I have had five other new Harleys in the past. After a couple years without a bike I just bought a 1997 Electra glide ex police bike. No leaking issues with it and 45k on it. Just love the Evo motor on it and I think this bike is the most fun of all the ones I owned!👍

I ride a '04 Twin Cam Road King and my wife rides a '98 EVO with fuel injection. Even with nearly 100,000 miles on both bikes, you wouldn't know it to ride them. They still run like a couple of finely-tuned tops. Old doesn't mean bad. You take care of these bikes and they will last forever.

I like running redline VTwin transmission oil in the tranny(quieter and smooth shifting) and since I live in cooler climate (wash st), run 15/40 dino oil (Rotella T4) in engine and primary, runs cool and ,quiet! Quality oil filter (K&N)

I prefer Evo's because I can build one from the crank pin out with the tools I build shovels and panheads with. I never wanted to invest in tools to build twin cams because I'm not a professional m/c mechanic. The early fuel injections were difficult. That is a nice looking electra glide. The only Evo's that I've had any mechanical failure were ones I abused. The inner cam bearing and the plastic breather gear are the must change parts when down for major maintenance.

My 96 Softail Custom is awesome. If you have an Evo I recommend an Andrews E27 cam, K&N air filter and throw some bigger jets in the carb. That's how mines set up and it flys

Done 64000 on my Evo without any Problems with the Motor. Put Edelbrook Heads and Pistons and a lot of other mods like Mikuni Carb, ignition , pipes etc. to get it at 90-100 hp, now on for 40000, and it kicks. Absolutely not considering buying a new Model, cause i like the old style feel, the sound , and tell what: I think the Motors after the EVO look boring. Kicked several Japan race bikes out with that bike, it has so much torque! I think the EVO is the best of modern technology mixed to the historic design. It is simply the summit.

It all depends on the person and what they want from their machine. I had fuel injection and it's ok but not my bag. Carburetors are very reliable and work very well. MAINTENANCE is the key. I ride a 73 Shovelhead which starts on the first spin everytime. Idles beautiful and runs strong. Solid mount motor and there is vibration but not what guys usually talk about like your fillings Falling out, hands going numb . It's all in how your geometry is in alignment. Everything must be in alignment and tight and that makes a World of difference. My shovel has very little vibration and quite comfortable to ride. When I first got it the vibration was pretty bad BUT... It wasnt set up properly. After I made all the adjustments it's now very comfortable and easily ridden all day. Guys these days are a different breed who ride newer bikes. They don't have the knowledge or desire to get their hands dirty. Wrenching on your ride is part of owning it. A matter of pride and satisfaction of doing ones own repairs. Personally I'll never own an EVO I don't like the looks of the updated engines. The shovel is a true old school machine as a Harley should be. Very reliable a s well but requires more MAINTENANCE which isn't a hassle but necessary on any bike. I won't knock an EVO I just prefer old school bikes as they are more like what a Harley should be... Anyway for me It IS what you ride and in the wind to nowhere... Different types of guys on certain bikes. I'll stick with the old school crowd they are more real... Peace...✌️

I sold both my twin cams and bought a 1998 FLSTF I like the Evo it is easy to work on like my Shovelhead is. I been mounted on Flatheads, Panheads and Shovels so the Evo to me has all kinds of power and i see very little difference in power in my Evo and my twin cams. (2001 FLHRCI and 2002 FLSTC)

I am thinking about getting into cruisers and am looking for something that handles well and isnt too heavy 5'9" and 175lb. What do you think about the Bolt or the Vulcan 900 based on that info? Or what other recommendations do you have? Thanks! I appreciate the bible verse quotes a lot too!

Hey Sean, I had a CBR 600 about 20 years ago, but then I got married. Now at the point in my life that I'd like to get back on a bike. I'm more of a sport bike guy and liking the new naked bikes that are out there. Since you've seem to of ridden so many different style bikes, do you have any recommendations for a guy that's around 6'1 ft tall? Thanks!

The twin cams were more harley than the m8 and the bikes still had that perfect mixture of trashy and beautiful that I love about harleys but the evo had dependability and the sound and feel of a shovel or iron. I feel like harley has alienated there hardcore fans by making ugly plastic looking bikes with smooth quiet character deficient motors. The price tag combined with the unfair stigma behind harleys and their riders is turning the new riders off too. I fear it's all RUBs and yuppies from hear on out. Sad....
@ioispigs5480

EVO's are the best motor Harley made. They were listening to the riders finally and built a motor that was supposed to last and still have some power. The '98, the last year of the *real* EVO (the 88's are *NOT* EVO's!, they're a hybrid monstrosity that only lasted a year and a half!) was when Harley got it almost so perfect there was nothing more they could really do to make it any better (I sure wish I knew how they missed the one, easy thing to have also 'fixed' - the cam bearings!). I'm 57 and been riding motorized bikes since I was 8 (a mini bike with a 5 HP lawnmower motor on it was my first ride). Went 8 years after I became disabled from a work accident where I was positive I'd never be able to ride again and discovered by complete accident that I could ride and that it was easier on the pain my back permanently has than trying to ride/drive a car or truck), and 3 years when I was in the Israeli Army. Been a saddle tramp for almost 30 years, many of them literally living on my bike at the time which also means I had to know how to work on them and how to ride them right to keep from screwing them up - when one doesn't have much scratch, one does *not* beat to death their only way to get around! All that said, I can't think much of a person who: says he's "pumped" as often as this twit does, doesn't know how to mount a bike correctly, doesn't have the intelligence to know a stick-it note will come off (or care that he knows it will and the littering he does) and also isn't the best thing in the world for the paint on the tank, is one of those morons who doesn't use a turn signal (and probably has no clue what one is), ignores speed limits and especially so in such an urban area with the houses and yards so close together that means children and pets and people *are* out and about, can't ride for a hill of beans - being all over his lane like a drunkard in a cage (and mainly riding the center of his lane...where all the oil from cages is), needs to try and show-out how fast it gets goping from a stop - again, in an urban neighborhood, possibly waking people up, etc., and the idiot just keeps on showing what an ass he is. He did not impress me in the least. The specks of shit in a persons fart impress me more than this guy did.
