Just an observation. You are living beyond your means. Trips, furniture, renovations, Peleton bike, expensive clothes, eating out.. etc etc. It’s no wonder you are concerned about money. People who earn much more than both of you, don’t do as much. It’s not that we don’t want too, but everything in progression. You can have it all, but not all at the same time. I’m sure if you adjust your spending for 6-12 months, things will be different. You both are still young and starting life, don’t end up in massive debt when you really don’t have too. Just my two cents 😊

If you have plans to move from Ontario then move to India. Your spending habits will make you broke wherever you will go in Canada and also you behave like a tourist there. Just an observation: The aesthetic Life you’re living is definitely expensive. Trust me I’m a developer make about 250k/yr + have equity. If my partner starts spending like you I’d divorce her. On a friendly note, you might be an amazing person but I seriously think you gotta get more exposure to people who have real money troubles, like real living from paycheque to paycheque situation. There is Ikea and there is CB2, you buy a $600 pendant lamp from CB2 and a person living from PC to PC would probably get half of all their furniture at that price( from Ikea or secondhand or maybe free porch pickup even), they also want to buy that lamp from the expensive store but they simply can't. I am no one to judge you but this really gives me the vibe of "Ananya Pandey's struggle". If you wanna buy all the expensive stuff that's cool, that's your lifestyle but then you cannot complain about savings. If I have limited income and my lifestyle is such that I will only stay in Fairmont(just an example) and then if I complain to my friends that I am not saving anything, they would probably laugh at me. Interest rate issue is a global problem. When you applied for mortgage you showed your income from the full-time job you once had but weren’t planning to pursue that in the future, which means your affordability wasn’t as high as you had during your application. Then you went on to make a series of financial decisions like upgrading kitchen which actually was functional but wasn’t aesthetically pleasing for you, a new car whereas a used one could have done the job, new furniture like a bed whereas your old ikea bed could have been used for a little longer, Peleton bike during spring where you could have just chosen to go for a run, etc. The focus of this comment is not to point out the faults but to try and make you understand that the problem was self created in a way. Undoing so much of damage is complicated and entirely depends on the contracts you have for each of the debt you chose to get yourself into. Inflation is coming under control in most of the countries so the interest rates might have just reached its peak. You could consider to wait it off as the cost involved in moving is a lot higher than paying interest on this property.

This is the danger of a variable rate. You have to consider rates going up. Fixed rates are generally higher but you have the stability of it not changing for your term.

My two cents. Stay where you are and learn to budget and spent wisely ! And you will make it ! 1. Oakville is nice. And close to Toronto where the jobs are plenty as compared to other places. 2. Weather in GTA is definitely better as compared to Calgary. 3. You won’t make a lot of money from selling the house considering the market and selling costs. There is a line between splurging and living your life. Try to find a balance. Lastly, it doesn’t come across nice to your audience complaining about money where you live in a great neighborhood, buy super expensive stuff.

My suggest is plan a 2 weeks visit in Calgary first to get a feeling if it is the right place for you before moving to. I heard many stories of regrets from people who move from Ontario to Alberta. With this being said, Alberta is a beautiful place, many mountains, lake and place to visit.

Hey Pooja, I'm actually from the Caribbean (the tropics) and I migrated last year with my husband. We did research and realise ontario was too expensive so we came to Calgary. I was just as skeptical as you in terms of weather and things to do., but boy was I wrong! Calgary is beautiful and clean and way cheaper! There are tons to do! The weather gets pretty intense sometimes but it doesn't last long and the chinooks help alot! Also, Calgary is the sunniest city in Canada so you would love that! We are surrounded by mountains and nature! Banff is not far away as well. Trust me, you won't regret it. It is cheaper here and you get bigger and more beautiful houses here for half the price you paid in Toronto. You could at least visit first and explore and then decide if it's for you! Ps. Such a relatable video! My fiancé and I in October moved to USA, we both lived in Etobicoke! Being in our 30s and wanting to start a family it was becoming so unattainable to buy a house and save money in GTA! Also for whatever reason we found that our employers were not paying enough according to the inflation going on it was staying pretty stagnent! We are now in New York State and living way more comfortably and we are also saving money! Sometimes a big change is needed to get what you want out of life!

