Harlan County, USA is a 1976 Oscar-winning documentary film covering the "Brookside Strike", an effort of 180 coal miners and their wives against the Duke Power Company-owned Eastover Coal Company's Brookside Mine and Prep Plant in Harlan County, southeast Kentucky in 1973.

God bless these Men .My Father and grandfather worked in the mines. Daddy started working when he was just 16 years old. He said it was the so black and errie in the mines.

I worked underground in Eastern Kentucky. Tough job, people that never done it dont have full understanding of it. Great movie, i worked non union mine maid as much as union miner and had excellent health insurance. Thanks to the miners back years ago unions it made companies take better care of it employees. Its a shame unions are nothing but middle man that just takes your money now.

It was one of the big struggles back then in the early 1900s, of unions that had no political leadership and edged towards siding with the company over time, or those with political vanguards, like the golden days of the IWW and folks like Eugene V Debs leading that charge.

My grandfather died in the coal mine when it collapsed in the 1940 and i have his pay book they received very little pay.

@@JasonRyanWilson Yeah, but "private companies" are doing most of the censoring. Of course, they are in cahoots with big government, or even pulling the strings. It's become very difficult to discern where one ends and the other begins. Anyway, it just seemed like a libertarian argument that needed to be shot down.
