I remember, several years ago when we first started our lawn in 100% sand. My husband used an old bed springs to drag the ground. He spread old manure he got from a farmer friend with the manure spreader he borrowed. Then he planted alfalfa, wheat, and whatever small seeds he could find. When it grew well, he planted grass seed. His lawn was like a carpet, had earth worms for the first time, too. When you’re poor, you do what you have to do. That’s the best way, usually. Makes for great memories. When you’re a big, rich farmer, Chad, you will look back and laugh at some of the things you rigged, but they WORKED, and it was fun for you and for us that got to watch. God bless your entire family...

Family friend had one similar to that that he had me run a large field with, when I was young. Built it himself using rebar and rock chain from a large loader tire from a quarry. Was an 8 foot by 10 foot long contraption. Long spikes on one side, short ones on the other. Had to use the tractor and a chain, to turn the damn thing over. Pulled it behind a John Deere farm tractor. Twice across the field with the long spikes (Once long ways, once at an angle), the unhook and flip it over. While I was doing that, he seeded the field with a large broadcast seeder. Then I'd go back over it the same way, but with the short spikes. He used it to rehab fields that had been over used, by farming or new fields that had never been farmed. Worked for him for a summer, between school years. Old guy taught me how to drive old tractors, and love old antique farm equipment. If you don't know what rock chains are, Google "loader rock chains". He used the old ones, that were basically worn out for that use, and did some welding, and made a new tool for his farm. Worked damn well.

Get you some screened loam or screened topsoil and spread it over the yard after scratching it up. Then cover with straw and keep it watered.. early morning and late afternoon. Just leave enough daylight for it to dry so it does not go moldy and you should have a good lawn in Btw put in a french drain to help with water run off ditches from the gutter drains.

I can't believe I missed this video when I found your channel. It is a good one, for sure! You can make fly traps for free that are very effective. For outside you get a gallon jug, cut the top off just below the shoulder of the jug. In very the top into the jug, it should fit snugly. Put water about halfway up the jug with a few drops of dish washing detergent. The put hamburger or meat scraps in the water, replace the inverted jug top. Make sure the spout clears the water. Flies, wasps etc go in but can't get out and drown in the soapy water. I make a smaller version for in the house for Fruit flies using water bottles and fruit.

That harrowing chain is sweet. I just spread 10yds pea stone on our driveway. Looks sooooo good after years of dirt, rocks and partial hard top. What size stone you have on your driveway? Just curious, you guys have crabgrass out there in MO? It's my nemesis here in NH; ugh put down per-emergent; hopefully I'm ahead of it this year. Oh, and me n my dad (grandpa) picked up 3 Hampshire X piggies. wohoo Nice job with the harrowing chain grandpa.
