RFK had the most beautiful and gentle soul and the most important characteristic for a great leader: the capacity for change and growth. I regret that this country and world lost such a wonderful human being. He is missed. 😢

RFK was not the President of the USA, he was assassinated in November 1968 during the pre-election campaign. A great tragedy for the USA and the world. He would have been president for sure, but unfortunately fate took a fatal path.

My mom worked on his campaign, as well. She did the Calligraphy for the place settings at the Ambassador Hotel, the night RFK was killed. I have many buttons as well, and a letter from Ed Kennedy, and Lew Wasserman, then CEO of Universal Studios, personally thanking her for working on RFK's campaign. It is encouraging that his son is running for the Presidential nomination.

Correction: RFK had 4 months to live. This interview is from February 5, 1968. Belafonte guest-hosted The Tonight Show for a week in February 1968, interviewing RFK and MLK. This channel got the date wrong. If it was April 24, 1968, they would be talking about MLK's death.

Anyone who has read books on Bobby Kennedy, knows that Bobby was willing to learn and change his mind on things. He went from being a conservative Democrat to a liberal Democrat because not only was he was willing to listen, but he willing to go to the source. So I believe that, Harry was proud to invite Bobby to come through those doors, and Bobby was honored to be invited by people like Harry.

I was not in school yet, a little boy laying on the carpet in front of mom console stereo, listening to that milk chocolate voice of his, waving my feet back and forth and humming in harmony to his songs. In my imagination, I was traveling on that boat with him. That was probably 52 years ago. At the time, I can recall wanting to meet three famous people, harry Bellafonte, Sidney, Poitier, Lucille Ball, and Vincent Price. And I’ll tell you something else. At the risk of being accused of being woke, I was a little white boy that didn’t know no difference between black folk and white folk. I’m afraid that arc that Dr. King spoke of may be more,like the path of the pendulum. I sure hope it swings back to the light soon enough.I hope everyone reading this finds love, compassion and peace in their hearts, souls, and lives. 🙏🏻

I grew up listening to the velvet voice of Nat King Cole and the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra. Although not as harmonically sophisticated as Nat and Frank, Harry Belafonte's approach was well rooted and very easy on the ears. Harry Belafonte could hold his own. The music of today is toilet music, it quickly circles the drain.

I grew up to be a musician myself, just up to college, but all those artists you mentioned, with a good dose of the folk musician and bluegrass musician were powerful influence on me too. On short term disability now due to a brain infection, but there’s always one of their songs running through my heart, through my mind.
