Speaking as someone who was around when Harley made sleds. This thing runs faster than any Harley sled did.

From an engineering/fabrication standpoint it's great. That being said, hearing the roar of a 45 degree v twin out of a vintage sled is somehow sacreligious.

ironcast no way in hell a 45 degree (tractor/harley) motor sounds better than a small bore 70's 2 stroke twin. Search rotax type 354 and open the guy doing asphalt runs. Now that is the sweetest sounding snowmobile motor of all time (even if it's transplanted into a junk polaris tx chassis).

Bob Rynda, you did some really nice work here. I have a '73 Harley Davidson sled that I would like to do the same thing to. I realize that it is a mid-mount engine chassis but I already have the solution to that drawn up. I know you previously stated that do to liability reasons you would prefer to keep your drive engineering private but I think you should patent it! I would be willing to pay for and sign a waiver to have you make up another or furnish some drawings and a parts list. Hope this makes it to you.

Did a nice job on it. I like it. With all the work you put into it I would rather you used a original Harley-Davidson sled. Even with the mid engine mount you could put a front mount bulkhead with IFS. But that's just my opinion. Still a very nice piece of craftsmanship. Two thumbs up!

If you bolted on an 80” evo with the same carb, se57 cam adjustable pushrods and valve springs and cycle shack slip-ons 1/2 the price and twice the torque, 20 more horsepower, w/stock compression, up to 40 with 10.5:1 JE pistons (factory recesses for high lift cam valve clearance) may have to use a milling machine and end mill to trim the case to clear the cam lobes. Or make a FATVO BLOCKHEAD 88” TC heads on an 80” evo lower, i think it adds up to 99/100” ? Don’t recall. Looks sweet, Id like to see it at its potential though!

@bobrynda38236 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your interest. Building the primary drive was a project in itself. The jackshaft has two Timken bearings similar to the crankshaft bearings running in oil. The jackshaft housing is supported by the engine side plate and another housing mounted to the rear of the engine. Most every part on the primary drive including the starter drive is custom made. I have drawings for all these parts although I'm reluctant to share them for labiality reasons.
