Harsh Reality of Phuket Without Tourists | Phuket Sandbox Programme Part 3

In this Thailand Vlog, we explore Phuket on our own after leaving the group. Whist on the sandbox programme, we had to get another covid test before we were able to move hotels. This time we go to the Crest resort to a beautiful pool villa with incredible views. It's the first time we got to try the instagramable floating breakfast and test out its practicality. We were able to rent a bike to explore the island, going to Karon beach, Karon viewpoint and Promthep Cape. We then headed to Patong beach where we saw the unfortunate reality of the effect Covid has had on the Thai people. A once thriving area has had to shut down. For an island that relies so heavily on tourism, we hope that the sandbox program is a success for the Thai people and we get back to normality soon.

You paid £83 for a suite with an ocean view and an infinity pool. I paid £114 for a Travelodge in Clacton. I miss travelling outside the UK is what I’m saying 😂

Don't forget to tip them. It's a big part of their wages. They work all hours and go home to shacks, that is why hotels etc are so cheap. They are very nice people and deserve better.

I paid £470.00 for return flights with Finnair and 2 weeks in a beach front hotel (Orchid Hotel Kalim Bay Phuket) with transfers and insurance. Hope to retire to Thailand in 2037 more for my money.

my wife and i did the phuket sandbox. i enjoyed it actually. it was peacful quiet and relaxing went a little surfing, snorkled, went on a boat to coral beach and ate the local cuisine shopped a little in downtown Phuket. After I went to the Thailand mainland and visited my wifes family and traveled around Thailand for a few weeks. It was really beautiful and had an amazing experience as an American from Los Angeles.

I love love the hotels in Thailand, beautiful, tranquil, inexpensive and usually delicious food in the restaurants and fantastic service. I live in Ao Nang and it’s so sad and depressing to see 3/4 of the hotels , restaurants and businesses closed.

This is absolutely devastating, we went to patong 3 years ago for our silver wedding anniversary and had the most amazing holiday ever, the sights, sounds, food and especially the people made it unforgettable. But seeing it now is so upsetting, I fear for the small islands too like phi phi that have no other income other than tourism. 😪😪

I'm so happy I stumbled on your videos. My wife and I are about to head to Phuket for our Honeymoon. While it's sad the current situation, we are really looking forward to the emptiness for a personal feeling holiday. We don't need the party and hustle/bustle. We almost chose The Crest, but instead chose a different pool villa location. I hope we can help someone (at least one family) with our visit by paying for anything we can and keep them going. It's a great time come here, quiet roads and beaches and so much is open. Bars are shut hence Bangladesh is dead, other areas especially around the beach are still lively. Great video. Nice Hotel. Will have to check that out on my next visit. I have put in for my Visa, want to try and take advantage of the low crowds for once. It is so sad to see Thailand like this. The world economy is in rapid decline, a stock market crash is looming, failed crops because of extreme weather conditions are going to cause food shortages. Things will never return to the way they were, so you'll be waiting a very long time my friend...

Not so long, but the key point is that they have to open not only the borders but also shops, restaurants, pubs, and so on. Why I should go in a place so far for have more restrictions than at home? Hope anycase things will improve as soon as possible.

Never thought of travelling to phuket before but after seeing this it looks amazing. As a UK business owner I feel the pain that all the shops, bars and businesses are experiencing. Have you noticed? The shops and vendors that are still open. Are much much more appreciative of their customers. I see them providing their services with a smile. Before COVID-19 when times were easy. Many of the shop owners and the vendors. I will repeat, Many not all would smile only while they were concocting their next opportunity to rip off the tourists. Making a bad name for Phuket and Thailand as a whole. I’m glad to see that the good people are still working and still smiling for the right reasons.

People won’t do a sandbox because of the extreme amounts of specific requirements needed before entering the country, it’s not worth it, tourism won’t work unless they properly re open

As in August there was no domestic flights to Phuket, so it really hard for everyone to go there, just tourists from Sandbox project and remark that in August is low season, I hope in September when there will have domestic flight from Bangkok, there will be more people to visit there again.

No you won't ever visit, and no it won't get better soon. Would you even like to visit a ghost town? Do you think suddenly all the bankrupt and closed shops will suddenly re-open for you? They are closed for good, and it will only get worse until people wake up and realize this is not about public health or a virus. It's about control and forcing change upon people, a change they would otherwise reject if it wasn't for a "deadly pandemic" they have been taught to fear after 18 months of fear propaganda in the media.

I loved that you did this. We spent our Honeymoon 2018 in Thailand. North, Krabi Koh Tao and Bangkok. Now that it will be opening again we´ve opted to return this December. First Phuket then some islands and ending the year in Bangkok. We love the Thai people and hurt with them. I hope it willbe better in a few months and things pick up and stay clean.

May I ask if you guys know what are the requirements travelling from BKK to Phuket? Like do I really need the PCR test or Antigen test?

Sadly there are over a million cases of covid19 in Thailand and the daily death toll is horrific, add to that that the real numbers are probably much higher it is a country in a lot of trouble. Phuket itself was until recently under a hard lockdown where you could not go out on the street between 9 pm and 6 am, to do so was a jailable offence. The loss of tourism has meant that millions of people are out of work, many have lost their businesses and homes. There are food lines daily not only in Phuket but in many (but not enough) provinces. Unfortunately that is the current state of Phuket and much of Thailand - and it is so SO sad.

I was in Phuket with my family and family friends from August 1st to 8th, we had a great time, the hotel was great, we went to the spa almost every night, we went on the coral island tour , we got to do zip lining and ride the ATV’s , we even visited the tiger kingdom and rented the scooters and rode them around Patong beach road , we did get a lot of clothes , and food from the grocery store and had a lot of bobba, we also got to do some street shopping, and try really good street food. It was a fun experience, I would love to visit again but after covid there has been taken care of, and we wouldn’t need a PCR test, that was the worst part of the trip, but over all I would say that it’s more enjoyable when more things are open.

was planning to visit Thailand at the end of the year but we do not qualify for the sandbox program and 14 days of quarantine is just non starter. I guess your video is the closest I will get to Phuket

that looks so much like fun. when they swab me they do it so hard they gave me bloody nose. i was so pissed!!. and that was here in the states. but i would love to come there and see all what you have seen. thank you for the video. One day if you come back to the states i will personally show you the north central and north west of the U.S. Mt Rushmore, Bad Lands, Devils Tower, Yellow Stone, Grand Tetons, Glacier national park, Mt Hood, Lassen, Yosemite, and then the coast itself!!,.... so so much fun and best of all Crater Lake so so awesome. take care be careful and happy travels thanks for sharing.
