As a young boy, Hariss Harun used to pretend that he was his favourite footballer - Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. Now the captain of Malaysian Super League (MSL) side Johor Darul Takzim (JDT), the Singapore midfielder lives his life more like Gerrard's former teammate James Milner, the low key Reds vice-captain known for being unflashy on and off the pitch. Hariss' disciplined approach has certainly paid off: the club have won the league a record six times since his arrival in 2014 as well as the Asian Football Confedration Cup in 2015. But personal effort and talent alone do not an elite professional footballer make - like his chosen sport, Hariss has a solid team behind him supporting his ambitions. We followed the 28-year-old across the Causeway ahead of a JDT game to get an idea of his life as a pro athlete.
