Caray began his major league career behind the mike with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1945. After a quarter-century in St. Louis, he migrated to California where he spent the 1970 season broadcasting the games of Charlie Finley's Oakland Athletics. He then moved on to Chicago, where he announced White Sox games for 11 years, after which he went cross-town to Wrigley Field to work for the Cubs. In his first 41 seasons in the booth, Caray never missed a game, and the fan favorite went on to broadcast over 8,300 games in his 53-year career in the big leagues.

I just read that Harry Caray simultaneously was announcing for the St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals his first 2 seasons as an MLB announcer in 1945 and 1946. That is crazy since they were in seperate leagues (A.L. and N.L.) and with road games? Also, over 50 consecutive years announcing, all the way until his death, to include 41 consecutive years without missing a game!? That is Lou Gehrig/Cal Ripken jr. Level. Very impressive. I wish all humans could find a passion for a vocation they could dive into so they never wanted to retire because they wanted to die doing their craft. I am afraid that era ended in the 20th century with the exception of Bob Eucker who is finishing up his career in baseball.
