I love how nervous he is. He is so successful, beloved, and handsome, and yet he's still scared. Something about that is comforting in a way.

Hard to believe Harrison was 58 then. Aging - he's doing it right.

Harrison truely deserved this award, as for negative comments about his speech, yes it wasn't perfect, but it was heartfelt and personal. Lets not forget another famous actor, Laurence Olivier, who would get physically sick with stage fright. So Harrison didn't do to badly considering!

Such a humble man... He obviously holds the ethics of his natural profession of a carpenter who was fortunate in getting his opportunity to channel skills into another craft. Totally deserved award and a joy to watch. Our favorite movies would not be nearly as good as they are without his involvement.

Wow! From 2:13 - 2:25, this clip shows Melissa Mathison (Ford's second wife), Ford's mother, Dorothy, and Carrie Fisher - all three in row. All of whom have since passed away.

Carrie 2:24; She also made a memorable speech available in AFI clip form.When I was a kid and all the movie stars from the big studios were either getting lifetime awards or obituaries, my parents reacted, but I just expected that people from "the past" would die. Now, my generation begins to die and I am alarmed. Cannot beat the grim reaper. Bergman films the grim reaper and Woody Allen comically reprised the figurehead. Now that we have visual records of people, we see their youth and their aging. The photograph and motion picture and digital sharing will make more vivid the transition from youth to aged. Obits are great for sense of bio and zeitgeist.

Wow ! There are many iconic leading men in Hollywood over the years - but there's only one Harrison Ford. Its fitting that they got Brad Pitt - who's considered one of my generation's best leading men - to participate in Ford's tribute.

Both the "Star Wars" and the "Indiana Jones" films were staples of my film experiences as a kid growing up and appreciating the art of films. Thank you, Harrison Ford, for making those experience s so fun and memorable.

@deadwood753100 You could not be more wrong. The fact of the matter is that Harrison Ford has certainly indeed impacted modern cinema. Also, if you were not aware, not every actor is as outgoing and over the top as Robin Williams, and Harrison Ford is an example of that. You don't have to cry and be overtly emotional to be truly touched by such an honor.

@Fue13 No, it's not. Even Marlon Brando used cue cards on some of his films to help him with his lines. Politicians use teleprompters to help them with their speeches and have been doing that since the 1950s. I think any human being facing such a crowd on such an important night of their life would want the reassurance of some cards and notes. He did fine.

Wow. I once stayed at a friends house in Santa Barbara, who was part of dance recital that Patricia McQueeney attended. Interesting family - the youngest son went to school with Alex Zemeckis - son of Academy Award-winner Robert Zemeckis, and the house was once owned by Singer / Songwriter Joe Cocker.

Spielberg and Lucas does not seem particularly warm in their handshakes with Brad Pitt, is there something ? By the way, they should have invited Ridley Scott too .. Blade Runner's artistic achievement ranks at least alongside Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark ..
@88feji
@88feji 7 жыл бұрын
I see but look at the standing of Blade Runner today as one of the greatest sci fi monuments today ... I think Ridley was in his element during those days thats why his best works are still Blade Runner and Alien ... I have a hunch that Harrison Ford may have been a victim of his own growing fame and power ... I feel as he grew older his choice of movies seem to become rather less edgy, less imaginative, less risky, safer and more politically correct ... its sad because his charisma lends itself readily to more edgy and imaginative pieces .. His less known works like Mosquito Coast, Frantic, Regarding Henry and even Frisco Kid are all really interesting movies (despite some flaws too) ...
@88feji

I've read the story but I do not think the crew was xenophobic .... you know how when people get frustrated they say things like "that british guy" but they don't really mean to insult by nationality but as a way of addressing someone they don't like for various reason, not necessarily racist ones .. For one thing the crew is really professional when you look at the amazing result of the visuals of the movie ..

There is an AFI video where Harrison is thanking speaking about someone (George Lucas maybe?) but instead talks about how George kept rejecting him and someone named Bob (Gale?) actually started his career.. I saw it on KZfaq a couple years ago... anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

I kind of agree. I've always thought the best acceptance speeches come from theatre actors like Christopher Plummer, Emma Thompson and Ralph Fiennes etc. They're actors on a stage! Improvise and have fun, I say. Don't let the audience get to you.
