Hey guys!
Back again with another mod for the 75! This time a rear ELocker from Harrop. I have wanted an ELocker for so many years and finally have the opportunity to install one.
I have run a front mechanical locker for nearly 8 years and now with towing a trailer offroad I have found myself needing a little more help than the facotry Limited Slip Diff rear can offer.
I hope you guys enjoy this video, I look forward to uploading more offroading videos and reviewing the locker as I go!

Hey Danie... My 80 series is in at the mechanics getting an Elocker at present as the ring and pinion gear had a party and decided to crash so I'm getting the Elocker installed at the same time... Great info and it is great to see you back and making content and I love your honest opinion on things as always... I'm just an off road tourer wanting to get into out of the way spots not into crawling or comp stuff so this should help me lots. I have been researching lockers for a few years now and it seems the best low maintenance system, and it just works...

Just found your channel and will be watching more vids. You made a statement about full time mechanical lockers wearing the rear tires down but indicated that they've worked fine in the front. There really isn't any different wear front or back unless I'm missing something. I'm looking at installing the lunchbox lockers in my rig. The piggy bank can't do electric or air lockers at this time. I'm sure there will be some heightened scrubbing of the tires but they're designed to release at some point of differential turning. Please correct my thinking if I'm not seeing something. You go over the pros and cons from what Ive seen so far. 👍 I look forward to your upcoming videos. And for the folks that insist on that being your dad's truck..... well, you can fill in the blank. Have a fantastic day!
@DanieSimpson
@DanieSimpson 2 жыл бұрын
Yes what I said in the video was correct. The mechanical auto locker that I have cannot be disengaged permanently. Hence when you install them on the rear and drive on hard bitumen surfaces the locker continues to engage and disengage, because your tyres can't 'slip' very effectively on road it ends up just destroying your tyres and very noisy on road. Mine is installed on the front where I can disengage my front Hubs and drive to the front diff on road so the locker isn't 'on'. Thank you for watching appreciate it!

@@andrewcox710 no sorry you'll find alot of bigger companies don't offer things like end of year sales or discounts of they're products. The prices are already well set for the production costs, parts, packaging etc. Usually smaller people who onsell these put such a massive mark up on top of the RRP usually that they can have "sales" but really they're just cutting back on their own profit and the customer isn't actually saving.

I am only guessing of course but I suspect that limited slip was well past its prime long ago with the km on the unit, never mind that a rear tire lifted off the ground makes it totally useless even when it was a new vehicle. Would I be right to say that installing this locker and the mechanical front unit are the two best off road worthy drive line mods you have done to this 75 ? It would have been so tempting to use a fine grit rollock wheel on a die grinder to remove that gasket material, unfortunately its easy to damage even steel and in the process put fine grit into the diff housing. Gasket remover spray and lots of scraping, I've sure done that a few times on parts.

Lsd worked pretty good for its age. Showed very little signs of wear on the clutch packs also. Very rarely lift rear wheels especially with the trailer. Yes hands down lockers are what I would do first to any 4wd in the future.

@@DanieSimpson That is amazing about the condition of the LSD, if it had been a North American made axle LSD it would have been scrap long ago is my guess. Sure which they made most axle housings over here for pickups etc with the third member design vs having to do the gear swap in the housing under the vehicle and also no option to take another third member and throw it in quick. Highway tractors are like your Toyota, but GM/Ford/Dodge/Jeep have other ideas it seems !.

One of the most impressive parts of this vid was that electric ratchet!! I completed my apprenticeship at the turn of the century and battery equipment was not a thing! Are u going to put a locker in the 60?

My 200 has a central diff lock is this the same thing and does it do the same job. I use it a lot on dirt roads. Great video
@DanieSimpson
@DanieSimpson 3 жыл бұрын
No this is a locker. A centre diff just splits drive between front and rear prop shafts, same as what any transfer case achieves. If you lift a wheel you will still lose drive and become stuck without a locker

Hey Danie, are you still running the standard springs you had re-set with the dobinson remote res shocks or have you changed your set up? If so where did you have them re-set?
@DanieSimpson
@DanieSimpson 3 жыл бұрын
Yes same springs that have been in it for nearly 20 years, local place did the hot reset they got bought out unfortunately. And yes I have dominions remote res adjustables all around

Shimmed rear lsd and front rear locker is the go/better imo. The lsd provides better onroad traction in wet weather etc, instead of single pegging it especially when towing and pulling out into traffic. Twin locked only for weekend warrior rock hopping slow 4x4ing haha.
@DanieSimpson

Yeah when you are a slow old diesel single pegging it any time isn't really a thing lol I just plod along:)

@DanieSimpson

Have seen them done completely over the top with tens of thousands of dollars spent upgrading the internals and keeping everything sensible and in tune and still let's go. Simply not designed to handle the heat, so will always fail just a matter of when, not if.
