I’m honestly amazed that the BBC hasn’t done an adaptation already because the BBC is famous for its audio dramatisations of books especially Narnia Sherlock Holmes and Lord of the rings and each time they are excellent but audible also do an incredible job so I do have very high expectations

@@NB4th There are two versions of the audiobooks, depending on what continent you live on. For most of the world, the audiobooks were narrated by Stephen Fry. For North America, they were narrated by Jim Dale, and they vary slightly in that they changed words and phrases that most Americans would not understand, including the title of the first book. Until last week, those were the only versions you could get on this continent. I suppose it makes sense. Children, who are the primary audience for the first few books, likely wouldn't be experienced enough to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words/phrases. Also, the editing tools needed to simply re-record and replace certain lines probably didn't exist back then, so it was likely more cost-effective to record each book twice. Still, I never liked that I was missing out on Stephen Fry's performance, so I'm glad that I now have a chance to listen to it. So, by the end of next year, there will be THREE versions of each Harry Potter audiobook!

What!? i had no hopes left for a new audiobook! hahaha This is brilliant! Harry potter deserves the full deal with sound effects + ambient music 💛 I listen daily to Stephen fry and sometimes alternate to Jim dale to re-listen it all through a different approach, and i will welcome this new version with all my heart 💛

It’ll take a while to complete production on even the first one and production is starting soon which means it’s not even ready yet. This is a full cast production with full immersive audio. It’s basically like a movie in an audiobook. It takes a while to make.

@iso_Bandit they didnt redo them, those are the ones that were exclusive overseas and were just released in the states. I assume overseas just got the Jim Dale versions too. Stephen Fry recorded those a long time ago

Unlikely that there is any connection, but this is the kind of thing I have been hoping my work on Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter would be leading to. Excited to see more of these things come to life. I hope that the attention to detail will be as high as it deserves.

Warner Bros are also adapting Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat into an animated movie with Bill Hader voicing the cat in spring 2026. I wonder if they could also produce new audiobooks of The Cat In The Hat and The Cat in The Hat comes back for audible with Bill Hader reading those books.

I am currently listening to Order of the Phoenix. I am making my way through the audio books as read by the original narrator, Stephen Fry. I have also listened to all of the audio books as read by the other narrator, Jim Dale. Now, I am really looking forward to this new round of Harry Potter audio book full cast productions.

They’re recording audiobooks of the Harry Potter series with each character having a unique voice. No, they won’t be voiced by their film counterparts’ actors.

Love listening to audio dramas. I just hope the background effects are not so loud that will over power the voices like it was on Pottermore. Plus I hope the music doesnt play every second. Listening to The Sandman I wish they pulled back with the music. It was a bit distracting.

i'm very interested in this, technically it could be consider new canon material, the sound interpretation of the stories exactly like it is on the books, i just hope they keep it faithful to the 90s style and not sound like some teenagers of the current times, although maybe i wouldn't notice since i'm foreign, this could be very great

There's an official article about this on the "Wizarding World" website. They say this will have a full ensemble cast, but all the voices will be completly new. Similarly, there's going to be a completly new original soundtrack to accompany the narration. So in other words, this project will be completly disconnected from the movies.

Unabridged, of course. Rowling wanted the original audiobooks to be word-for-word adaptations of the printed books. Infamously, Stephen Fry had so much trouble saying ‘Harry pocketed it’ that he called Rowling and asked if he could say ‘Harry put it in his pocket.’ She thought for a time then said ‘No.’ She wanted people to be able to listen to the books while they read them and have them be the same. (She also included ‘Harry pocketed it’ in each subsequent book.)

I hope they produce that in German too, we already have such fantastic audio plays in Germany from the Rebecca Gablé books and it's such a fantastic experience to listen to an uncut book, produce with sound effect and different actors. In Germany they could use the original voice actors of the movies, what would be an even greater experience for German fans...
