Well, here you have the very first review on this Solid Body U-Bass by Harley Benton. My far the cheapest of its kind, well built but with serious intonation problems. I hope you like it.

Gracias por su revisión de este instrumento. He estado ansioso por ver o leer una reseña sobre este bajo de ukelele. Todavía puedo obtenerlo como algo para jugar en la casa, o puedo esperar para ver si algunos de los problemas mejoran con el tiempo. Una vez más, gracias por la reseña y saludos desde USA. Thank you for your review of this instrument. I have been eager to see or read a review about this ukulele bass. Well, for home practice is still a great option. I'd pick it altogether with a set of Pyramids (kalas are really expensive). The intonation should be better with them, and you might get more tone variety.

They released a newer version recently, I don't know if its any better. Worth a shot tho!

Muy buena review, como siempre. Creo que ese problema de afinación lo tienen todos, o la gran mayoría, de los ukeleles, no solo los UBass. Tengo entendido q es por su escala tan corta. He leído por ahí que puede solucionarse limando suavemente la cejuela del mastil para bajarle la altura de las cuerdas, pero eso ya es trabajo para un luthier, porque puede quedar trasteando y habría que cambiar la cejuela. Muchas gracias por el comentario. Hoy tendré otra unidad de un colega para echarle un ojo e intentaré hacer un pequeño vídeo centrado en la afinación y el ajuste, a ver qué tal.

Totally agree with your comments. Nice sound though, but the out of tune higher register is a deal breaker for sure.

Maybe I'll be able to try another one in a few days. It seems it's a unit with not so severe intonation issues that might be solved with better strings.

today I picked up my solid ubass HB from thoman. the intonation is terrible between the 0 and 12 threshold being 0.35 to 0.55 cent. and at the 20th fret it is almost a whole ton. I packed it and send it back tomorrow. Luckily my 3 week old spalted maple harley benton u-bass has good intonation. With the strings, the pyramid roundwound is very similar to the acoustic bass, which I really wanted.

Well ... Just out of curiosity. I guess with silver wound strings will sound a bit better.

It could've been interesting to see how it plays with the galli flatwound for the kala ubass, I have those on my journeyman (hollow body) and those are incredible strings. Surely could help keeping intonation more than the rubber ones, especially in slides and so on.. but if the instrument is mistuned from what concerns the frets, then there's not much to do.

Tengo dos Kala Journeyman y he probado todas las cuerdas disponibles en el mercado. Ahora suenan muy bien, uno con las nuevas Aquila Brown, el otro con D’Addario round wound para Micro Bass. Cierto, hay que invertir en cuerdas de calidad, las originales (terribles) parecían una rastra de salchichas al cabo de un mes 😂 Me pregunto si este modelo pesa más que los semiacústicos…

Hola Anna! Gràcies pel comentari. Parlen molt molt bé de les Brown com a alternativa a les blanques. Suposo son molt menys enganxifoses. En quant al pes, crec que al video ho menciono, eren 2 kg i poc, crec recordar. Una mica mes que el Kahuna que vaig tindre, pero ajuda a que se senti una mica més sòlid. La veritat es que l'escala es un pel massa curta pel meu gust.

@@BassAdvisor sí, sembla una mica massa petit. Les Aquila Brown i les Reds són molt millors, ambdues amb una capa de pols metal.lic i menys gruixudes. Sonen molt bé sense amplificació. Bon any nou!

Hola. No lo recomiendo para un niño. Para eso compraría un bajo de escala corta tipo Squier bronco, Harley Benton shorty, J&D mini, etc

Que pena lo de la afinación. Quizás también el toque tenga algo que ver, cómo cuanto se está presionando la cuerda contra el traste y cuánto de fuerte se da a las cuerdas con los dedos. Al ser ese tipo de cuerdas. Otra cosa ya sería la escala que también podría tener que ver. Yo ya le estaba echando un ojo pero no me voy a arriesgar. Buenísima review.

Estuve leyendo sobre el tema y probé con todo tipo de pulsación y zona del traste con el mismo resultado.

Habiendo tantisimos luthiers, constructores de guitarra, guitarreros yo no comprendo como no pueden fabricar ukuleles en España... Para conseguir un buen ukelele es una verdadera lotería...

Hi, do you think that having a guitar tech reshape the saddle may fix intonation problems? Is it too bad?

Hi! I'm preparing a third part of the review demoing another unit of the Ubass and updating conclusions. I can advance that the other one had a better intonation and the nut had quite room to file. It seems I was unlucky. I think dressing the nut and some better strings would give quite a good intonation.

@@kaonashi9582 pyramid 509.200. they are silver wound. Cheap compared to the crazy price of the kala ones. If you want to keep the boomy sound but a bit more tension and definition, the Aquila brown ones are a bit better than the black or white rubber ones.

Debería haber fotografiado dentro del compartimento. Es un piezo eléctrico bajo el puente. Idéntico al kahuna. Creo que todos o la mayoría de ukeleles tienen ese sistema, acústicos y sólidos.

Hola! Pues no me animé a comprar uno, pero la escala es más larga. Eso y su construcción, creo que van a asegurar una mejor afinación (como más escala menos problemas) y un sonido más moderno, especialmente con cuerdas entorchadas.

Exacto. Grabé la prueba de afinación en todas las cuerdas pero no quise que fuera muy pesado y recorte. Así es, en la cuerda la y mi no es tan severo. Por cierto esta semana podré probar otra unidad. Quizás haga una nueva review aunque sea para ver si el problema es generalizado.

@@BassAdvisor how was the intonation on the new one? I had a HB fretless U-bass with intonation issue too - but it's a fretless, so I could just compensate for it. I am considering the solid U-bass, but intonation makes me think twice

@@minstree256 I don't know if I'll be able to upload the part 3 with the demo of the other unit but I can say the intonation was quite better. The new u bass with the same scale as the kahuna seems the improved version of this solid u bass. It's 60€ more expensive but neck through and the longer scale can make a great u bass. Still a ridiculous price.
