www.thomann.de/intl/search_di... Hey guys and gals! I take an even deeper trip into the cheap seats with this $68 B stock Harley Benton fat strat copy in oh so nice Candy Apple Red. Have a watch to see what I make of it!

I bought the exact same guitar and in candy apple red too believe it or not and I love it. I own six guitars right now and none over $500. I like the Harley Benton better than any of them. Now I did lower the action a bit and I ordered new string trees which I haven't installed yet but I have no problem with the intonation. it's perfect. This is a great first and only guitar for a lot of us. I am considering changing the pickups at some point. But right now with my Vox modeling amp it sounds fantastic.

Great comment here thank you. Can you tell me where you got your new trees please and would you recommend them? Also have you had to change the strings yet and if yes, can you recommend a set?

I bought one of these (SSS version) used last summer and made total makeover with new higher quality parts. Finished it today and the first impression is great! With a proper setup this is a good beginner guitar and with some modding, it can be even more! Ok, it won't blow your mind, but for the price, really good stuff!

I got the Sunburst one one based on this review. Pretty impressive guitar for the price, ok it was covered in sawdust and the frets need some serious polishing, but pretty damn good value for money. Any pointers on the string tree upgrade? I bought some roller string trees but these are too high to replace the tree on the B and High E string

When you buy from Thomann remember to buy 2 guitars or 1 and a hardshell case because you'll only be charged one shipping fee. With mine I did a complete set up with intonation, string height and bow. Now it is awesome!

Hey. Is the factory default setup of this guitar good enough to start playing on? I'm a beginner and it'll likely be my first guitar and if possible, I want to avoid messing with the truss rod and going to a music shop to get it set up :/ And have you tried the Harley Benton 10G amp? I plan to buy it along with this one, so.. Any input about that is appreciated too.

I know exactly what you mean. Before i bought my guitar, i wasnt sure if you were being salty or something. But i want to start learning guitar and i threw a few bucks extra in it to buy the Ibanez Gio. Now i know the difference between the guitars. And im really glad i did, even tho i couldnt play a single note. I might buy one for my little brother for his birthday tho, because he wants to play too so badly. I just hope the quality doesnt dicourage him.

Its worth it if you are a cat at modding guitars.Essential upgrades would be to get a nice tusq nut in there and change the tuners.Then deck the bridge and set the thing up.For the pickups you can leave them as is and replace their magnets with alnico 2s or get serious and buy a set of half decent noiseless pickups(even second hand if you can) in there like the fender hot noiseless, and the guitar ll play and sound like a beast. Spending a lot of money on solid body electrics is disregard for your bank account and....physics.Overspend on the rest of the gear if you want...never the guitar.
@KonStafylides7 жыл бұрын
Planning to get this as my first ever guitar. The appearance is important for me as it is what will encourage me to actually play it, and I love the candy apple finish but the white pickguard (or whatever its called) is kinda unatracctive imo.

Very detailed and useful review. I was thinking in buying this guitar (my first e guitar) and I wanted to hear the opinion of an expert. Would you recommend to buy this Harley Benton for 60 Euros or Fender Squier Bullet Strat RW sunburst for 100€? Do you think the price difference is worth?
@richardrichard54094 жыл бұрын
I'm a bass player with a real love for Squier but, I've owned two Squier Bullets and the necks and bridges are utter crap. The bridge really isn't fit for purpose, intonation screws run into the strings, thereby lifting the saddles causing rattles and tuning issues. I get the impression that Squier are dropping the ball, even the new run of Classic Vibes are getting a bad press.

Seems pretty good to me Nick! I think the thing that sticks out about your reviews is you see from a normal player perspective of reliability and quality, rather than just focus excessively on comparing it to the Original model (Fender, Gibson etc). It's nice to see every once in a while! I was wondering, Any thoughts on the Harley Benton S-620 TR? Not really much in the way of reviews on here and I'd be interested in your opinions. All the best from the UK! :)
@NickintheStates8 жыл бұрын
+Jack Cavie Thanks Jack! I try to keep things rational. It is cool to get a relative feel for something to a known like Epiphone or Fender once in a while, but all in all the most important thing to me is that you get a playable, good guitar for the price. And to set expectations. As to the Harley Benton S-620 TR I haven't tried one. It's not entirely my style but looks rather nice. Not a lot of risk at that price, especially with your easy returns from the EU! I'm so jealous on that! I'd have returned 2 or 3 of the ones that came through if it was that easy from the states.
@JackCavie8 жыл бұрын

I know having smooth fret ends is important, but I want my frets with as much side meat on them as possible. There's nothing worse than a string that keeps falling off the fret during some bending or vibrato. Otherwise this looks pretty decent especially for the price.

@Nomadicsage15 жыл бұрын
It's thin like squier, it's a crap shoot with this model. I ordered the sunburst one and it is junk,misaligned bridge,nut slots cut to deep and sharp fret ends.
@johnpearson48995 жыл бұрын
@@Nomadicsage1 Thanks. I was afraid of that. To good to be true. I don't mind doing some fret work and things like that. Especially at that price and if the body and neck are decent quality. I don't even mind replacing some parts because I usually end up doing that anyway to upgrade or change to my liking but, I just don't like the thin body at all. I wonder if the 70s model has the thin body, too? I really appreciate your reply. Thanks.

@oceanblue24music5 жыл бұрын
I think it would be more fair if you wouldve set the action a first, because on this one even though its only 79€ you can set it pretty low. Lower than at a Bullet or Affinity. You would just have to sand the fretboard and you have something better than an affinity for 120€ less. Now people might worry about the fretwork which is good on these guitars. Whilst bad on the bullet. Thats why Im saying the st20 can have a really low action cause the fretwork is good on it. That wouldve highlightend the Bentons even more. However great video :)

I cant order anything from thomann to the us? do you have this issue?

Hi Noah. Well, here's the deal. They won't export anything under $1000 out of the EU if it contains rosewood. There are new regulations restricting that. I have two videos up on CITES, which is the name of the regulations. I'd check them out as they answer a lot of the questions.
