Harley Davidson's Coolest Bike is without a doubt the Bad Boy. Made before it's time, the no chrome look just didn't make it in the 90's. There is no better sound than the EVO engine. There is no better throw back look than a springer front end. There is certainly no cooler bike than the Bad Boy! In this video, I'll talk about my own Bad Boy, and what I've done to it!

I remember going with my mom to buy her Springer bad boy back in '96 from a Harley dealer in Daytona. She still has it today, and I ride it when I go home. It's absolutely amazing and enjoy seeing it.

John Maxwell, Love your videos and would love one from you servicing the springer. Can't seem to find much from you tube regarding the springer. I'm getting ready to replace the neck bearings on a 1990 FXSTS as well as the bushings and would rather see a video prior to rolling up my sleeves and diving in. You have a special knack for getting your message across on your tutorial videos. Tons of respect to you,

My friend got a 1948 that had all the tabs and original sheet metal and was the most complete old scooter I ever worked on. He brought it to me to restore and I rode it around some after I was done and everyone stopped to look it over. He will never ride it he is freaked out over the tank shift. I actually prefer the tank shift of the nine bikes I have had six were tank shift.

Hey JM, thanks for sharing your time with is via the channel. I bought a 99 FLHT with a Screaming Eagle big bore kit 6 years ago and absolutely love it in every way. It’s a great local cruise or back road ride, rarely will I hit the Interstate with since she doesn’t like much over 70mph. Carbureted and cables give much more feel over electronics and hydraulics. Thanks again.

Ah, the dreaded 'impulse buy'. Destroyer of wallets and savings accounts, bringer of ramen noodles and PBJ's, delayer of current projects, not to mention putting one on a couch one way or another. I bought my Sporty Low 'by accident' on E-Bay. I was testing the seller's reserve. At the last second I bid a tad low for the area. "Nah, he won't take that" *enter*. Screen refreshes, 'Congratulations you've won', "oh chit, I just bought a bike!?!" Went over the reserve by one dollar. Whupps. It was a decent deal, but not one of my more responsible moments.

Hey John, speaking of impulse buys, i flew from ontario canada to san antonio, bought a low mile, one owner 05 Springer. Took saddlebags as carryons, my camping gear in a duffle as checked bag and then rode it home on the natchez trace, blue ridge parkway, backroads of new york. 2500 miles home. It handles WAY better than my previous fat tire 06 softail standard ! Love this bike !! Any chance of a springer front end maintenance vid in the future?? Cheers.

I love the looks of the 'Springer' - which of course , the Bad Boy was derived from. Match that front end with the Softail rear end, wow! very very cool. My favourate looking Softail. I only wish the Softails of the era had the handling capabilities and rear suspension of the 2018 Softails - there would have been a Springer in my garage.

John, Thanks for your perspective! Bad Ass is in the eye of the beholder! I like your Bad Boy and how it sounds, however I have always been a fan of the old Harley Barges of the late 40's... with the springer front end PLUS big ass tires front and back and the huuuggge gas tanks (Yeh I am crazy) but that is what I like (remember, eye of the beholder....)... so I looked around on the internet and fell in love with a Red and Silver, 2002 Heritage Springer (about 30 miles from me).... So I drove over, looked at it and I was hooked and committed to buy it on the spot. It was in 2004 (2 years old) with only 800 miles on it!!!!!! It was like the guy was actually "storing it for me" to purchase... LOL He did not ride it much and it looked BRAND SPANKING NEW (stock saddle bags, seat and all) when I saw it (remember eye of the beholder)... I had NEVER ridden a Harley in my life!!!! Here is where the fun starts.... ;-) My first and only "bike" was a 1960's cushman scooter (step through... They called it a "Road King" in 1957) with an upright one cylinder engine (centrifugal clutch) that IF IT had any power it was around 4 horses (max)..... So I am really out of my league at this point..... 50 Plus years old.... First Helmet I ever owned... I came back a few days later with the cash and check for the balance.... He gave me the keys and I acted like I knew what I was doing.... cranked her up and pulled out of his driveway carefully SO I would not embarrass myself (at least until I got out to the main road)... I struggled to make the approximate 20 turns to cover the 30 miles to get home without killing myself and pull into my garage.... Whew!!!! I went inside and looked on the computer for and signed up for the Learn to Ride Class at a local Harley Dealer.... THANK GOD the lady instructor was nice and did not call our hands when several of us in the class rode in on our shining Iron Steeds (on the last day of the class)!!! LOL At the end of 3 days we completed the Learn to Ride Course and I began my journey to learn more about how to actually ride my Heritage Springer..... by the way did I say on the last day of the class it rained cats and dogs on the way home.... riding in the rain for my first time? Fast forward 15 years, I still have NOT killed myself and have practiced as much as I can to ALSO keep from killing anyone else.... Looking back, would I have bought a smaller bike to learn on??? I should have but I probably would be just as stupid, just because I wanted THIS 2002 Heritage Springer (remember eye of the beholder....).... Yes I was stupid but LUCKILY all's well that ends well.... I do not recommend this way of getting into motorcycling as I have had some VERY close calls trying to counter steer this Barge..... I love the way my Barge looks, feels and accelerates with its massive "LOL" 88 cubic inches.... And yes it does not go as fast as it once did because I hung a bunch of additional chrome on it (racks, American Flag, POW Flag, teardrop tool box and tool kit, +++).... probably some of the parts you sold off John... Please keep up your videos and keep us better informed of the things we should know, but do not know.... Ride Safe!!!!! ....errrr Me Too!!!!!!

John Maxwell everything was working fine until last summer I hit a crack in the road and bent my wheel. Then after replacing the wheels and changing a few other things not to mention hauling it a few trips. The turn signals weren't working properly. Turn the ignition on check left signal works fine check right comes on stays solid. Checked them while riding and none of them bliked. So I check the bulbs and they look ok. Switch sides with the bulbs and the problem switched sides. So I bought a whole box of the mini bulbs and tried them all in every configuration switching all four corners. Nothing! Problems persist so I was thinking tsm or load equalizer. Put a badlands load equalizer on it and now the left works and the right rear doesn't blink but the front and indicator alternate. So I am guessing it is the wiring in the right rear.

You can't go wrong with a Springer.... I actually wouldn't mind putting a Springer front end on my Heritage just to get more of an old school look to her. Awesome bike man look the looks of it.

Nice video. To this day the Bad Boy is still Harley's best looking bike ever. Kudos to Willie G. Davidson for creating a beautiful, blacked-out, tricked-out version of a FX springer. The mods you made are tasteful.

John, Continue to enjoy your vids... I'm curious of your personal opinion of the Deuce. Mines a 2004 and man I love it always have and always will. By the way very cool Bad Boy... I too love the springer front end.

Recommend an Andrews EV42, cut the heads ~ 0.030" and enjoy. Makes the Evo feel like it should have stock!

I bought my '98 FLSTS Brand new. Love the Springer! It now has 18" ape hangers and an EV-72 Andrews cam. Vance & Hines longshot pipes and an adjustable ignition and of course an S&S super E carb. It is my favorite HD.

First off I want to say I love your Channel. I have a custom Softail with a Kraft Tech frame and a V-Twin motor and my bike is wobbling. Can you give me some insight on what could be causing it and what to look for?

How do you feel about the crossbones with a seat conversion? I know it's got the fatter wheels but it looks pretty spot on similar.
