I have a 1995, 1200 Sportster, love it and I am the original owner. Used to commonly do 500mile trips each way on the weekends (when I had and iron butt, I can't do it anymore). Was my first and only Harley. Sportster is a great bike for the vertically challenged. I agree about the foot controls, get a kit to move them forward and you will enjoy the bike a lot more.

the sportster is like riding a 69 camaro compared to a liter bike being a modern sportscar. there are many people who would love the 69 camaro over a modern sportscar even though it would get beat in just about every aspect. thats what the sportster brings, that nostalgic classic feel.

I own a Roadster with stock suspension, factory rear sets, and the factory clip-ons. It’s meant to be a cafe racer from the factory with more lean angle and performance than all the other Sportsters, and I think HD succeeded in that. With a set of rear Ohlins and good tires, I know guys that even track them. Taller bars and forward controls aren’t what the Roadster was meant for. The 48, or the Iron is better suited for that. People are always surprised on my weekend canyon rides at how well I can keep up with their sport bikes. It’s not my only bike (I own an Aprilia as well) but there’s just something to cool about the Roadster. It has so much character, is good looking, and with the factory cafe parts, it actually handles well for a nearly 600 pound cruiser. You guys should mod this to be the way HD meant it to be which is a cafe. Rear controls, clip-ons, and some decent rear suspension.

The rubbery screeching sound from the rear could be the bald tire, but it could also be from the rear wheel alignment. If it’s alignment is off, the belt will push against the side of the pulley and make a rubbery screech sound.

Great vid Yams, REALLY looking forward to this build series. I picked up a 2016 Roadster earlier this year for a lot of the reasons you stated. Getting that visceral, unrefined, old school bike feeling in a "newer" machine. I'm not a die hard Harley guy by any means, it's not anywhere near the fastest, lightest, best handling, but this bike has a butt ton of character. It is simply, motorcycle. Thanks for shedding some light on this particular model, there are not a whole lot of videos out there of the bigger MC KZfaqrs on one.

That is the thing really. You can build on it. I got the Sportster S (still not a REAL bike). You can build on it. You can't compare dogs by saying the greyhound is better than a pitt-bull. It is just not a thing. Both are bad pets in the wrong hands. The H2 and Sportster S are both 3 second bikes, anything after that is law enforcement territory. Although, the suspension on the Sportster S really does suck. I love the bike but man, the shock up the spine with forwards is brutal.

Got a 2016 roadster as my first bike and I’ve been on it for the last two years. I know it’s generally low performing but there’s something about it as a beginner that’s insanely exciting. Trying to get it through some corners and hanging off the side makes you feel like an absolute mad man. I’d say think of it as the send off for the Evo, best stock sportster. I’m at the point now where I’m not sure if I want to start wrenching or just trade and go naked upright sport.

I have a 2016 forty eight and I really enjoy it, it's a lot of fun, when you're in the sweet spot on the rev range the torque is great and when I open it up it makes a sound like it's screaming. In general it feels like I'm the engineer on a train, which may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's an extremely enjoyable bike to ride, even completely stock. I'm gonna stage 1 it soon and then hopefully I'll be able to pull on scouts.
@ShadowtheRagdoll
@ShadowtheRagdoll 2 жыл бұрын
stage 1 will give you about a 10% increase so you might have around 73-74hp. Scouts stock are 100hp. given that scouts are lighter and have a lot more power, you aren't going to pull on a scout.

My first bike was a well used 1959 Sportster in 1965. I owned a new 2000 model that I bought because my 1999 Road King stayed in the shop three times longer than it did on the road, and I loved the Sportster for the simplicity of the bike. I have owned so many bikes over the years I can't count them all, and at the moment I am riding a Gold Wing. I have decided to sell the Goldwing and am now looking to find another sportster since I am now 72 and the Goldwing is getting a little heavy for my tired legs. I will say one thing. The Sportster can be converted into a smaller, lighter Road King without a lot of work. A touring seat, wind shield, bags, a tourpack, and better rear shocks, and you can put 600 or more miles a day on the bike easy.