We moved from ontario to calgary in 2021, honestly we like peaceful life ,have a son so its perfect to raise a family. Calgary is a slow city,not as happening as toronto but one get use to it slowly and gradually, it totally depends on ur priorirty, calgary is beautiful indeed. Canada it resets every 5 years and date will be even higher.. best thing to do is that side second job or just sell and rent ..

The Trudeau government has destroyed nice Canada. Next year i am selling everything and moving back to my birth country. Cost of living is 1/3 that of Canada and the coldest it gets is 15 degrees. Moving to Calgary May not solve all of your problems. Or in other words might solve one problem and arise two new problems. You should considering selling your current place and buy a place in oshwa or Hamilton with basement. Rent the basement to cover some part of mortgage.

I am sorry but I have to be honest! You have a big house in Oakville! Maybe move to a smaller one - it is just you two right now- maybe a smaller condo or even a house is enough. You can buy second hand furniture and could do fasting to loose weight and save money at the same time! Hey Pooja, I know a lot of people are worried about this whole inflation and interest rates thing that's going on everywhere. But don't base your long-term decisions on this. It's not gonna stay crazy high forever. Right now, it looks like interest rates in Canada are gonna hit their peak in about six months or so. And there might just be one more rate hike of around 0.25% before they start coming down. In about two-two and a half years, they should settle back down to around 3.5% or so. And your mortgage payments will become easier to handle by then. ( I work in investments so that you know I am not pulling this from thin air 🙂). Thought you'd feel better knowing all this.

That's is the problem with variable rate. You can talk to your bank to blend and extend your will lock in at higher interest rate and extend your mortgage.

I lived in Calgary, it’s a beautiful place to live. The snow is extreme but it comes with the sun. Also, you get chinooks which are warm sunny days that randomly pop up in the winter. Calgary has a better standard of living, people have better houses, cars, and eat out more. There are good restaurants.

Selling the house might be a tedious and enervating affair. Before making a final decision to move out, you can consider getting a second job or finding any other way to create an additional stream of income in the short run. Also, you could try and make some lifestyle changes and curb your spending at least for a short while - a year or 2 until the recession passes. It is true that you will not get to live life the way you want, but nevertheless, it would be a sacrifice that you should make for a short while so that it leads to a better future. Now, from what I've seen from your vlogs, I would say that there has been amazing progress in terms of experiences, and lifestyle. Nonetheless, these are dire circumstances, the recession may pass soon but what's to say there won't be another hit to the economy because of all the geopolitical tensions around the world. Consider moving to Ottawa. We recently moved from Toronto to Ottawa, and we are loving it here. We actually like the summers better here. Also, the winters are not that bad-just a tad bit colder than Toronto, but nothing major. My husband and I are both working professionals (in the same age group as you, with no kids) and had absolutely no issues getting jobs here. In fact, finding a job in Ottawa was much quicker due to less competition. Toronto is simply overcrowded because it's a hot destination for immigrants.

Winter was so mild in Calgary compared to three winters I have experienced in Montreal with the exception of one week in Dec and one in Feb. In Jan there was no snow with grass visible and I was wearing half sweater outside as it was warm due to chinook. Also +5 of Toronto will be same as -5 to -10 of Calgary due to dry weather ( less moisture). Calgary is under rated if you ask me. We moved from Montreal last year to Calgary and it was the best decision ( if you have a job here). Job opportunities are less but people are also less and IT scene has grown over the past 2-3 years with big names like Accenture and some fintech companies as well. Don't just go by what you hear online as most people are still talking about Calgary of 2017/2018 or earlier. I just spoke to a friend who is moving from Ontario and he scored a job in IT (City of Calgary govt job) job in 2 weeks, so I don't believe when people say there are no IT jobs, there are but you need to see if they are in your field of interest and if you have enough experience to meet the posted jobs criteria.

I sold the bith houses. And moved ti totomto and got a condo again. I am saving money now and enjoying ky life. And sending all that money back home. And travel around the world. Enjoy lixuary. And made a huge properties in india. Dont ever buy your own house in canada.

Talk to your bank and see if you can switch to a fixed rate? My sister switched her variable to a fixed recently. When you get a variable rate you need to be prepared to pay more if rates go up. That’s a gamble you take.

