to evolve Most of hedge fund manager success are characterised by return they generate rather than the aum they manage Most of return we generated recently do not justify the fees we charge Now how competitive hedge fund works does not mean it can be replicated by us as they scientists has research oriented Future is not determined Ai was brought in winton 35years back and using it made money .
