Honestly dpi/cpi deviation is a non-issue. Once you use a mouse enough, you customize your sensitivity until it feels right. How close 800dpi setting is actually close to 800dpi is irrelevant.

Yeah, seems like it would only be an issue if it's inconsistent on the same mouse. Like if CPI changes depending on how fast you move your arm. But it doesn't sound like that's what's happening. If it's *always* the same value, like -5% for example, then once you adjust to it then it shouldn't be an issue.

Asus has been one of the only companies in the mainstream that adopt swappable switches. The fact that this doesn't have that disappoints me to no end
@profosist
@profosist Жыл бұрын
in many cases the swappable switches made the mice worse, especially the case with the Gladius. The switch being physically higher up significantly contributes to additional pre and post travel of the switch. Also whats the advantage, especially since they have the screws under the mouse feet still!

i'm pretty sure you should keep the dpi and change your ingame sensitivity to what you like, rather than the other way around. Maybe keep it at 800 for a few weeks and tweak the ingame settings, see if you like it? Edit: my dpi is 3200 and i just turn it way down in game.

These mouse reviews are always nice but the one thing that I now look for in my gaming mice is the quality of the button switch, because every mouse that I've owned in the past 2 decades has worn out its button switch before anything else goes wrong with it. I'm talking 8+ mice. The only mouse I've found that has a new and unique switch is the SteelSeries Prime series. They invented a completely new type of switch that uses a real coil spring plus magnet and optical sensor. All other mice on the market (including Razer's optical one) use the antiquated "tiny thin piece of metal" that wears out fast. I can't look at any other mouse now--no matter how many interesting features they have--because they still use those awful old switches for the buttons. I know this sounds like a ad for SteelSeries but if anyone can show me another mouse that has a new type of switch that's designed not to fail, I would be happy to hear that.

Hey a lil bit late but i don't get what you mean. optical switches avoids double clicking. How did you destroy 8 mice's ? And could you explain that special sensor of the steelseries prime. I'm a mice enthusiast and never heard about the switch issue you are talking about. You live and you learn. Im maining a dav3 right now and x2 and knock on wood have no issues. Thanks for the info. It would be nice if you could give me more info about the steelseries prime as I'm a going to do some research about it and if I'm am convinced getting one. Have a nice day fellow micer. 🙏🦾🫡🐺

For that price (180$ in my country) they should include that mousepad with the mouse considering the mouse marked is becoming really competitive with offerings from Razer, Pulsar etc. That way they are really selling a complete package. Instead of buying the mousepad (40$) separate when most of us already have one or two mousepads we are already satisfied with (Artisan, LGG Venus Pro...). And personally I enjoy setting up my new mouse with DPI and gameplay. I've been doing it for years and it's basically muscle memory now. But maybe this would be nice for people trying out gaming and wanting to find their best settings? But then again, who would pay up to 200$ for that starting out?
@zephyr.r

@@zephyr.r I think you're kind of missing my point as I already mentioned most of us already got good mousepads. But if they want this mouse to compete with the rest of the market they could either include the mousepad since you already got a lot of accessories with the mouse, or lower the price. Especially considering 2023 will probably offer better mice for less money i.e. new models from Pulsar, Razer etc.

An interesting note from my Apex experience. I run R99 and usually firing range with it quite a bit. I've noted that if I have two mice at 800 dpi, the R99 sprays feel significantly different depending on the in game sens. And I ended up trying pro settings from pros using the G Pro X, Pros using the Razer Viper, and did seem to find that I could stay on target and beam easier with the right settings for the mouse? I.e. My aim gets thrown off target less when I run 1.0 in game + 800 dpi with the G Pro X, But with the Razer it's 1.5 + 800 dpi and 1.3 seems to be a bit more optimal for my random mice like the X2 and Xtrfy M8. The fact that 1.5 is high and razers dpi is probably higher, suggests to me that perhaps the interval of polling rate updates or the amount of change in position per update might affect recoil control

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't it typically better to have a much higher DPI setting on the mouse, giving your system more accurate "information" to work with and then just turn down the sensitivity in-game. For example people who study ergonomics find that about 1inch of mouse movement is optimal for moving the cursor from the left edge of the screen to the right edge. So if your screen is 2560x1440 the the "optimal" dpi would be about 2560.
@profosist

You are incorrect. Often mice are just making up information that is higher than their native range. Newish sensors cap at 1600. Something like the SteelSeries Rival 600 threw some of its top end away to be native up to 2400. Some of the latest sensors are supposedly native at all steps but are likely just using integer scaling (so its just a multiple of something lower or higher). This video from the launch of Logitech G still mostly holds up to this day. Look up "Logitech HQ: François Morier, Senior Engineer Explains Mouse Sensor" should be by on Tom's hardware channel

I've been looking at several mice lately that could replace my Steelseries Aerox 3 but without holes and could do the same thing (so internal battery, light weight, good shape for gaming but not tiring for productivity, and bluetooth for laptop use when I'm moving and not gaming) Not saying that the Aerox hasn't been good, it's been awesome, but there is definitely some quirks that are annoying as fuck, epecially the huge RGB defuser (that I don't use) that adds weight and traps the dust inside, and the scroll wheel which is a pain to clean. Also had to change the skates as the stock ones were really bad. Last thing was the fact that there was no housing for the USB dongle, and teh dongle itself was USB-C (???) so basically just use BT when you're out. This one is kinda pricey, but it seems to be the perfect fit ! Near identical shape, simpler scroll wheel design, no holes, space for the USB dongle which is USB A (in what world is having USB-A and argument lmao, thanks steelseries) and on top of that better sensor, better accuracy and it's lighter. Guess we have a winner

There are may mice that fit that shape. The Roccat Burst Pro Air, Vaxee XE. The Haste Wireless is another decent option as mentioned by someone else. In general I like that style/shape and have covered a number of them check @TheProfosist

Cool and all but meh, nothing special or new, just for noobs to mess with stuff though. Many mice have no or close to no CPI deviation, some have some yeah, but nothing that you can't correct in general without this. But for sure all manufacturers should have calibrated sensor out of the box, it's just slacking. Also, you're better off in a specific game to see what sens to use for it anyway. In an actual game environment where you'll also notice if you need to lower or increase and such.