A suggestion. Ur lower floor where ur study is u can rent it out as a one bedroom and cover all ur extra expenses. U two can keep the upper portion to ur self. U can put a door to close up the upper level.

I just watch your this video, i really liked your videos. I also live in Oakville and my advise is dont sell your house. There is a big possibility interest rate going to decrease this year and 1 percent for sure in 2024. So first option is stay here . Option 2 : Rent out oakville and you urself go on rent somwhere else. The benefit is you will keep your house in oakville which will have an excellent price gain while you go to waterloo on rent and whatever rent you get from oakville house you can get half of rent in two bedroom appartment for only 3 years until rate down and prices up and then you come back. Never ever sell your oakville house if you do thsi you will never ever able to buy this. Like many others in the comment section, cut down on the freaking expenses that you do on a daily basis and you would easily save a lot. Rather than spending so much in creating a aesthetic gym you could have joined a real gym and yes give this out on rent or airbnb.

Last year, I stayed 3 months in Delhi, 2 months in Calgary and I live full time in Toronto. Truth is, best quality of life is in India and it is getting better. The quality of immigration in Canada is getting worse and things are going to get much worse before they get better. The BOC and the US Fed want to increase unemployment first and then cut interest rates sometime in 2024. So, to rank 1) Delhi 2) Toronto 3) Calgary - cheap houses, but it's ideal when you are 45 years old and just want to chill with family. Apart from the house, everything else is more expensive- food, insurance, weather, parking etc.. Delhi and Toronto have much better job opportunities and frankly Delhi just has more quality competition. So I would suggest to probably find a nice rental place (and sell home) or go through the high inflation storm of 2 years in Toronto. Canada will follow the US on rates, and the US will use a hop on policy i.e. rate increase every second meeting going forward (june- no hike, next meeting increase due to new employment and inflation numbers)

Please don't expect the interest rate to come down any time soon. discuss with your mortgage broker and make a wise decision. Your amortization might have extended like anything with nothing much going into principal. Also, consider selling your house (the spring market had a dead cat bounce and was a good opportunity to sell). Canada is overdebted and money is concentrated only on one asset class (real estate) and no investment in the real economy. Wages have stagnated and quality of life is degrading quickly. Unfortunately, a deep recession would be unavoidable. I would recommend you to learn what's happening in the macro economy and Twitter is a great place to follow.

You will never like it in Calgary special moving from Ontario.Think of affordable cities in Ontario like Kitchener-waterloo- Cambridge or London and the list is long. I am a realtor myself and have clients move to Calgary from Ontario and then came back cz of dull life and nothing to do. I know people in Calgary will say it’s the best cz they either never lived in a big cities and let me tell you Ontario has huge population and great opportunities for anything you can think of where as Calgary is just equivalent to Brampton & Mississauga and its over.There are many ways to get from this situation but moving out of the province is not the best. If possible switch you mortgage to 3 yrs fixed with rates around 4.6% and many more options. Let me know if you need to browse more options.

Sure ..its a sliding scale ..my vehicles are parked off..and I don't drink coffee anymore ..so I can afford to still feed my dogs well .We have rich people in Greyton called Swallows ..when the bad seasons come ..they just fly overseas and continue to enjoy summer .It will be tragic if they had to endure winter here like most locals do every year .. especially with load shedding and gas shortages etc ..they might actually suffer a cold if wood runs short too .Migrate permanently?

I commend you courage to speak up about this. You should move away from making life style videos (expensive) to doing other creative videos which can be less of an upfront investment. Rent out a part of your house for a year to get some income, and then prepare for the future, Selling the house now will prove to be more expensive in a cooling market.

When you posted about “expenses in Canada”, I’m the one who posted a comment like an essay. But to be frank with you , I feel like it’s a good decision. Not just Calgary it self. Consider about the new developments in Alberta like high speed train project etc and see what are the new communities coming up. In couple of years, those cities will be developed. Plus yea Canada has become so expensive :( . 100% agree with the fact you said it’s not about not eating out or not having fun. We need it for our lives. Ride out 2 years...stop listening to realtors. It will get much worse but interest rate will likely not rise. Don't sell and buy now unless you are clearing +ve equity after realtor fee. Also factor in time cost of moving, moving cost, relocation cost etc. those add up.

