“If a kid breaks in a school and no one around chooses to hear it do they make a sound?”
"To This Day" by Shane Koyczan is a beautiful poem that tells stories of children who grew up bullied in their school. Hogwarts is a very imperfect place and its students can relate. Trigger Warning for mentions of depression and suicidal ideation.
The more I thought about, the more I realized that the movies don't even scratch the surface of the bullying that went on at Hogwarts. Sirius literally tried to get Snape killed by a werewolf when they were in school and continued to call him "Snivellus" even as an adult. James Potter admitted to tormenting Snape just because "he exists." Marietta Edgecomb had to walk around with the word SNEAK permanently spelled out on her face in ugly pustules because of a jinx Hermione cast. Slytherins mocked Ron ruthlessly for his family's poverty and affiliation with muggle-borns. People constantly stole and hid "Loony Lovegood"s things. Even Snape made fun of Hermione for her large teeth. Neville was constantly put down by his own grandmother and was nearly killed by his Great Uncle trying to get him to do magic. Harry was often called "Potty" by Malfoy or Peeves.... A lot of bullying went down at Hogwarts.