DO NOT use 800dpi. The lower the dpi the higher the latency, you want 3000+dpi minimum. It literally doesn't matter what speed you are used to or how fast the dpi makes it, simply lower sensitivity to counteract the increased speed. The reason you want a higher dpi and much lower sensitivity is latency and consistency. Low dpi + high sensitivity is literally the worst and you might as well play with office mice they would perform identically. High dpi + high sensitivity is really hard to control unless you have Olympic reflexes and precision. High dpi + low sensitivity is the best for 99% of gamers. Sensitivity makes mouse movement faster by amplifying the input which can cause artifacts like jumpy jagged mouse movements. DPI makes it faster by adding more inputs per inch; the higher the dpi the more subdivisions of an inch therefore decreasing the amount of time the mouse registers movement. This isnt debatable, it's an inarguable fact please don't make your mouse performance worse for literally no reason.

Yeah no, considerably lower and its rear is quite a bit different. Its similar to a number of other mice though. The G403/G603/G703 is surprisingly round/bulbous for that style which does go more in line with Logitech's egg based shapes.

Asus mouse is of poor quality: bad assembly quality, the wheel will stop working correctly after two months of use. Moreover, this is not the problem of one an instance (I replaced it with a new one several times under warranty, but the problem returned). I recommend buying this device only when you find out on which components it built on and a little later when there will be more feedback

The tuning feature is cool. I wouldn't use the DPI one at all because there isn't a "best" dpi for a person. Any person can use almost any DPI as long as they have enough play with their sens to adjust for DPI changes. The angle rotation is a big one that people overlook. Each grip changes your sensor angle a little. Your desk/chair height can affect how the sensor angle affects your movement. Along with manufacturing discrepancies. I myself use Rawaccel to change my sensor angle and I generally use around -0.6° (seems like very little but it's not). Having the right angle will allow your cursor to stay perfectly horizontal when swiping left to right. Side note: On the Viper V2P and DAV3 wired I believe that Razer implemented an adaptive sensor angle. I have thoroughly tested it and found the sensor angle changes after a while. I don't want to go into length about it but I'm 95% sure they have some sort if auto angle adjustment. I keep meaning to contact them to ask. I would like to turn it off because I like setting my own and keeping it fixed.

The objective reality about dpi is anyone using less than 3200dpi isnt using their mouse correctly. You are just needlessly increasing latency when you can keep a high dpi and just lower the sensitivity.
@Ryn0_333
@Ryn0_333 Жыл бұрын
@Emerson-Biggons I respectfully disagree. Some games don't allow fine adjustments. Not everyone know about programs like rawaccel. So, with a lower DPI, you can fine tune your sensitivity in smaller increments. Not to mention, on older or low grade computers, higher DPI could potentially cause higher CPU usage. Then you get into feel, some people play their best on 400dpi. I personally like 800 or 1600dpi. Latency is not everything, especially when you are talking miliseconds vs feel. Although, to some extent, it is important. Like objectively, zero friction between skate and pad should be optimal as you are in control of the movements, with little influence by outside forces. However, not everyone uses a glass pad with Teflon feet. Also, like super lightweight mice. I have a Wooting 60HE and a Huntsman mini. I play way better on the Huntsman Mini despite the Woot supposedly having lower latency as well as the other speed features. Sometimes, feel just trumps speed.

@@Ryn0_333 unfortunately you'd be mistaken. A dpi of 3200+ and just using windows sensitivity is enough. A lower dpi massively increases input lag for no acceptable reason.
@Ryn0_333
@Ryn0_333 Жыл бұрын
@Emerson-Biggons so... Do you consider a ~4.5ms input latency difference from 400 to 3200 massive? Or ~2.4ms from 800 to 3200 massive? Or ~1ms from 1600 to 3200 massive? I mean, 4.5ms is the only one I would call meaningful. I'm not just talking about sensitivity. That was one small part that i touched on. My main point is FEEL trumps 4.5ms any day. 400 to even 1600 feels massively different. Even in what you see on screen. Some people just play better on 400dpi. Also, you didn't address the point of older or weaker hardware, causing CPU usage to rise with DPI hikes. That can cause issues worse than just 4.5ms of latency. There is no "best DPI" for every single person and their situations. "Unfortunately, you'd be mistaken", don't be a weirdo... Being arrogant isn't conducive to a good debate. Since I can tell this isn't going to end with anything respectful, I will end it here.
@emerson-biggons7078
@emerson-biggons7078 Жыл бұрын
@@Ryn0_333 Can you please let me know the source of that number? The response time varies based on mouse movement (specifically how fast), so there isn't a single definitive number. A 3200+ DPI latency is as low as your mouse can get, and you can adjust the sensitivity if necessary. I adjust my sensitivity in every game without issue, and many mice even have a DPI switch for temporary adjustments. It's generally best to keep sensitivity as low as is comfortable. If you're interested in learning more, I recommend checking out Battle(non)sense and 2kliksphilip as they provide excellent examples of this.
