That math example about regression is so true and applicable for many situations. Many people do MBA, CIMA etc. But developing a stable or a progressive career needs imagination, motivation and loving what you do which is beyond just getting a salary or being rich. It can be done if you choose the career path you like to follow. But sometimes we make choices against our wish due to many reasons.

Very true, but should be given an opportunity for scholars to have a sometime to put that into practical knowledge since the statistics is a subject need to have a practical thinking ability from the inception.

It depends, sometimes may be true, sometimes may not be so, so you always got to take these talks with a pinch of salt too .... Before being judged, one must be given a *proper* chance to prove himself/herself too. You can have only a rough estimation/evaluation regarding someone from an interview or any test you incorporate as part of the recruitment/selection process for that matter, so an efficient use of the probation period (6 months in most companies) is the way to go with in order to fully evaluate someone. That's the whole purpose of having such a concept of probation period to begin with, it has not come into existence without any rational reason. As a matter of fact, most companies today are very meagre in that regard, they simply want to hire the jockey in the evening for the race to be started the next day morning .... It has to be mentioned the fact that both the interviewees and the interviewers are equally inept today; the former cannot properly demonstrate what they are really capable of while the latter are not equipped with the skills and the insight in deriving the most out of the former in a proper, meaningful and reasonable/empathetic way before coming to their judgement on the former ....