Have a 2017 & 2020 (1for wife) both Stage 4 kits, 1 heat range colder plugs, Progressive 444 shocks, external breathers (HUGE IMPROVEMENT) different pipes (RB Racing 2-1 best) motocross bars Michelin Comp 2 tires (stock Dunlops are junk) running 36/39 psi. Small National Cycle Mohawk Windscreen. I live in the CA Gold Country and (yeah I’m a local) usually have little problem keeping up with other riders making runs thru the twisties with their techno bikes that does all the thinking for them. I wanted old school and it was between this and an Indian FTR, which is an excellent bike. After a bunch of $$$ and relearning how to ride old school, I am very glad I got the Roadster.

Waiting to see how it rides with the geometry corrected, and better tires. I know the Sportster should handle better than that sad outing. 2018? So its a rubber mounted engine.?.. ya' know about death wobble, right? That could explain the shorter rear shocks. That would kick the front end out a little which would help the wheel wobble prob a little. Whatcha' think?

I have forwards and 16” bars on my Harley at 5’11”, and I couldn’t be more comfortable on long rides. However, I’m about as aerodynamic as a boat sail, but conveniently I can’t get going fast enough to creat much drag.

sportsters probably have the most aftermarket support of all motorcycles. You can get just about any brand suspension you want. Legend, ohlins, drag specialties, progressive, etc.

I bought a 2022 48, it was kind of a knee jerk purchase. I would have liked something else now with more power but it does have a torque pull. But with that said I’d like a garage full of bikes lol but the 48 It’s definitely not for comfort and the wind 💨. However, thats it’s charm I think, every trip is a journey, a challenge. I have driven it 200 miles before. But when they are bobbed out they look incredible. A piece of art. A piece of Americana.

If it’s intended for beginners then that’s why the mid controls make sense. Beginners shouldn’t be learning with forwards. They can always add them later.

I honestly love my sportster forty eight. Do I wish it had a little more power of course but it is very comfortable for me. I’ve been riding bike for years so I wish I got a lowrider or bagger of course but money I paid for it completely worth it and been fun making it my own.

I've been daily riding an 883 since 2016. I'm gonna step up to a Pan America shortly but I'll be sad to sell the sporty honestly. They have character, they're reliable and easy to maintain yourself. Depending on where you live, they're fast enough if you ring'em out.

Sportster is and has been a staple of Harley Davidson for a long time. So much can be done with it. If you're looking for just speed then get a pocket rocket. I myself have a Road Glide Special with a sidecar for my dog. I've often toyed with the idea of getting a sportster and making a chopper just for around town fun

I have an 04 sportster 1200 now and I’ve had a lot of bikes. Now I’m almost 40 the sportster is my favorite bike it shakes and it rattles and beats you and makes it feel like a big bike but enough power to get an old heart pumping. I think they are great bikes. I love an r1 more than anyone but when you’re almost 40 and have a family the sportster is a great bike. Loud fun fast enough and they just look cool.

From actually riding a sportster 1200 roadster without any modification straight from the showroom floor i found it a bit more enjoyable over any of the other available sportsters,definitely not a sports bike but a bit sportier than the normal 883 and 1200's with just as much character

At 60 years just starting to ride bikes (mega mid life crisis) I was never going to be interested in a sports bike so I went for a cruiser and picked up a 1200C. It's rough and ready, shiny and loud. Its fast enough for a grey beard newcomer like me!! Yes the suspension sucks - but I ain't ever gonna go fast enough to worry about it !!

Placed a Stage 1 on mine, Dropped some weight. Dyno'ed it. 70HP 104HQ. Roadster in San Diego yesterday and took it up to 95mph on the Highway with minimum vibes or any problems at all. I have a V&H Tracker Exhaust and it is rough enough to set off car alarms from 10ft away. Showa OEM 13.36 rear shocks are stiff and jarring. Ninja 650's of 2019 were 65HP albeit lighter.
