Short film featuring master wooden boat builder Harold A. Burnham. Shot both in the Burnham ship yard and on the water, the film touches on shipbuilding in Essex, the Burnham family, learning from old-time boat builders, designing boats using half models, milling lumber, lofting, framing, community involvement, navigating on the water, maintaining a wooden boat, and rehabilitating a historic schooner.

Salute and admiration from Denmark. The way Your wood supply works, is very fascinating. I am 76 and a learned steele shipwright & wooden shipbuilder. And I've sailed the 5 seas. This is an absolutely great video, man You got the spirit. I have never before seen the scooner with this very special afterpart, very interesting. I play the folk fiddle myself. The narrative of this shipyard is so fascinating --- and it is the real thing !! Love it.

The Burnhams are a cornerstone of the Essex heritage and they preserve an important part of Massachusetts’s cultural ancestry.

Great film with Harold- Without good quality interviews such as this one is I may not watch it all the way through and miss out on just what a rare item Harold and his huge family legacy was and is. There's only a handful of individuals as skilled and knowledgeable as he is left.But as I watch more shipbuilding episodes and read the comments it does seem like there is a new crowd very interested in it. Documenting Harold and others like him such as Lou Sauzzete and Leo on the Tally Ho in Washington really opens the gate. The high quality filming and episode style of really focusing on the details of building I think will preserve the ability for new guys to really get it. There will be the ability to produce these types of vessels in the future thanks to these guys. I can't stop watching this stuff and there are quite a few other filmmakers and boat crews surfacing. Harolds shop needs a good series on the Sylvina Beale.
