Sailing around Lake Travis with nephew, Luis, visiting from Perú (MG's older brother).
We took a spin around Isla Bajamar and cut through the gap between the low-water island and Windy Point -- being careful not to run aground on the sandbar that connects the two (The Isthmus of Bajamár). We were also very careful to keep clear of swimmers. In theory, there is at least 6'-7' of water in the middle, but it didn't look that way when we got there.
Isla Bajamar (norte) is one of several "Sometimes Islands" that haunt Lake Travis. (Sometimes they're there, other times they're not.) We've given them the Spanish names Islas Bajamares (Isla Bajamár norte, sur, etc). That appeals to our fellow AYC members because, as one said "It sounds like we're in the Caribbean.")
