What a true " street performer" - Harry is so genuine EVERYONE wants to be around his positive energy... what a guru!

(As a German HipHop fan, teaching English at a school in Berlin I'd like to say) First of all yes, many people in this video were tourists. Secondly yes, there is a cultural difference. In the US, people are very outgoing when it comes to cheering, celebrating and going wooooo at other people's performances because they are taught to do so from early on - after all it'd be rude not to. It starts as early as Kindergarten. If little Mike sings a song, the teacher will tell the other children to give it up for Mike. In Germany on the other hand, the teacher will typically not encourage everybody to clap and cheer - as this might potentially cause embaressment for little Mike but rather clap a few times themselves in a - by American standards - rather reserved fashion and then ask everybody in the room in a calm but cheerful voice "Now wasn't that great?" and expect everybody to say, rather than show that they liked it. On the other hand, German audiences can be very outgoing and enthusiastic e.g. at sport events or rock concerts (If you've ever been to a footbal game in Dortmund, you know what I'm talking about), but it needs to be a "nobody is watching" or "everybody is doing it" or "I've had a few beers" situation. If I saw Harry in the streets and danced, screamed and cleebrated like most people in the US videos did and this would go on KZfaq, my colleagues and students would mock me for this. So I'd only clap and nod my head just a little...it's not about me not liking it - it's a social norm. Thirdly, I'd like to say is that the Brandenburg Gate is not really the best spot to film Guerilla Bars. Unlike to what many people think this isn't a central urban spot where people feel "at home" in their city. There is no cozy atmosphere. Berliners don't go there to hang out. It's too windy and there are no places to sit. In fact, there is not even a shopping mall or a store nearby. Harry should have gone to places like Admiralsbrücke, Wilmersdorfer Straße, Breitscheidplatz, RAW-Gelände, James-Simon Park... etc. The fourth thing I'd like to say is. Yes the average German English isn't good enough to really understand how great Hary is and what he does. The status of English in Germany is an awkward one. Linguistically speaking German as a language has almost entirely lost it's productivity. English - or sometimes pseudo English is the only source for coining new words in contemporary German and these words are integrated into German grammar in a rather funny way ("Als der Corona Lockdown kam, habe ich mich socially gedistanced.") Often, people who are able to coin new words will think that their English was rather fluent but they don't understand that they are drawing from a pool of no more than 500 English words. Harry's freestyle draws from more than 20,000 words, so no - while they are able to appreciate what Harry is doing in some way, they don't see the whole scope of his talent. The last thing I'd like to add is that sadly, the heydays of German rap are over. There's still music around that is labled Deutschrap, but it's different from what Harry does. I went to Harry's show in Berlin and I noticed that most of the non-international, German fans were 30+ or even 40+. These were people who had listened to Absoulte Beginner, Fünf Sterne, Kool Savas, Blumentopf and Dendemann in their youth....people who had the best summers of their lives at the Splash festivals from 1999-2004 and watched Mixery Raw Deluxe Freestyle Battles on VIVA 2 and Fett MTV. Back then, Harry would have filled stadiums in Germany.

I'm H Mack fan to the core....seen all his vids, been to his concerts. That first rap he did, forget the fact it was freestyle, with a bit of sound mastering could be the intro to Mack's entry in to mainstream and selling multiplatinum disks. Loads of writing-rappers came from doing freestyle - at least in traditional hip-hop. I think it's time Mack starts recording with a team of sound engineers.