I would say maybe find a part time job or find a professional job during the day, that you are qualified to work in depending on your education. Then try to figure out a way to balance your daytime job with YT. I think that could really work well. I know many YT do it full time but they do also have hundreds of thousands or millions of followers and other forms of Social media, such as Instagram and TikTok that make their earnings quite high to be able to focus just on YT full time. Also, you are only making about one video a week vs pumping out content three times a week, so finding a part/full time job during the day should be manageable.

I started watching your channel before i moved to Canada and Ontario was a NO for me. I am not into big cities so that was the main reason so you may find Calgary laid back. I love winters here, no matter the temps most days are always SUNNY. I will take sun during winter anytime! I love Calgary, periodT 😊 Consider visiting first before you make that big change.

Calgary is not your place, as much as I know you through videos. We have our friends moving from Calgary last year because the life was really slow there.Also, try moving to Barrie, Kitchener,Hamilton. Much better places. Also, it was your decision to buy a big house but you guys are just 2, so could have gone for a beautiful condo. Try not cutting expenses but try not overspending. We did that. Calgary just is cheaper that’s all. Life is pretty slow there. Leave it on your fate, don’t worry. Things will get better!

I moved from toronto to calgary and its realy a lovely city… good downtown… cheap houses, closer to mountains, even the weather is not much bad… only one week of hard winter.. less traffic beautiful summer… you will make less money still save more

Based on your lifestyle, I can easily see you enjoying life in Dubai (It is close to India and you are 1 flight away from almost any country in the world). I am assuming you are already in the process of getting your Canadian Citizenship, take the passport and enjoy your life elsewhere (tax free)🤩 We only live once, let it be in a sunny, fun and joyful country with the benefits of being officially a Canadian.

If someone says that Calgary has harsher weather than Ontario and says has nothing to do in Calgary- they literally live under the rock! And this is coming from someone who lived in New York City for 6 years 🙂 Calgary has sunshine ☀️ for 340 days and the most beautiful national parks such as Banff within an hour. Its not windy as well. We moved last year here from Toronto and it was the best decision we took! We bought our dream house here recently as well! Calgary is way more livable and beautiful than Toronto! Hope you guys make a move to Calgary… I bet you you guys will love it!

Its every expensive everywhere in Canada right now regardless of whether you are in Ontario or Alberta. I live in Calgary. Just a heads up finding a good paying job in Calgary won't be easy. So even though your expenses might go down a bit most probably your income will take a hit too. I have over 10 years of overseas experience in Oil and Gas but yet have struggle to find a job. On top of that rental has increased significantly as well compared to a year or two ago. I am sure you will consider all the pros and cons before moving.

You have to control your spending dear. Expensive taste comes with expensive prices. You should move to Dubai if want a lifestyle to live. Please do not move to boring Calgary.

Kawartha lakes Lindsay Peterborough Omemee are still great areas. Close to major cities and nature. You can still buy around the 500ks have a backyard more space with less taxes and mortgage rate.

Pooja inflation is everywhere , but saranj already has a job here. So it is not a wise decison to move on from a city like Ontario. Same happens in UAE , eventhough dubai is more expensive than others emirates people who are living in dubai just don't want to move to other emirates for the lifestyle it offers. So try to increase your income if possible and eventually you can overcome this inflation.

Yes interest rate are hiking and we are all worried but before you blame the country curb your spending habits , you returned boxes full of clothes at different stores before making India trip that really showed how you guys were trying to balance the air ticket purchase by taking refund from clothes . You cannot live here king size as there is no division of labour , you work hard for your money here and spend with a ‘need’ and ‘want’ formula, no where in Canada is right now cheap anymore even the rural areas as inflation has affected every nook and corner

I think the biggest reason for the current situation of first time home buyers is bank of Canada's inability to react faster. All incorrect signals and signs in the last 3 years. The current generation is literally screwed, by the BOC and the govt. Half of the salary is taken by the former and the other half by the latter

I moved from Saskatchewan to Ontario and I made a right choice. I know ontario is definitely expensive but there’s no life that part of the Canada. It was extremely depressed over there.
